二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   Parents in the U.S. are claiming the popular children’s TV show Peppa Pig has caused their kids to start speaking in a British accent. The cartoon follows the life of a pig, Peppa, and her family as they go about their day-to-day life in a fictional U. K. town made up of various animal families.

And now parents of children who love the show are noticing that Peppa’s southern British accent and vocabulary seem to be rubbing off on those watching the show. One parent wrote online: “My 4-year baby girl loves watching Peppa Pig and I have noticed her accent and grammar is extraordinary. I’d like to thank Peppa Pig for the slight yet adorable British accent my toddler (幼儿) is acquiring.” added by another parent. A third parent wrote: “The most entertaining aspect of my life right now is that my toddler now speaks with a British accent.”

Writer Janet Manley called it the “Peppa effect”. Janet revealed that immediately after her daughter’s first time watching the show two years ago, she started calling her “mummy”. Her daughter also began snorting at the end of her sentences, just like the cartoon pig. And the “Peppa effect” isn’t anything new. Parents have been discussing about it for a number of years. Since the show first aired, there have been a total of 241 episodes created as the show surged in popularity.

1What’s the background of the cartoon?

    A. A made-up U.K. town. B. A traditional U.K. town.

    C. An ancient U.K. town. D. A fictional U.K. city.

2What’s the most obvious influence of Peppa Pig on kids according to some parents?

    A. Dressing preference. B. Diet preference.

    C. Emotions. D. Accent.

3What’s the attitude of parents toward the show?

    A. Critical. B. Doubtful.

    C. Positive. D. Indifference.

4Which of the following is true according to the passage?

    A. Peppa Pig is a popular U. S. cartoon.

    B. Peppa Pig is popular with children of all ages.

    C. Children who love the show are influenced in every aspect of their life.

    D. Parents have been concerned with the ‘Peppa effect’ for a long time.

  • 27、In recent times, vegetarianism has become more popular, but it is still not the best option for many. If you may be thinking about removing meat from your diet but do not want to go completely meat-free, perhaps try going meat-free for just one day a week.

Sharon Palmer, a registered dietitian and author of Plant Powered for Life, discusses how “research consistently shows that plant-based diets are linked with a lower risk of obesity, hypertension, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer”.

She says, “Even going meatless one day a week can make a difference, as you increase all of those whole plant foods-beans, wholegrains, nuts, seeds, vegetables, fruits-and decrease more animal foods, in particular red and processed meat. A high intake of these foods has been linked with increased disease risk.”

Deciding to have a more plant-based diet also increases your intake of fiber, vitamins, healthy fats and minerals. To help to do this, stocking your fridge with a variety of beans, seasonable veggies, wholegrains, herbs, nuts and seeds is Palmer’s secret to eating more plant-based meals.

Palmer’s other recommendation is “plantifying” your favorite dishes. “Just make your favorite entrees or meals plant-based, with a few swaps. If you love Taco Tuesday, make your tacos veggie (素食) by skipping the meat and serving black beans or a vegetarian mushroom with tofu filling. If you love Indian food, skip the chicken masala (马萨拉调味酱) and have chickpea (鹰嘴豆) masala instead. These will be foods you already love and are familiar with.”

Her biggest advice is to pick one day a week to follow through this and mark it on your calendar. “I love the Meatless Monday idea because people often start their best behavior at the beginning of the week... However, there may be a better day of the week for you. So just plan it,” Palmer said.

【1】The writer mentions Sharon Palmer as a registered dietitian and author of a book probably because he wants his readers to ______.

    A.firmly believe Palmer’s advice

    B.better understanding Palmer’s theory

    C.buy Palmer’s popular book

D.know the popularity of Palmer’s advice

【2】To plantify your favorite dishes, you can probably ______.

    A.try going meat-free one day a week

B.stock your fridge with whole plant foods

C.use vegetable fillings, not meat for dumplings

D.plan a meatless day of the week as you like

【3】According to the text, Palmer’s advice is_______.

    THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

    In Congress, July 4, 1776

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s god entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should d1 the causes which impel them to the separation.

We h2 these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created e3, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable R4, that among these are life, L5, and the pursuit of Happiness.

That to secure these rights, g 6 are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

That whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the P 7 to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, l8 its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such f9, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience has shown, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariable the same Object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their d 10, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
