26、 A team of engineers at Harvard University in trying to create the first robotic fly. Designed to do what a fly does naturally, the tiny is the size of a fat housefly. Its mini wings allow it to stay in the air and perform controlled flight tasks.
"The added difficulty with a project like this is that actually none of its components is off the shelf and so we have to develop them all on our own’ said Robert Wood, a Harvard engineering professor.
They engineered a series of systems to start and drive the robotic fly. “The seemingly simple system which just moves the wings has a number of interdependencies (相互依赖)on the individual components, each of which individually has to perform well, but then has to be matched well to everything it d connected to,” said Wood.
While this first robotic flyer is linked to a small, off-board power source, the goal is eventually to equip it with a built-in power source, so that it might someday perform data-gathering work at rescue sites,in farmers’ fields or on the battlefield. "Basically it should be able to take off, land and fly around,” he said.
Wood says the design offers a new way to study flight mechanics and control at insect-scale. Yet, the power, sensing and computation technologies on board could have much broader applications.“You can start thinking about using them to answer open scientific questions, you know, to study biology in ways that would be difficult with the animal, but using these robots instead” he said. "So there are a lot of technologies and open interesting scientific questions that are really what drives us on a day-to-day basis.”
【1】What is the typical characteristic of the robotic fly?
A.It's automatic.
B.It's very small.
C.It's controllable.
D.It's quite powerful.

A.It is highly questionable.
B.It has wide practical applications.
C.It gives scientists interest in flying machines.
D.It points to a new direction in studying biology.
【4】What can be the best title for the passage?
A.Harvand's Study in the Field of Insects.

27、Do you have imagination? Do you like to solve problems? Can you? If so, you could be the next great inventor. “But I’m just a kid”, you might be! Don’t worry about a little thing like age. For example, one famous inventor, Benjamin Franklin, got his start when he was only 12. At that young age, he created paddles for his hands to help him swim faster. Finally his creation led to what we know is called flippers!
So you don’t have to be adult to be an inventor. One thing you do need, though, is something that kids have plenty of: curiosity and imagination. Kids are known for looking at things in new and unique ways.
So what should you do if you have what is a great idea for an invention? Talk to a friend or family member about it. Get input from others about your idea. Then ask them to help you create a working model — called a prototype (原型) of your idea.
Once you have a prototype, you can test it. Sometimes your idea turns out to be not as great as you thought. At other times, though, you realize it is a good idea and your prototype can help you figure out how to make it even better.
If your idea is really a good one, an adult can help you contact companies that might be interested in it. You will also want an adult’s help to get a patent for your idea, so that it is protected and can’t be stolen by someone else. If you need some inspiration, consider these kids and their inventions.
Jeanie Low invented the Kiddie Stool when she was just 11. It’s a folding stool that fits under the kitchen sink. Kids can unfold it and use it to reach the sink all by themselves.
At the age of 15, Louis Braille invented the system named after him that allows the blind to read.
Chelsea Lanmon received a patent when she was just 8 for the “pocket diaper (尿布)”, a new type of diaper that includes a pocket for holding baby wipes and powder.
【1】By saying “But I’m just a kid”, you probably mean you _______.
A.are too young to achieve anything
B.can do anything though you are young
C.are old enough to become an inventor
D.have to learn knowledge from other people
【2】Kids are most likely to be inventors probably because they__________.
A.would like to make friends with others
B.usually work hard at their lessons at school
C.like playing all kinds of toys at home
D.think about things in quite different ways
【3】Who invented something that helps the blind to read?

