24、When it comes to shopping for clothes, my mother and I have always disagreed on what fits me well. To me, if it zips, it fits. My mom, however, usually tells me I need a bigger size.
When I was a teenager, I wanted to dress like my friends, but my body size made it impossible. When mom told me something didn’t suit me, or I needed a bigger size, all I heard was that my body was wrong.
To avoid arguments, we stopped going shopping together. This continued until I got engaged(订婚) last year and needed to buy some clothes. When I tried on a blouse, my mother looked at me, and I knew what was coming. “You need a bigger size,” she said.
There was no bigger size. I tried to hold back my tears(眼泪). Maybe I could buy it alone, of course, but my mom is my favorite person to hang out with. The idea of looking for a wedding dress without her seemed just as scary as taking her with me.
And so the day came. As I tried on a simple white dress, I saw tears in my mom’s eyes. “You look beautiful!” she told me. Nothing could have shocked me more.
This one didn’t zip up at the back and I did actually need a bigger size, but my mother didn’t say that. She just told me how beautiful I looked. In that moment, all the arguments in the past ended. We didn’t buy a dress that day. We decided to see more.
A few weeks later, we found the perfect dress. We both loved it as soon as I put it on.
And during those few weeks, mom and I also found the perfect fit for our shopping relationship.

On Percy’s birthday, many bakers came with their cakes. The king liked one of them best, because it was like Percy a lot. So he said to the man, “Mark, you’re the Best Baker now.”
“But how does it taste?” A little girl asked. “You cannot say that if you haven’t even tasted his cake.”
Then the king cut the cake and found it was made of paper and sponge (海绵). He shouted, “Are you trying to kid me?”
Then the king said to the girl, “Now there is no cake for the party. What should I do?”
“Percy is lovely, but birds don’t eat cakes like we do. So I made this for him to eat,” the girl said and showed the king a small cupcake made of bird food.

26、When you open the fridge, you find some moldy (发霉的) food sometimes. But before you can throw it away, your mother stops you. She doesn’t want to waste food. She cuts off the moldy part and eats the rest. Is it safe to do this?
Mold can grow on almost all kinds of food. Mold is usually green, white, black or grey. Mold makes food soft and changes its color. Moldy food tastes quite bad—and it’s not safe to eat.
If you find mold in soft food, throw it away. Soft food, such as bread, tomatoes or hot dogs, usually holds water. This allows mold to easily grow below its surface. Bacteria (细菌) can also grow along with it.
But it’s easy to remove mold from hard food. The mold can’t grow very deeply inside this kind of food. According to the BBC, you should cut about 2.5 cm around and below the mold to remove it. It’s OK to cut the moldy parts out of hard food and eat the rest. But if the food is completely covered with mold, you should still throw it away.
Most kinds of mold are bad for us. But some kinds of mold can be used to make food. For example, penicillium can be used to make many types of cheeses, such as blue cheese. These cheeses are safe to eat—and they’re quite delicious as well.
【1】If you find mold on a tomato, ________.

27、Gianni has a very special kind of memory. He explains in his own words: “It’s a kind of memory that is connected to what I see. It means that every idea I learn, everything I read, becomes a part of me. Normally, a person who doesn’t have this gift, and who hasn’t studied memory, tends to just forget things—even an entire book. Not me.” Gianni says that his “gift”, or special ability, he has memorized more than 250 books!
Memorizing over 250 books is surprising, but it’s not the only surprising thing about Gianni. He says that he can remember every detail of every day of his life. He also says that he can remember these details from the time he was less than one day old!
Researchers are now studying how memory and learning change the brain. Some research already shows that a great memory may not depend on the right DNA only. It seems that everyone can remember more if they try. According to Dr. Malgaroli, “If you really need to use your brain to store some kind of information, you have this ability. It’s just a matter of exercise.” So, practice and exercising the brain can improve the memory!
The same idea is true for Gianni. His gift is just only part of his success. Since the age of 11, he’s been training his brain to remember more and more. He practices continuously to improve the power of his memory. Gianni thinks about memory, and works on it, all the time. He has even memorized a whole series of historical books!
Gianni believes his memory is mainly because of his very hard work. He even holds classes to teach others how to improve their memories. In his classes, Gianni shows people how to organize their memories and how to “remember to remember”. “I think the only problem with memory is the correct order. There’s a lot of brain space, so I think there are no limits.”
【1】Which of the following best describe Gianni?
A.He enjoys reading.
B.He is a clever student.
C.He can remember well.

B.Not everyone can have a good memory.
C.Practice can help build up your memory.
D.Brain is mainly used to store information.
【3】Why did Gianni memorize books?
A.To study brain science.
B.To develop his memory.
C.To improve his knowledge.
D.To prepare for historical tests.
【4】Which is the best title of the passage?

B.An Unforgettable Memory
