  • 25、   Writing text messages while walking is dangerous. A study says it is more dangerous than texting while driving. Researchers found that there are more injuries(伤害)to texting walkers than there are to texting drivers. Their report says walking is not as easy as we think. We must focus on(专注)many things at the same time to walk safely in a straight line. The researchers said that people forget how to walk properly, so dangerous things happen to them. They run into walls and other people. They walk into cars, fall over things in the street, and even fall into holes or downstairs.

A professor said walking is a difficult action. There are several reasons why texting makes walking dangerous. One is that people cannot see the street. Another is that they are focusing on their phones instead of their feet. A final reason is that their minds are somewhere else—they are not thinking about walking from A to B safely. The professor said over 6000 people visited his hospital last year because of texting. He said the worst cases are head injuries. When a walker is tossed() into the air he or she has nothing to protect the head. The damage(损害) can be serious.

1A study has found that   .

A.texting while walking is more dangerous

B.texting while driving is safe for drivers

C.walking is safer than driving when texting

D.writing text messages in the house is dangerous

2What will happen to texting walkers?

A.They will walk safely in a straight line.

B.They will run into walls and other people.

C.They will do great harm to the passing cars.

D.They will focus on many things at the same time.

3How many reasons did a professor give for why texting makes walking difficult?

    A.One. B.Two. C.Three. D.Four.

4What kinds of injuries did the professor say were worst?

    A.Head injuries. B.Back injuries.

    C.Eye injuries. D.Finger injuries.

  • 26、   This summer, thousands of visitors are walking in through a garden in the sky. It is right in the middle of New York City. They are enjoying a beautiful, new park called the High Line, which was built on old railway tracks.

After the railway was no longer used in 1980, wild plants, grass and trees began to grow between the tracks. A few people looked at this natural garden and saw something amazing. They worked to protect the area when others wanted to pull it down. Today, the High Line attracts up to 2 million visitors every year. This summer, the new part of the High Line started, almost doubling the park’s size to one mile.

The design of the park is special. The new part includes many activities for children. Young people can use building toys, including wood, wheels, ropes, gears and tools, to create one of a kind structures (构造). The toys don’t come with instructions. Instead, children use their imaginations to fashion houses, animals and machines.

Everyone supporting the High Line project wanted the park to go around the city,” says Danya Sherman, director of public programs for the Friends of the High Line. The Friends of the High Line is the group that saved the railway from pulling down. Sherman believes that public spaces such as the High Line have the power to bring communities closer.

The park also gives visitors a chance to experience nature in the city. The designers have allowed the park to keep the overgrown feeling that it had when it was an unused track. If you visit, you can see birds, butterflies and many plants that grow in the northeastern United States.

The Friends of the High Line hope to make the park even larger, over an area that is still used as a rail yard. The High Line has also inspired projects in other cities, including Philadelphia, Chicago, and Amsterdam, where people hope to build new parks on old railway tracks.

1The writer thinks the design of the new park is special because ________.

A.the size is one mile B.the park looks like a wheel

C.children can create a structure freely D.it was built on new railway tracks

2According to Danya Sherman, the High Line ________.

A.go past a building with public programs inside

B.helps people to make more friends

C.should be taken away from the city

D.will never go around the city of New York

3It can be inferred from passage that ________.

A.all the rail yards will be pulled down

B.most natural animals will leave the park

C.more parks on old railway tracks will appear

D.many people don’t support the High Line project

4What would be the best title for this passage?

A.The famous theme park B.The modern railway tracks

C.The friends of the Great Line D.The natural garden in the sky

  • 27、In classes, your teachers will talk about topics that you are studying. The information they provide will be important for you to know when you take tests. You must be able to take good written notes from what your teachers say.

Taking good notes has three stages. There are certain things you should do before class, during class, and after class. Here are the three stages of note-taking and what you should do during each class.

Bring all note-taking materials with you to class - several pens and pencils as well as your notebook.

    2. Take Notes

Notice what your teacher is saying. Notice "signal statements". Examples of signal statements are "The most important point ..." and "Remember that ..," Be sure to include in your notes information that your teacher repeats or written on the blackboard.

Write quickly so that you can include all the important information in your notes. Do this by writing abbreviated (简化的) words such as med for medicine, using symbols such as % for percent(百分之), and writing short sentences. Place a "?" next to information about whose meaning you are not sure.

六、完型填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 29、In the corner of my desk is a note, which is slowly turning yellow from time. It is a _________ from my mother, with only four sentences, but with enough influence to change my life forever.

In it, she praises my abilities as a writer. Each sentence is full of _________. The word “but” never appears on the card; however, the word “and” is there many times.

Every time I read it, I am myself to ask myself how many times I’ve said “but” to my own daughters.

Although our eldest daughter _________ got all “A”s on her report card, teachers would always suggest that she _________ too much in class. I always forgot to ask them if she was improving. _________, I would greet her with, “Congratulations! Your Dad and I are very _________, but could you try to talk less in class?”

The same was true of our younger daughter. Like her sister, she is a lovely and bright child. She also thinks of the floor of her room as a closet (壁厨) which has often caused me to say, “Yes, that project is great, but _________ up your room!”

What I learned from my mother is to start thinking “and, and, and” instead. For example, “The hockey team won, and Mike did his best the whole game.” “Amy’s the homecoming queen, and she’s going to look perfect!” The fact is that ‘‘but” feels bad, “and” feels good. When our children feel _________ about what they are doing, they do more of it.

This is not to say that children don’t need or won’t pay attention to their parents’ _________. They do and they will. When those wishes are positive (积极的), amazing things happen.

It’s not __________ just to say we love our children. We’re also going to have to start guiding and taking part in what is right with our children.

“No more bus!” is a call for joy. And if I ever forget, I have my mother’s note to remind me.
