二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Not long ago my daughter’s shoes were scratched (划损) by someone’s knife. She burst into tears. I took the shoes to the shoemaker to get them repaired.

The young apprentice (学徒) glanced at the opening and said, “There is nothing I can do but to replace the upper.”

His master looked at them and said to me, “If you trust me, I will add more scratches on both of the shoes.”

I was confused and asked why.

“As if the openings were made on purpose for the sake of a special style and reuse,” he explained.

I didn’t fully understand him, but I decided to leave the shoes there.

Two days later I dropped by from work to fetch the shoes. At the first sight I found there were indeed five or six more scratches on each shoe, but all the openings were patched (打补丁) by red soft leather in red with edges sewed by thick thread; the stitches (缝线) were twisted with the appearance of roughness and plainness which was a perfect match for the quality of leather, more unique and interesting than ever. I couldn’t help admiring the shoemaker’s skills.

Another time, my sister’s white blouse was torn a large opening on the back. My wife took it over and checked carefully, and then said, “Let me take it home and mend it.”

Three days later, seeing the blouse again, I was shocked: all the cracks and openings were sewed up by thin and white thread and they took on a look of branches, like the ice crystal on winter’s branches in the north. In order to intensify the effect, she attached a snowman made of flowery cotton rags on the shirt. I sighed with praise, “It’s just as beautiful as a piece of art.”

I was inspired by it. In reality, patches are unavoidable, so is human’s life, which will appear in the form of injury, disability or disease. Since you can’t change the existence of wound, you should not expect people’s sympathy (同情) by the wound. All you can do and have to do is to sew the wound by patches and try your best to bloom a most beautiful flower on the wound, and that is the significance of life.

  • 27、For most of the recorded history of bicycles, wearing a helmet was something that was limited to professionals participating in competitions. 【1】

Nowadays, people are more aware of the need to make reasonable preparations to enjoy cycling safely. 【2】The fact is that it is unsafe to engage in this sort of behavior. Here are some facts that help explain why no one should ride a bicycle without a helmet.

A helmet can protect the rider from head injuries. Tens of thousands of bike riders are admitted to emergency rooms every year. In most cases, the rider was not wearing a bicycle helmet. The fact is that riding bicycle without a helmet is like operating a motor vehicle without wearing a seat belt. 【3】 The types of injuries range from simple cuts to major damage that causes swelling and pressure on the brain and even death.

【4】 In many instances, accidents involving bike riders also include some sort of motor vehicle. In a crash between the two devices, the rider of the bicycle is much more likely to suffer a serious injury. Helmets cushion (缓冲) the skull at the point of impact, minimizing the chances of any type of permanent damage that could result in brain damage or even death.

Adults should set an example for teens, teaching the value of safety by their actions. 【5】 Teens should also be engaged in setting the example for younger children.

A.Then a helmet makes your head safe.

    B.Unfortunately, not everyone appreciates bicycling.

C.Still, some people continue to ride a bicycle without a helmet.

D.Wearing a helmet yourself will encourage others to do likewise.

E.Bicycle helmets are designed to help absorb the shock of a crash.

F.In both cases, there is an increased risk of bodily harm, even permanent injury.

G.Until the 1980s, a movement to encourage the use of bicycle helmets among all bike riders arose.

  • 28、Physical education(体育), or PE, isn’t required for all high school students. In some schools, it isn’t offered for some different reasons. But should high school students receive physical education? The answer is certainly “Yes.”

Today many people don’t do sports. But as is known to all, doing sports is very important for an adult. Teaching teens the importance of a healthy lifestyle and making fitness plans now can help teens put exercise in the first place as an adult.

The American Heart Association says that 10 million kids and teens suffer from obesity(肥胖症). The increase in activities that don’t get teens to move around, such as computer games, means many teens don’t get their required exercise. PE classes act as a public health measure to encourage physical activities and help teens have healthy weights.

Not doing sports increases teens’ hazard of developing many diseases. An active lifestyle offers a good way of protection from these health problems. As much as 75 percent of health-care spending goes toward treating medical conditions that can be prevented by lifestyle changes, according to the American College of Sports Medicine.

According to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN), students who performed five hours of physical activity each week improved their academic(学业的)performance. Students from programs with no physical activity, who used the extra time for classroom study, did not perform better on tests than those who gave up some study time in support of physical education.

【1】According to Paragraph 2, what does physical education in high school mean?

A.Making teens attach importance to exercise later.

B.Removing the stress faced by teens at school.

C.Getting teens to encourage adults to exercise.

    A.happiness

    B.risks

    C.safety

A.means making students choose between sports and studies

B.helps students make good use of all their time

C.means students adjust to their studies better

D.helps students do better in their studies

D.How high school students can live a better life.

  • 29、Dogs are wonderful companions all their own, but they can also help change your life so that you’re more accepting of new friendships. A new study studied how dogs’ brains responded to the human voice and found that “the human brain responds to dog emotions the same way it responds to human emotions” and that the dog’s brain does the same.

Dogs are pack animals, so in terms of pet ownership, your dog will prefer to stay with you rather than somewhere alone. Think about how this concept applies to friendship. People today are getting more and more used to spending time on social networking, email, and text. While all methods of communication are good, there is nothing like seeing your friends and hearing their voice. With good friends, sometimes a look explains everything, and you can only get this when you’re together hanging out in person.

Let’s face it, dogs never hide their feeling. They let you know what they enjoy doing most, whether it is chasing a ball, going for a walk, or getting a treat. For people, it’s harder to be open with your emotions. But in order to truly find a friend, you’ll need to let go of your fears and put trust into your friends. The reality is that you’ll never make everyone you meet happy one-hundred percent of the time, so if your friends and family think you’re great, put aside the need to be liked by everyone.

Dogs wait for you to come home and are so happy to see you again that they practically do a happy dance when you walk through the door. Friends, on the other hand, are sometimes so busy that even hearing from a friend becomes an unwelcome interruption. Rather than avoid calls or emails, make a point to talk to friends on a regular basis.

1According to the text, dogs .

    A. will become human’s only friends

    B. can help people make their friends

    C. are good at finding friendly humans

    D. have similar brains to humans’

    2What are pack animals?

    A. Animals that like to stay with others

    B. Animals often owned by humans as pets

    C. Animals preferring to do everything alone

    D. Animals that people like to stay together with

3To keep a friendship, the author advises that one should .

    A. rely totally on social networking

    B. try to hide his true feeling from others

    C. attempt to make himself liked by everyone else

    D. communicate with friends face to face more ofter

4Why dogs often do a dance when the owners come back?

    A. They need something to eat

    B. They owners bring something nice

    C. They are happy to see the owners back

    D. They are afraid the owners will leave again
