26、 Most of us might only begin to think about dinner in the late afternoon: What should I make today? But Jelena Petrovic begins to think about her big meal early each morning. After morning tea, she and her husband, Milan, begin their plans for a traditional Serbian dish. The cooking method they use probably comes from Jelena’s mother or grandmother. Each recipe uses local foods found in Serbian markets.
Milan goes to the market to get the food they need. And the 69-year-old Jelena makes plans for how she will explain the cooking process to her 150,000 followers on YouTube. Once she is ready, Jelena films her cooking show from a small kitchen table. Milan holds the camera.

27、 Each one of us has a set of goals. We work to reach them every day. But the wise should set goals they feel are achievable, a new study shows, as our belief of the goals has a large impact on our life satisfaction later on- whether we achieve said goals or not.
The team examined how life goals affect people's happiness and well-being throughout adulthood. One of the key findings of the study is that people who perceive(将……视作) )their goals as being attainable(可达到的) were overall reported higher affective well-being in the follow-up surveys. The authors take this as an indication that it's the feeling of control over one's life that contributes to these positive feelings.
Our needs also change over time, so the team also looked into how age impacts the choice of goals. Younger participants, for example, rated personal growth, social status, social relationships, and professional advancement as important. Older participants rated social engagement and health as being more important. However, this change in priorities (优先)wasn't sudden -we don't drop personal growth in favor of health the second we turn 40, for example. It happened gradually.
It's important to find which goals work for you. But always try to keep them attainable, or break down big goals into a series of smaller ones. Even if you don't reach them, you'll probably be happier later on.
【1】When it comes to goals, what do the wise tend to do?
A. Try hard to work towards goals. B. Set themselves attainable goals.
C. Set different goals from the rest. D. Satisfy themselves with professional goals
【2】Which is the finding of the study?
A. Achieving goals leads to positive feelings.

D. People who can control over their life will achieve most goals.
【3】Which goal are older people more likely to value?
A. Health. B. Social status.
C. Personal growth. D. Professional advancement
【4】Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Setting as many goals as possible. B. Breaking every goal down.
C. Sparing no effort to reach goals. D. Setting suitable and achievable goals.
28、When you buy fresh-cut flowers, do you think about where they came from? You might think they were grown somewhere nearby. The reality, though, is that the cut flower trade is increasingly International. Today, thanks to airplanes and high-tech cooling systems, even the most delicate flower be exported and sold thousands of kilometers away from where it was grown.
The Netherlands handles about 60 percent of the world’s cut flowers. And its auction houses(拍卖行)are very large---Aalsmeer, near Amsterdam, is auction house in the sense that Tokyo is a city, or Everest a mountain. About 120 soccer fields would fill its main building. Nineteen million flowers are sold here on an average day.
The Netherlands is also a world leader in developing new flower varieties. Dutch companies and the government invest a great amount of money in flower research. Their scientists look for ways to lengthen a flower’s vase life, to strengthen flowers to prevent them from being damaged while traveling, and also to strengthen the natural fragrance of the flowers.
There are also many other places with a better climate for growing flowers, and the climate of Ecuador is almost perfect. With predictable rainy periods and 12 hours of sunlight each day, Ecuador’s roses are famous for their large heads and long, straight stems(茎). Every year, Ecuador sells about 500 million flowers to the U.S. alone. The industry has brought employment opportunities and a stronger economy to the country. “My family has TV now. There are radios.” says Yolanda Quishpe, 20, who picked roses for four years.
To others, the increasingly international nature of the flower trade is very bad news. In recent years local growers in the U.S. faced huge competition from international flower companies, and many lost their businesses. Lina Hale, an independent rose grower said her father had predicted the situation in the 1980s. “I see a train coming down the track,” he warned her, “and it’s coming straight towards us.”

B.It’s as big as Tokyo.

A.How to increase flower production.
B.How to avoid climate’s effect on flowers.

D.How to keep flowers fresh during transportation.
【3】What does the author want to show through Yolanda Quishpe’s words?
A.Flowers from Ecuador are beautiful.
B.Ecuador could grow even more flowers.
C.The flower trade in Ecuador benefits the local.
D.Rose-picking is a very popular job in Ecuador.

29、 After hours of delays, one New York-bound passenger thought that he was getting the private plane treatment when he boarded his flight and realized he was the only passenger.
The passenger, a Brooklyn-based man named Chris O’Leary, started talking about his amazement before the plane took off. “It was definitely the most memorable flight I’ve been on in recent memory. There were no screaming babies, or reclining(使后仰) their seats.”
Although it seemed like he was getting to fly home alone, the plane ended up going back to the gate one to pick up a second passenger. “He took advantage of the fact that the flight was empty and reclined his seat all the way and slept,” O’Leary said of the second passenger.
It isn’t clear how many people were originally scheduled to be on board the 76-seater regional plane, but according to O’Leary, he was the only who was not rebooked on an earlier flight after they faced a number of delays. O’Leary was actually scheduled on a 7:15 a.m. flight out of Cleveland but when that flight got cancelled, he was re-booked on this flight, which was scheduled to take off at 9:39 a.m. The flight was delayed for hours, and since O’Leary learned of the delays by phone notices, he stayed in his hotel until shortly before the flight was actually due to take off. When he arrived at the airport, he heard his name being announced on the loud speaker and he was informed that everyone else had been rebooked on earlier flights because of the delay.
A Delta Airlines spokesman confirmed that there were two passengers on board. Often times when planes fly with a small number of passengers it’s because the plane itself is needed in the destination city for a later flight.

Super Size Me
Fast food, otherwise known as junk food, is a huge passion for a large number of people across the Western world. But what would happen if you ate lots of junk food, every day? Would it seriously damage your health? These were the questions which led Morgan Spurlock, an independent film-maker, to do an experiment, which he made into a documentary film entitled Super Size Mc.
The main basis of his experiment was that Spurlock promised to cat three McDonald’s meals a day, every day, for a month. He could only eat food from McDonald’s and every time an employee asked if he would like to “super size” the meal, he had to agree. “Super sizing” refers in to fact that with this type of meal you get a considerable larger portion of everything.
Spurlock knew that by eating three McDonald’s meals a day, he would consume a lot of fat and great deal of salt and sugar in each meal - much more than he needed. Although Spurlock knew he would put on a bit of weight, and that this diet was unhealthy, he wasn’t quite prepared for just how unhealthy it turned out to be. The changes in this body were horrifying in the first week, he put on 4.5 kilos and by the end of the thirty days he had gained nearly 14 kilos, bringing his total weight to a massive 98kg.
Spurlock says “I’d love people to walk out of the movie and say, ‘Next time I’m not going to “super size”. Maybe I’m not going have any junk food at all. I’m going to sit down and eat dinner with my kids, with the TV off, so that we can eat healthy food, talk about what we’re eating and have a relationship with each other.” Food for though indeed.
