26、Grandpa moved in with us after Grandma passed away. He came to Canada from China, where he was a well-respected school headmaster.
I, a nine-year-old boy, never spoke much Chinese. Grandpa didn’t speak much English, but we still connected in our own way.
One way we developed our relationship was over a game of Monopoly. He didn’t really understand the rules or much of what my little brother and I said; I don’t think it mattered. He laughed when he landed on our hotels. Or when he pulled a card that read: “GO TO JAIL.” He got a kick out of our amusement.
I think of Grandpa when I play the trading card game Yu-Gi-Oh! with my sons. I can’t keep track of all the spells and effects involved in this game.
Truthfully, I don’t care if I win or lose these games. What matters is spending time with my children and making an effort to understand their interests.
I often think about my kids. At how excitedly they explain rules and how they go easy on their old man. I imagine it’s like how Grandpa felt playing Monopoly with us.
Grandpa went for regular walks. He also spent his days sitting on the couch, staring out the window and singing quietly. I often thought he was bored. But as I age, I find peace in taking moments to stare out a window. Maybe I got that from him.
What I learned from my grandfather was to enjoy simple pleasures in life. To see the beauty in the colors of the rainbow. To see a single leaf fall from a tree. To play Yu-Gi-Oh! with my sons.

B.To share his grandfather’s influence on him.
C.To advise older people to learn about kids’ games.
D.To remind readers to spend more time with family.
27、A Russian natural gas tanker has completed an experimental round trip along the Northern Sea Route - the first time the path across the Arctic has been made at this time of year. If returned to the Russian gas station at Sabetta on February 19. The voyage by the Christophe de Margerie tanker through the ice is the latest visual indicator of climate change in the cold region.
The tanker set out from a Chinese port on January 27 after delivering its cargo (货物). It entered the Northern Sea Route, which traverses (横越) Russia's north coast. A few days later near Cape Dezhnev, it was met by the Russian nuclear icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy (50 Years of Victory). Together they completed the 2,500 -nautical-mile voyage through the ice.
The ship managed to complete the first leg of the trip from Russia to China without an icebreaker. Both of the journeys broke records for winter navigation (航行) due to the changing climate in the Arctic allowing passage through thinner ice. Using the Northern Sea Route lets shippers in Russia and other countries avoid a much longer southern journey around Europe, the Middle East and all of southern Asia, saving millions of dollars.
The ships chanced upon no multi-year buildup of old ice on the route, and the deepest ice was about 5 feet thick. However, meteorologist and journalist Eric Holthaus called that a clear indicator of "a climate emergency".
Last May, Christophe de Margorie became the first large-capacity cargo ship to complete an eastbound transit of the Northern Sea Route two months earlier in the year than the journey traditionally made.
"As a result of the early Northern Sea Route voyage completed by Christophe de Margerie in May 2020, as well as the current NSR voyage, the navigation in the Eastern part of the Arctic was practically doubled," Eric Holthaus said. He noted that for decades the transit route along that part of the NSR had typically remained closed by ice from November until July.
【1】Which factor contributed most to Christophe de Margerie's successful trip?
A.The nuclear power.
B.The ocean current.
C.The climate change.
D.The ideal equipment.

C.4 months.

28、In order to save money on groceries, you can try the following ways which will help you cut $100 out of grocery bill every month without too much effort.
【1】 Convenience lets you save time for other things you need to get done. Although pre-made items may save your time, they cost a pretty penny. These items come in the form of packaged dinners or pre-cut produce. Instead of buying plates of cut pineapple, buy the whole fruit or vegetable for a part of the cost.
Know what to buy in large amount. Shopping at warehouse (批发店) is a great way to save money. However, not every item is worth buying in large amounts. 【2】
Skip the meat. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the average cost of beef is $4.13 per pound this March. 【3】 If you skip the beef twice a week, you can instantly cut $30 to $40, if not more, off your monthly grocery bill.
Know what to buy in season. Fruits and vegetables are a great addition to your daily diet, but they can add a significant amount to your grocery bill, especially when you buy items out of season. As produce items go out of season, they become more expensive as the supply decreases. 【4】
【5】 However, there are ways to stretch your dollar further without hurting your habits.
A.Store pre-made items.
B.Skip the prepared items.
C.Shopping for groceries can be an expensive attempt.

29、Hope for Solving Our Seas’ Problems
The world’ oceans, more than 70 percent of the Earth's surface, are filled with problems: Overfishing, warming and acidifying (酸化的) waters, plastic pollution, a loss of abundance and diversity. 【1】 But it's of great importance. To care about the ocean in the 21st century is to feel conflicted: despairing what's been lost, optimistic about what we can save.
David Doubilet is a photographer who has already spent more than 27,000 hours underwater. 【2】 There is an image where Doubilet holds a photo he's made on the same reef, in the same spot, in 2009 — and what that reef looked like nine years later. The decline has been completely discouraging.
【3】 He talks about places where the coral's still healthy and is even being used to develop new species of more resilient (可迅速恢复的) coral. And he believes his work documenting all of this — the good and the bad — can inform and inspire.
“The time in the sea has given me a priceless perspective,” he says. “I can make pictures that bear witness. Pictures have this power to educate. But he is careful not to show only pictures that make people feel bad —“【4】”
That’s the message of this issue: 【5】 As Doubilet puts it; “With hope, there's always the ability to change. Whether we choose to drive a hybrid car or not, whether we choose to turn down the temperature, whether we use sustainable energy. Above all, there is hope.”
A.We need pictures that also show hope and resilience.
B.There is reason for hope and a lot that each of us can do.
C.It was like a bunch of corals, and I went back to a boneyard.
