26、I’m a real book lover. Every time my friends visit me, my nose is buried in a book. Wherever I go, I always have a book with me. Novels, history books, stories about people, journals and news—I read them all and I’ve learnt a lot, too. For example, many things in life happen for the best even if we don’t like or understand them.
Why is reading such an enjoyable pastime for me? I probably first learned about it from my parents. My mother read to me at night in my childhood and bought me picture books. The greatest gift she has given me is a love for reading. And it will be a life-long habit.
No one ever asked me why I liked to read. They just saw me and asked, “Oh? Is that for school work?” And I just shook my head, “No. It’s just for fun.” While reading a good book, I can totally forget myself and fly to another world. It’s like exploring through someone’s eyes, which is just as exciting as watching a movie.
Reading is also necessary in order to learn about writing, to improve my use of words and phrases and broaden my knowledge. What a pity to see our imagination disappear, for we don’t exercise it often. Reading can even be good for one’s health, I think. Everyone should read sad stories that make us cry and also books with humor that make us laugh out loud!
【1】Among the gifts my parents have given me, which is the most valuable one?
A.A love for reading.
B.Picture books.
C.Good health.
D.A lovable pastime.
【2】In the fourth paragraph, the author thinks reading can ____.
A.make his parents happy
B.finish his school work

D.help him understand some movies
【3】If we don’t use our imagination often, ____.
A.it is bad for our health
B.we will soon learn how to write
C.it will help us to have a good rest
D.it will soon disappear
【4】What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.Why do I have few friends?
B.What are my life habits?
C.Why do I love reading?
D.Why do things happen for the best?
27、 The American self-image is spread with the golden glow of opportunity. We think of the United States as a land of unlimited possibility, not so much a classless society but as a place where class is changeable. However, we are not who we think we are.
The Economic Mobility Project, an ambitious research led by Pew Charitable Trusts, looked at the economic fortunes of a large group of families over time, comparing the income of parents in the late 1960s with the income of their children in the late 1990s and early 2010s. Here is the finding: The "rags to riches" story is much more common in Hollywood than on Main Street. Only 6 percent of children born to parents with family income at the very bottom move to the top. Meanwhile, an incredible 42 percent of children born into that lowest are still stuck at the bottom, having been unable to climb a single rung (梯级) of the income ladder.
It is noted that even in Britain -- a nation we think of as burdened with a hidebound(顽固的,死板的) class system--children who are born poor have a better chance of moving up. When the studies were released, most reporters focused on the finding that African-Americans born to middle-class or upper middle-class families are earning slightly less, in inflation-adjusted(扣除通胀后的) dollars, than did their parents.
One of the studies indicates, in fact, that most of the financial gains white families have made in the past three decades can be attributed to(归功于) the entry of white women into the labor force. This is much less true for African-Americans.
According to one of the studies, the rich have seen far greater income gains than have the poor. Even more troubling is that our nation of America as the land of opportunity gets little support from the data. Americans move fairly easily up and down the middle rungs(横档) of the ladder, but there is "stickiness at the ends" -- four out of ten children who are born poor will remain poor, and four out of ten who are born rich will stay rich.
【1】What did the Economic Mobility Project find in its research?
A.Children from low-income families are unable to move up to the top.
B.Hollywood actors and actresses can get rich easily.
C.The rags to riches story is more fiction than reality.
D.The rags to riches story is only true for a small minority of whites.
【2】According to the passage, the author probably agrees that America should____.
A.perfect its self-image as a land of opportunity
B.have a lower level of upward mobility than Britain
C.enable African-Americans to earn more than whites
D.encourage the current generation to work harder than their parents
【3】Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A.The US is a land where brains, energy and ambition are what count
B.Inequality remains between whites and blacks in financial gains.
C.Middle-class families earn slightly less with inflation considered.
D.Children in lowest-income families manage to climb a single rung of the ladder.
【4】What might be the best title for this passage?
A.Social Upward Mobility. B.Incredible Income Gains.
C.Inequality in Wealth. D.America Not Land of Opportunity
28、 The day was une10th, 2010. Having been searching for a cat as a companion, we received a kitty.
As soon as I saw him, it was love at the first sight. His little eyes were almost shut, and the vets believed he couldn't be more than just five weeks of age. So, within 24 hours, he was already affectionately named, Tiny.
Tiny was a little scamp, cheeky, strong-willed and energetic. He quickly settled into our household and would sleep in bed next to me every night. He gradually grew into the most beautiful but naughty little cat and was adored by everyone who met him even if they claimed to not be too fond of cats, let alone me. We were so close and adored each other's company. If I went away for a night, I would always get someone to come and stay in the house to look after him and he would become depressed at even the sight of a suitcase. A three-week photography trip to Malaysia made him most upset, as despite being at home with my partner, he moped around the house and would shout at the laptop whenever I called via Skype.
As the years went by, the bond between us became ever closer up until I had the worst phone call of my life so far. I was told that he was not in a good way. I rushed down the road to the address given to me. On arrival, they thought he was no longer with us after a car accident, until I spoke to him and he immediately started calling. I carried him home talking to him all the way, and he the same. Heartbreakingly, my beautiful little boy expired in my arms on October 4th 2018-World Animal Day (click here for more).
Not a day goes past when he isn't missed, and his antics and beauty recalled with great affection. Members of the family can be replaced but they will never be forgotten. We are so blessed to be able to share our lives with so many beautiful creatures, both in the wild and in our own homes and it is up to us to both protect and nurse them.
【1】Why did the author name the cat Tiny?

