26、 An idea that started in Seattle’s public library has spread throughout America and beyond. The concept is simple: help to build a sense of community in a city by getting everyone to read the same book at the same time.
In addition to encouraging reading as a pursuit(追求) to be enjoyed by all, the program allows strangers to communicate by discussing the book on the bus, as well as promoting reading as an experience to be shared in families and schools. The idea came from Seattle librarian Nancy Pearl who launched(发起) the “If all of Seattle Read the Same Book” project in 1998. Her original program used author visits, study guides and book discussion groups to bring people together with a book, but the idea has since expanded to many other American cities, and even to Hong Kong.
In Chicago, the mayor (市长) appeared on television to announce the choice of To Kill a Mockingbird as the first book in the “One Book, One Chicago” program. As a result, reading clubs and neighborhood groups appeared around the city. Across the US, stories emerged of parents and children reading to each other at night and strangers chatting away on the bus about plot and character.
The only problem arose in New York, where local readers could not decide on one book to represent the huge and diverse population. This may show that the idea works best in medium-sized cities or large towns, where a greater sense of unity(一致) can be achieved. Or it may show that New Yorkers rather missed the point, putting all their energy and passion into the choice of the book rather than discussion about a book itself.
Finally, as Nancy points out, the level of success is not measured by how many people read a book, but by how many people are enriched by the process or have enjoyed speaking to someone with whom they would not otherwise have shared a word.
【1】What is the purpose of the project launched by Nancy?
A.To invite authors to guide readers.
B.To involve people in community service.
C.To encourage people to buy books to read.
D.To strengthen the communication among citizens.

A.More citizens chose to go to work by bus.
B.More and more reading clubs were founded.
C.Parents preferred to watch TV with their children.
D.Strangers talked about the mayor more frequently.
【3】Why was it difficult for New Yorkers to carry out the project?
A.They had little interest in reading.
B.They were too busy to read a book.
C.They came from many different backgrounds.
D.They lacked support from the local government.
【4】According to the passage, where would the project be more easily carried out?
A.In large communities with little sense of unity.
B.In large cities where libraries are far from home.
C.In medium-sized cities with a diverse population.
D.In large towns where agreement can be quickly reached.
27、 Audio digital (有声数字化)books are becoming more andmore popular these years. One of the reasons for this is that audio digital books can be “read”in many places comfortably.
The first favorite place for many people is in bed, before going to sleep. There are nights when a person would want to do nothing but lie in bedgoing over what has happenedin the day. Many people like to just lie in bed in the dark before they fall asleep at night. This wouldbe the perfect time to listen to an audio digital book. If you read an ordinary book, the lights have to be turned on and you have to turn the pages with your hand. An audio book can just be listened to while a person stays comfortably in bed.
The next favorite place to listen to audio digital books would be in the kitchen. For some people kitchen work is boring. Audio digital books provide good entertainment, and people don’t need to turn pages.
An audio digital book is a favorite while a person is gardening. They can help take a person’s mind off job at hand. It can be fun and exciting to do gardening with the help of these books.
Another great place would be while exercising. It allows the mind to be free while the legs, body and arms are kept busy. This would be a great place to listen to these books.

28、 If parents praise everything their children do, it doesn't build their confidence and finally the Praise becomes meaningless.
Most parents and educators agree that praise is developing children's confidence, so the more praise, the better. Although praise is obviously good for children, if adults praise everything children do, the praise can finally lose its effect—youngsters will constantly seek praise.
Rather than responding to all of children's work with phrases such as “Good job” or “Nice work”, teachers should consider comments that describe the contents and encourage children to continue to improve, the researchers advise.
“Too much praise doesn't make children happier, achieve more or become more capable,” said Marshall Duke, a psychologist. Identifying a child's strengths and developing those strengths help build confidence more than constant praise does. Praise also loses its effect if the praise is the same for all the students. For example, if all the students in a class are told their paintings are great and students know some are better than others, the praise will lose its meaning.
“There is a need to have more room on either side of 'good'.” said Duke. “It's necessary to make detailed comments. Saying the truth properly is far more beneficial than empty praise.”
Adults have gotten into the habit of not telling children when they are wrong, and that will not help them deal with problems. Duke added, “That's not how the world is.”
【1】What will be the result if parents praise their children too much?
A.They will always seek praise.
B.They will get very tired of it.
C.They will do better in their studies.
D.They won't get along well with others.
【2】What can parents do to build their children's confidence?
A.Praise them as much as possible.
B.Encourage them to go on improving.
C.Tell them to get praise from teachers.
D.Let them do more difficult work.
【3】What does Duke mean by saying “There is a need to have more room on either side of ‘good’” in paragraph 5?
A.Never say “Good job” to children.
B.“Good” is the best word for children.
C.It is important to praise children properly.
D.Children who often get “Good” from others will be successful
【4】What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.The More Praise, the Better
B.How to Praise Children Timely
C.Praise Is Always Good for Children
D.Too Much Praise Doesn't Help Children Build Confidence
29、 It's 51 years since man first stepped on the moon, and were still dreaming of escaping life on Earth for the mysteries of space. If a career as an astronaut isn’t interesting for you, perhaps the promise of a stay in a space hotel might be attractive.
Californian company The Gateway Foundation has released plans for the Von Braun Station, a ship-style hotel floating among the stars. The aim is to get the hotel off the ground by 2025 and make it fully operational for travel by 2027. According to the video and images released by the Gateway Foundation, the station looks like a rotating(旋转)wheel, made up of 24 parts, circling the Earth. Tim Alatorre, senior designer at the Gateway Foundation, says the wheel can create a simulated(模仿的) gravity.
The Gateway Foundation’s hotel design is named for Wernher Von Braun, an aerospace engineer who pioneered rocket technology, first in Germany and later in the United States.
Space tourism is an expensive game-a stay in its space hotel will cost $9. 5 million. The Von Braun Station will sleep 352 people with a maximum capacity of 450.
So what will Von Braun Station be like inside? On board. there’ll be warm suites with carpets and stylish touches and bars that wouldn't look out of place back on Earth, just with star -observing views. There will also be plenty of fun amusement activities for guest to enjoy, says Alatorre. “We’re going to have a number of different amusement activities and games that’ll highlight the fact that you're able to do things that you can’t do on Earth,” he says. “Because of the weightlessness and the reduced gravity, you’ll be able to jump higher, be able to lift things, be able to run in ways that you can't on Earth.”
Given the design is still exactly that just a design there are some questions that remain unanswered about how the space hotel will work in reality. The construction on the Gateway Foundations project is set to begin on October 1, 2021.

【3】Which of the following best describes the inside of the hotel?