28、A walk through the galleries of Quebec's Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) places individuals face-to-face with some 43,000 artworks ranging from Chinese ceramics (陶瓷制品) to Inuit sculpture.
While the visiting is an incredible cultural experience, a group of local physicians will soon be able to prescribe(开处方) museum visits as treatment for some illnesses.
Hélène Boyer, vice president of a Montreal-based medical association, explains that museum visits have been shown to increase levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter (神经传导物质) known as the "happy chemical" which helps to lift mood.
According to Boyer, the small increase in hormones(荷尔蒙)associated with enjoying an afternoon of art is similar to that offered by exercise, making museum prescriptions ideal for the elderly experiencing pain that prevents them from regularly joining in physical activity.
The museum visits are designed to improve traditional methods. As Bondil notes, spending time in a peaceful environment can provide a welcome distraction. "What is most important is this experience can help them escape from their own pain," she says. "When you enter the museum, you escape from the speed of our daily life."
"I am convinced that in the 21st century, culture will be what physical activity was for health in the 20th century," said Bondil. " Some people would do well to recall that just in the 19th century, sports were believed to do harm to the body. Just as doctors now prescribe exercise, they will be able to prescribe a visit to the MMFA."
【1】What does Hélène Boyer think of museum visits?
A.They can cheer people up.
B.They can reduce physical activity.
C.They can slow down our life pace.
D.They can increase levels of art appreciation.
【2】How do museum visits affect people?
A.Stop them concentrating on pain.
B.Stop them focusing on traditional methods.
C.Encourage them not to be absent-minded.
D.Encourage them to slow their steps while walking.
【3】What does the last paragraph suggest?
A.Physical activities were popular in the 19th century.
B.Sports are considered to be harmful to the body.
C.Ideas of treating illnesses are changing over time.
D.Doctors prescribe museum visits regularly now.
【4】What is the main idea of the text?
A.Museum visits are ideal for the elderly.
B.Happy chemical helps to lift mood.
C.Peaceful environment helps escape pain.
D.Cultural activities will promote health
29、 Joseph Lister. born in 1827 in England, was best known as a popular British surgeon(外科医生)and a pioneer of antiseptic (抗菌的)operation. As a child. Lister attended a Quaker school, where he became very fluent in French and German. These two languages were the leading languages in medical research.
He later entered University College London. At first, he studied botany(植物学)After this, he became a medical student and managed to graduate with honors. At 26, he entered the Royal College of Surgeons. Lister became an assistant of James Syme, a surgeon at a university in Scotland.
In 1867. he invented the use of a kind of chemical as antiseptic. This became the first widely used antiseptic in surgery. Before Lister's research, many people believed chemical damage from exposures to bad air was the reason behind the infections in wounds. During this time, hospitals were at times letting air out during midday in order to prevent the spread on infections. However, hospitals also practiced surgery under some unsanitary conditions compared with present medical conditions, which exposed patients to great risks.
While at University of Glasgow, Lister heard about Louis Pasteur's theory. Louis Pasteur suggested 3 methods to fight the micro-organism, filtration(过滤)exposure to chemical solutions and exposure to heat. Lister confirmed Pasteur s theory with his own experiments. He decided t0 use these findings to create some antiseptic techniques for wounds, which led to the reduction in post-operative infections, making surgery safe for patients. He published his findings in The Lancet.
In 1881, Lister moved to London where he was appointed president of Clinical Society of London and died in 1892.

A Surprise Job
Tiegan always liked to sing. Her earliest memories all have songs in them. Tiegan liked to sing in the bath tub when she was getting ready for bed, and she liked to sing in the morning while she walked to school.
Sometimes, though, Tiegan’s family liked the house to be quiet. Mom liked to solve crossword puzzles, and Dad liked to watch the news on TV each night. “It’s quiet time, Tiegan,” they would say. Then Tiegan had to find something else to do. She had plenty of puzzles and games, but she didn’t like them as much as singing.
One summer day, Tiegan was singing her favorite songs in the living room, Dad came downstairs and said, “Tiegan, I have a headache. Can you go outside and play? I really need it to be quiet so I can take a nap.”
Tiegan sighed and went outside. It was a sunny day, and many people were outside riding bikes and walking their dogs. She sat on the roadside and looked around. Then she started to hum(哼歌). She was careful to be quiet at first, but soon the humming turned to singing. “Dad probably can’t hear me anyway,” she thought, ”so it’s probably okay to sing outside.“
The sun was very warm, and Tiegan took off her baseball cap. Now she could feel a cool breeze across her forehead, which felt nice. She dropped her hat on the sidewalk and kept singing.
Just as Tiegan finished one of her favorite songs, a man with a small dog stopped in front of her. ”That was a beautiful song," he said. And he dropped a dollar into her hat. Before Tiegan could say anything, the man walked away with his dogs.
Tiegan wasn’t sure what to do with the dollar, but she did want to keep singing. As she started her next song, their neighbor Mrs. Maudslay came out of her house and looked over the fence.
