四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to a man in his own language, that goes to his heart.”Nelson Mandela, the late president of South Africa.

Mandela understood that our mother language can make us closer. For people who speak an ancient language as their mother language, it helps them keep their traditions. Their language is their main connection with their ancestors(祖先). And it is also how they imagine the future.

But there are fewer and fewer existing languages over the last century, more than 400 languages have died out. Some languages are now spoken only by a few dozen people, like Yagan in Chile. Africa and South America are also places where many languages are dying. Why are humans speaking fewer languages than we once did. The answer has to do with globalization(全球化). Nowadays, it’s more useful to speak certain languages-English is one example-rather than others. This has killed some languages, usually the ones spoken by fewer or less influential people.

But some people aren’t prepared to accept a planet with fewer and fewer languages. They want to find and protect more endangered languages. And the United Nations has set Feb. 21 as International Mother Language Day. The organization wants people to pay more attention to dying languages and make them more animate.

This work is of great importance. Just as the US writer Rita Mae Brown wrote, “Language is a kind of symbol of a culture. It tells where its people come from and where they are going.”

    1People’s mother language ________.

A.goes to their head B.helps them keep their traditions

C.connects them with their mothers D.helps them become more influential

2Why are humans speaking fewer languages than we once did?

A.Because over 400 languages have died out.

B.Because languages in South America are dying.

C.Because certain languages are useful to speak now.

D.Because only English is an easy language to speak.

3The underlined word “animate” in the passage means ________.

    A.moving B.puzzling C.exciting D.living

4What do Rita Mae Brown’s words mean?

A.The UN wanted to create a new language.

B.A person’s hometown can be found easily.

C.The language is an important part of a culture.

D.The language can help people go anywhere.

5What is the best title for this passage?

    A.We Should Speak English More.

    B.The International Mother Language Day.

    C.Globalization Has Killed Some Languages.

D.We Should Pay More Attention to Mother Language.

More than 95 percent of people in the world have phones today. Phone calls and messages help us easily keep in touch with others. It means that we seldom write letters now. But a TV show, Letters Alive is bringing back this old habit.

Letters Alive got its idea from a UK program with a similar name. Both shows invite famous actors and actresses, but there are no funny jokes or different competitions. Instead, it’s just one person walking up to microphone and read the letter.

The letters were written by people from different times in history. Guan Zhengwen, the director of the TV show, said, “Every letter opens another world for us. It seems that we can experience the real lives and feelings of the writers.”

Since its first episode(集)on December 5th, Letters alive has been widely praised. Many audiences-- the people who watched the TV show, said that it has provided a breath of fresh air to todays TV shows.

Besides Letters Alive, some other cultural TV shows have also been well received by Chinese audiences. They include Chinese Poetry Conference, a classical Chinese poetry competition, and Readers, a program that invites people to read poems and articles they like or wrote.

“This means that our audiences are not only looking for entertainment like gossip(八卦)and eye-catching games, ” reported China Youth Daily. “Cultural values and true feeling are the keys to winning praise.”

1According to the passage, people seldom ________to keep in touch with others today.

    A.write letters B.make calls C.send messages D.send e-mails

2We can enjoy ________ in the TV show Letters Alive.

    A.导演 B.作者 C.观众   D,朗读者

4We can know that Readers is the name of________ from the passage.

  • 26、Are you a gourmand(美食主义者)? Do you want to eat every delicious food in the world? Then do you watch the popular program? “A Bite of China(舌尖上的中国)” is a documentary on Chinese delicious food which has been broadcast by Chinese central television. Is there any holiday that isn't celebrated with a special festival food? Here are several traditional Chinese foods:

Eggs hold a special meaning in many cultures, and China is no exception(例外). The Chinese believe eggs mean producing something new. After a baby is born, parents may hold a "red egg and ginger party," where they pass out eggs to announce the birth. In some areas of China the number of eggs represents the sex of the child, for example, an even number(1,3,5,---) for a girl, and an odd number(2,4,6---) if a boy has been born.

Noodles are a symbol of long life in Chinese culture. They are as much a part of a Chinese birthday celebration as a birthday cake with lit candles is in many countries. Since noodles represent long life, it is considered very unlucky to cut it off.

Although westerners sometimes may be very sorry to see fish lying on a plate, in China a whole fish is a symbol of richness. In fact, at a party it is traditional to serve the whole fish last, pointed toward the valued guest. Fish also has a special meaning because the Chinese word for fish, yu, sounds like the word for richness or plenty, and it is believed that eating fish will help your wishes come true in the year to come.

A very popular dish during the Dragon Boat Festival is Zongzi. This tasty dish is made of rice dumplings with meat, peanut or other delicious food in bamboo leaves. The tradition of Zongzi is meant to remind us of a great man, Qu Yuan.

The 50-minute program tries to bring something new by presenting more cultural elements(元素),such as eating habits and the quality of eating.

【1】How many kinds of traditional food are mentioned in the passage?

    A. two   B. three C. four D. five

2Which of the following is RIGHT according to the passage?

    A. It is impolite to serve a whole fish last at a party in China.

    B. There are many kinds of Zongzi during the Dragon Boat Festival.

    C. The program lasts less than one hour and only introduces traditional Chinese food.

    D. We can cut birthday noodles off in China if we think they are too long

    A. The writer thinks everyone can have a good eating habit after watching the program.

    B. The writer thinks the program has more meanings inside than the story itself.

    C. The writer thinks the program is too long.

    D. The writer thinks the program has brought many kinds of delicious food to us.
