27、Tyson Terry wakes up, gets ready for school, and then turns on his computer. Ifs his first day of seventh grade. But he’s not going anywhere. Nowadays, going to school has become unsafe for him and many other students around the world.
For many students, distance learning has become the usual state. They have to take classes on virtual platforms (虚拟平台). Besides, kids are also stuck at home during their free time. Tyson and his friends can chat with each other only on screens.
A recent study shows that Tyson and his friends aren’t the only young people getting plenty of screen time these days. In April 2020, almost 1,500 parents in Canada reported their kids had less exercise and more screen time. Researchers have found that kids who spend a lot of time on screens are more likely to have eye problems and trouble with reading. Yet right now, screens are the only safe way to learn or socialize. How should they get out of this dilemma (困境)?
“I think to say screen time is bad or good is both dangerous,” says Michelle Guerrero who studies diseases. Different types of screen time have both costs and advantages, she says. You should be mindful of how much screen time you get. But for many families, “right now, staying within two hours is just not realistic.”
Taren Sanders, a health scientist, agrees. “Overall, I’m not too concerned about the additional screen time kids are having,” he says. The things you should be thinking about are the amount of exercise you get and the way you spend your free time.
The biggest problem with screens is that people usually sit without moving while they watch screens. A long time sitting leads to bad changes in one’s body and is more likely to cause health problems. So an important question to ask yourself is not how much screen time you are getting, but how active you are.

28、 I was born without hands and feet. It’s a rare condition. Living with that adversity has made me who I am today.
My parents helped me develop tools to overcome my challenges. When I was two, my dad decided that my family would stop helping me eat. He knew that one day I’d live on my own, so I’d have to look after myself. I learned to eat with a spoon, and then with a knife and fork. It gave me a huge sense of accomplishment.
My darkest moment came when I was 10. My family had moved from Indiana to Georgia. In Indiana, friends treated me as normal. But in Georgia, it was different. I felt very aware of my disability. I worried I’d have to live at home forever. I felt hopeless about the future.
My world changed when I got into sports. I started playing football. Everything came together when I made my first tackle at age 11. It was my first real achievement.
Everyone I played against was able-bodied. At first, I struggled. But I threw everything I had into learning to be the best player. I turned my lack of height into a weapon.
Then I decided to start wrestling(摔跤). I lost 35 games, but then I had a breakthrough. I had an amazing coach who helped me invent moves that took advantage of my strength. My different body type was a psychological advantage — opponents(对手)didn’t know how to handle it. I eventually finished 12th in the 103-pound weight class in the championships.
I keep going in the face of obstacles(障碍). Instead of thinking about the ultimate(最终的) goal, I focus on the immediate future. When I’m climbing a mountain, I’m down on all fours looking at the ground. It’s not going to do me any good to look up at the summit(山顶).
I just figure out how to do the best I can with the next few feet in front of me.

C.By developing a psychological advantage.
D.By learning how to better use his strength.
【4】What is the writer’s attitude toward life?
A.He concentrates on what’s directly ahead.

29、Migraine is a disease that has a number of symptoms (症状), including head pain that can stick around from four hours to several days. While migraines can happen partly because of genetic (基因的) problems, attacks may happen by chance, set off by a cause in the environment.
One common cause is food, and some common dietary causes include alcohol, salt, sugar, chocolate, and caffeine. But there are many others, and scientists continue to identify more. Last year, for example, a Brazilian study found that watermelons brought on a headache within minutes in about 30 percent of the participants.
Some new researches are looking at which foods and what kinds of diets can prevent or lessen migraines. A new study published last year by a team of researchers found that a diet higher in fish oils rather than vegetable oils helped people ease their headaches. In the study, those on a diet lower in vegetable oil and higher in fatty fish had a 30 to 40 percent reduction in total headache hours per day, serious headache hours per day, and overall headache days per month compared to the control group.
Tanya Kamka had suffered weekly migraines for most of her life. Then, in her 50s, she joined the NIH diet experiment and increased her intake of fish. After only a few months, “I haven’t had a migraine, not even a mild one, in over two years.” she says.
For others, the solution comes from plants, not fish. A 60-year-old man joined a study on the food-migraine link and turned to a diet, which includes a lot of dark, leafy greens. After two months he was experiencing only one migraine a month instead of the 18 to 24 a month he’d suffered before.
Clearly, people with migraines react to food in very different ways. What works for one person may not work for another.

When Mike was a seven-year-old kid, his parents usually didn’t give him money because he liked to buy junk food. They knew such food would be harmful to kids’ body.
But one day Mike strongly wished to buy such food. He knew he couldn’t persuade his parents to give him money to buy it, so he was upset. At noon that day, his mom was having a nap in the bedroom while his dad was working out of the home. Mike suddenly found his mom’s wallet on the sofa in the living room. Usually, his mom would put the wallet close to her — not this time.
Mike found a good chance to get money. He thought he could secretly take some from his mom’s wallet without letting her discover it. Then, he slowly walked towards the wallet and opened it. There was lots of money. Mike took a few coins and walked out of the house, going directly to a store in his community.
He bought a bag of food that was very peppery and a bottle of iced Coca-cola. Instead of returning home, he hung around outside to enjoy the food and the drink in case his mom discovered it. When he opened the food bag, a strong, hot and sweet smell rushed into his nose. He tasted some: it was delicious. But it was too hot and his mouth seemed to be on fire. However, he didn’t take notice of it. Minutes later, he ate up the bag of junk food and finished the drink. Then he returned home. His mother was still sleeping.
In the afternoon that day, Mike began to feel uncomfortable and wanted to vomit. He felt pain in his stomach. At first, he could stand it. However, finally, he couldn’t bear it anymore and told his mom that he felt sick. But Mike didn’t tell his mom the truth that he had some hot junk food. Not knowing what was wrong with Mike, his mom was worried.