D. The cat was very young when the author first saw him.
【2】The underlined word can be best replaced by_______________.

A. The cat was liked by everyone except the author.
B. The cat didn't get along with the author's family.

【4】Where does the text probably from?
A. An official document about cats.
B. A guide book on how to adopt a cat.
C. A web page about World Animal Day.
D. A science report on animal protection.
29、Coffee is an important part of Italian culture and since arriving here over six months ago, I have drunk a lot of it!
Of course, coffee is also very popular in the UK but coffee culture in Italy is a completely different story. In Italy, when you order a coffee in a café or bar ( 酒吧), you are served with a tiny, bitter espresso. This is“normal (正常的) coffee” for Italians and they are not so interested in the huge coffees that we drink in the UK. If you want more than one sip (小口) of coffee in Italy, lungo is a good choice. It is espresso with a little more water added, but still served in a small cup. In addition, while takeaway coffee is quite popular among Brits, it is not very common at all in Italy, especially in non-touristy areas. Generally, Italians prefer to drink their tiny coffees while standing at the bar and, for many, this short break is an important part of their day.
Usually, breakfast in a bar in Italy includes a coffee and a pastry (酥皮糕点). I have been spoiled for choice with lovely cafés in the Italian town I'm living in. These cafés sell different kinds of mouth-watering pastries - either plain (无馅料的) or filled with cream, chocolate, etc - as well as delicious coffee. Cappuccinos are very popular at breakfast time and, for me, a creamy cappuccino and a pastry with chocolate is the perfect way to start the day.
Finally, I have found that coffee in Italy is so much cheaper than coffee in the UK. Normally, an espresso or a macchiato (an espresso with a drop of milk) costs around a euro and a cappuccino about €1.50! They are small, of course, but this means that in Italy it is possible to go out for coffee every day without breaking the bank.
【1】How is Paragraph 2 mainly developed?
A.By time.
B.By space.
C.By example.
D.By comparison.
【2】Which coffee will you get in Italy if you order one without special instructions?
A.Espresso.
B.Lungo.
C.Cappuccino.

【3】What can we learn about the coffee culture in Italy?
A.Takeaway coffee is very popular among Italians.
B.Italians are very often seen drinking huge coffees.
C.Italians like to take short breaks from work for coffee.
D.Coffees are often served along with pastries during breakfasts.
【4】What does the author think of Italian coffee?
A.She loves its bitter taste.
B.It is too expensive for her.
C.It is a good choice for breakfast.
D.The cup it is served in is too small.

Has the quality of our lives at work, at home and in our communities increased in direct proportion to all the new Internet and business-to-business Internet services being introduced into our lives? 40、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As a language arts teacher, I think it my duty to teach my kids how to use our tools of words well. Use your tool right—this is what I always tell them. But I never expected to learn that lesson from them.
I clearly remembered it was my 40th birthday. On that day, my sixth-grade students were seated in a large circle, each holding a different tool in their hand—a hammer, a flashlight, a screwdriver, etc. The students discussed how words are like tools—they have the ability to build or to destroy, and they discovered how the right tool used at the right time for the right job can bring about great results. They freely shared personal stories of how they had experienced someone’s words used as a tool, to wound or to heal.
I watched and listened with a sense of satisfaction—the students were engaged, attentive, and enjoying the lesson. They got it! It was one of those times when I sat back and enjoyed the magic of being a teacher—to have the opportunity to watch young people discover a greater truth about life about each other, and about themselves. There was no better gift than that.
As we neared the end of that school day, one of my students, Laura, had an unexpected outburst of defiance(违抗) in class. Busy scribbling (涂画) in her exercise book, she refused to work with her group. I was aware from reading Laura's file that she had struggled with defiant behavior in previous years, but we had developed a good relationship and she was always a respectful, thoughtful, and positive contributor to our class. Her behavior caught me off guard. “I'm disappointed in you!" With a sharp tone, I asked her to excuse herself and told her I would visit with her in our next-door meeting room after school. She refused to leave and sat silently, staring at me angrily from the back of the room.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“This was NOT optional," I firmly told her, sounding unpleasantly bitter.

But the meeting room rang with her response “You're using your tool against me!”
