24、 World Book Day has arrived! It is celebrated on April 23 in most countries, but in the UK, it is usually in March. This year, our school invited a writer to talk to us about her life as an author.
The author’s name is Jo Cotterill. She is an English author who lives in Oxfordshire with her husband and daughters. She has won many awards for writing books for children and teenagers.
In her speech, Cotterill told us a lot about her childhood, as well as her love for unicorns (独角兽), her previous job as an actress and, of course, her books. She also showed us some of her award-winning books and described their plots (情节) for us. I was fascinated by her book A Library of Lemons. It is a story about a girl, Calypso, whose father stops believing in friendship and love after his wife dies. All he believes in are books – he teaches his daughter to close her heart and only love books as well.
As you can see from the book’s title, Cotterill likes to play with words and invent new titles for her books. In fact, her writing career started with inventive (别出心裁的) titles. She said that sometimes she would read in bed on a Sunday and think about interesting titles for new books. She has another book called A Storm of Strawberries. Do you think this title is creative? I simply loved Cotterill’s talk. It inspired me to take up my pen again and keep writing.

25、 Suzie goes to her art class on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. She always looks forward to those days when she can do creative things all afternoon. She loves making bowls and cups out of clay(粘土).
Last month she learned to put pottery(陶器) into a hot oven(炉子), called a kiln, to make it hard and strong. What Suzie likes best about art is the good feeling she gets when she has finished working on a piece of art. And then when she takes it home to show her parents she feels so proud of what she has made.
On Wednesday Suzie wrote an article about why she thought the school should have two short breaks a day rather than one long break. Lots of her friends thought that this would be a good idea too. Many teachers also agreed with Suzie’s suggestion.
The head teacher of the school asked everyone in the school to vote(表决)on Suzie’s suggestion. During the vote, each person in the school had one vote. Together, the school decided that two short breaks would be better than one long break. All of this happened because Suzie wrote about her idea in the school newspaper.
On the day the newspaper comes out, the first thing Suzie does is to check where her article is in the newspaper. And each month, at the beginning of her article, are the words: By Suzanne Jefferson.
On the way home from school yesterday, Suzie got to think about how much art and writing are the same. In art class she thinks of creative things to make, and then spends a lot of time making it look just right.
And when she writes articles for the school newspaper, she thinks of creative things to say, and then spends a lot of time making it sound just right. And when she has finished writing a really good sentence, she feels almost as if she has made a beautiful piece of art.
Suzie rushed home so she could write something shortly before dinner. She already had lots of ideas for next month’s newspaper. And she wanted to make sure that none of her creative ideas floated away before she wrote them down on paper

26、 At some point in life, many people experience a mental(精神)problem. While most people get over it,for others it doesn't go away easily.
The WHO says that about 20 percent teenagers around the world experience mental illness. It's thought that the number of teenagers with mental illness around the world will increase by half by 2020.It will become one of the main causes of diseases, and even death.
In China, the picture isn't bright, cither. About one tenth of teenagers under the age of 17 have a mental health challenge.
The world is changing fast. Study and relationships have always caused stress, but today the stress is much higher than before, the WHO said.

Elaine Peng, a US mental health educator, makes a similar point. And in the UK, over three quarters of young people believe their mental problems have a social stigma. It is reported in 2017 that a quarter of young UK people wouldn't ask for help if they developed a mental problem.
Young people who don't ask for help for their condition may be creating problems for themselves in the future. Elaine Peng warned that. "If we hide our mental health, it may remain a problem forever."
