25、
The Apple Watch in 2018 is more than just a time-telling wearable watch that can inform you when you have a message and count your calories (卡路里) as you walk around; it’s changing into a kind of medical tool. Not only can it take an ECG (心电图) to possibly detect (察觉) heartbeat, it can also detect if you’ve fallen down, and then call 911.
It’s an advantage that will be helpful to most people. According to a research on aging, more than one-third of elderly people over 65 fall down once a year. If the wearable detects that someone has wiped out, it can call 911 when the person doesn’t respond. For users over 65, Apple automatically (自动地) makes use of this advantage.
To create the system for detecting falls, Apple got their data from real-world and unplanned interactions between humans and the ground. These interactions are all caused by falling down.
To do that, they gathered data from people wearing Apple Watches and receiving medical treatment for their movement in a hospital, and friends and family of Apple employees. That study involved more than 2,500 people and finally included more than 250,000 days of data. The data came from real falls—like a fall off a ladder, a trip on a walk, or just a fall while getting dressed.
“We learned that with falls, there’s this repeatable movement pattern that happens,” Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer, said in September when announcing the advantage. “For example, when you trip, your body will naturally fall forward, and your arms will go out naturally to support yourself. However, if you slip, there’s a natural upward movement of the arms.”
The sensors (传感器) in the watch can measure the flight of your wrist (手腕) through space when a fall is happening.
There’s one part in the watch, which is now more power saving— an important point, since Apple needs it to be powered on to watch for falls carefully throughout the course of the day.
It’s important to know, too, that a call for SOS won’t be made if you don’t have the cellular version (蜂窝网络版本) of the watch and you’re far away from your phone. In other words, if you go for a run and hope that the advantage of the Apple Watch will work, bring your phone with you, too.

26、“Exams will be the death of me,” I can remember thinking in school. I was not a good student. Even when I studied hard (which was not often enough) my grades never seemed to improve. The mid-term exams are over and some of you may also be thinking, “Exams will be the death of me.” You studied hard but... You may think that schoolwork is just too difficult, or even that you just aren’t smart.
But let me tell you: you are smart enough and schoolwork is not too difficult for you! How do I know that? Well, because you have already had a lot of success in school. To be a middle school student, you have already passed many exams. And your English is good because you are reading this article!
In the Chinese school system(体制): Having a good memory usually means good grades. But not everyone has a good memory. The Chinese school system requires that you sit and listen for a long time. But not everyone is good at sitting and listening. The Chinese system is only one “way” of learning. But there are other “ways” which may work better for you.
And, remember many poor students have done better than good students in the “real world”: hey, Bill Gates (比尔·盖茨) was a university dropout (退学者)! Some of us won’t show our potential until later in life! So don’t feel bad if your mid-term results were poor. Mid-term exams are just the middle, not the end. You still have time to improve, and to make changes.

A.You studied hard but you missed the exams.
