26、Running can be a polarizing (两极分化的) subject. Most people fall into one of two camps: those who love running every morning, and those who would sooner do anything to avoid it. For most of my life, I was planted in the second camp.
I always hated running. I remembered entering a neighborhood 5K race with my dad at age 12; I also remembered that I came in last in the race, followed by only the police car driving patiently behind me. Three years later, I didn’t make the junior volleyball team because I couldn’t run a mile in under 10 minutes. Every time I ran, I felt as though failure — in some form or other — was the only possible result.
The summer after my freshman year, though, I took a job at a summer camp in Connecticut, where I got paid to be a kid again. I spent my days keeping an eye on different camp activities. When it came to exercise, running was my only choice. So, I made a promise myself: Every day, I would run for a while. By most runners’ standards, it wasn’t far; I guessed it was only about a mile. But I decided to do it every day, no matter how long it took. The exercise lasted for 61 days — the entire time I spent at camp that summer.
I started to feel better about myself. But to my great surprise, I learned to love running, too. I went from fearing the sport to loving it. I’ve finished seven marathons (马拉松赛跑) and more shorter races than I can remember, and now I am a running coach. These were the secrets I discovered to changing my way of looking at life.

27、 Several large companies have begun creating paper bottles to take the place of glass and plastic ones. Paper bottles aren’t quite ready to go yet, but you may see them appearing on shelves over the next few years.
Customers have become more worried about the environment, so many companies have begun working to develop paper bottles. Paper bottles have many benefits. Perhaps the most important is that they can be easily recycled. Paper bottles also weigh less than glass or plastic ones, meaning they’ll require less energy to produce and to move around. Since paper is soft and easy to be shaped, companies can design their bottles to take almost any shape they choose.
A company called Paboco has been working with many large companies to develop paper bottles. The companies are creating their own bottle designs, but they’re sharing what they learn to speed up the development of paper bottle technology.
Clearly, one of the biggest challenges is keeping a paper bottle from leaking (漏). Many companies are lining (做内衬) their bottles with a thin sheet of plastic. Though bottle makers may say they can be removed, many recycling programs don’t have the right machines to handle them.
A company named Diageo has just announced the first paper bottle that is completely plastic-free. Instead of a plastic liner, a non-plastic coating will be used on the inside of the bottles. This should make the bottle fully recyclable. But even without the plastic, paper bottles aren’t perfect, which means more trees need to be cut down to make the bottles.
There’s still lots of testing to be done before paper bottles can replace glass or plastic ones. But with so many companies working toward the same goal, it’s likely that we can expect to see paper bottles on store shelves in the near future.

A.It’s cooperating with some other large companies.
B.It’s creating its own bottle designs.
C.It’s studying how to prevent paper bottles from leaking alone.
D.It’s trying to keep its technology secret from others.
【3】What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Many companies. B.The paper bottles.
C.The thin sheets of plastic. D.Bottle makers.
【4】What can we infer from the last two paragraphs?
A.A non-plastic coating is the best solution to the problem of pollution.
B.Paper bottles still need to be improved before appearing in stores.
C.Paper bottles have taken the place of glass or plastic ones so far.
D.Many companies are working toward the same goal.

Many may associate Meghan Markle(梅根·马克尔) with the British royal family or the hit drama series Suits(《金装律师》). But the American actress has also made a name for herself in the activism(社会活动) world by getting 【1】 in number of charitable projects. While she has been seen as a key figure in raising global attention to gender equality(性别平等) lately, her activist nature dates back to her elementary school days.
One day more than two decades ago, Markle was watching a TV program at school when a dish-washing liquid commercial appeared on the screen. What attracted her attention was its tagline(品牌宣言): “Women all over America are fighting greasy(油腻的) pots and pans.” Two boys from her class said, “Yeah, that’s where women belong – in the kitchen.” Markle felt so shocked and angry at their response that she 【2】 to herself, “It just isn’t right and something needs to be done.”
After getting home, the young Markle decided to make 【3】 to the manufacturer P&G Meanwhile, she wrote to three 【4】 women, including former U.S. first lady Hillary Clinton. To Markle’s surprise, she received letters of encouragement from all three women, and a camera crew even came to her house in Los Angeles to cover the story.
The campaigning didn’t just encourage discussion and change on a local level either. Roughly a month later, P&G changed the commercial for their dish-washing liquid from “women all over America” to “people all over America.” It was at that moment that Markle realized the importance of her actions. By the age of 11, she had created her small level of 【5】 by standing up for gender equality.
Looking back on her experience of somehow accidentally becoming a women’s 【6】 activist, Markle reminded girls, “It isn’t enough to simply talk about equality. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to simply believe in it. One must work at it. Women need a seat at the table; they need an invitation to be seated there. It appears that through the ages and across different cultures, people have always changed their bodies and faces for a wide variety of reasons: sometimes to help them look more beautiful, and sometimes to enable them to show social position or display group identity.
