24、One day Frank was walking with his mother when they came to a pretty garden. Frank looked in, and saw that it had clean gravel (碎石) walks and beautiful flowers. He called to his mother and said, “Mum, come and look at this pretty garden. I wish I might open the gate, and walk in.” The gardener (园丁) heard what Frank said, and kindly invited him and his mother to come into the garden.
Frank’s mother thanked the man. Then she said to her son, “Frank, if I take you to walk in this garden, you must take care not to meddle (乱动) with anything in it.” Frank walked along the tidy gravel walks, and looked at everything, but touched nothing that he saw. He did not step on any of the borders(草坪边的狭长花坛),and was careful that his clothes should not brush the tops of the flowers so that he might not break them.
The gardener was much pleased(满意的)with Frank, because he was so careful to behave well.He showed him the seeds, and told him the name of many of the flowers and plants.
While Frank was admiring the beauty of a flower, a little boy came to the gate, and finding it locked, he shook it hard. But it would not open. Then he said, “Let me in.Let me in.Will you not let me in this garden?”
“No,” said the gardener, “I will not let you in, Tom.When I let you in yesterday you meddled with my flowers, and pulled some of my fruit. I do not choose to let a boy into my garden who meddles with the plants. ”
Tom looked ashamed, and when he found that the gardener would not let him in, he went away slowly. Frank saw and felt how much happier a boy may be by not meddling with what does not belong to him.

26、How do you feel when your teacher asks you to work on a group project with other students? Do you like to work together with others or work alone?
A PISA (国际学生评估项目) survey was carried out. The survey was about students’ ability to work together in groups. They discovered that students who do well in tests by themselves are also likely to be better at working with other people.
This finding is true for students in many countries. Students in Japan, South Korea, Finland and Canada have high test scores. They also do well in working together to solve problems. But this is not true for every country. Chinese students, who have high scores on their own, don’t perform well in groups.
“One reason might be that Chinese parents and teachers pay too much attention to grades,” said Zhao Zhongxin, former vice president of the Chinese Family Education Association. He also said, “Students have a lot of exam pressure and they regard the school as a place for competition.” “However, collaborative (合作的) skills are very important for students to prepare for today’s society,” he added. “Luckily, more Chinese parents and teachers are realizing the importance of this. Now they are thinking of ways to help students improve this skill.”
Another interesting finding from the PISA survey was that girls are more likely to be better than boys at working together and girls show more active attitudes (态度) towards relationships. That means girls are more willing to listen to others’ opinions. PISA also found that the classroom environment may influence how well students collaborate. In classes where there are a lot of activities that require communication, such as class debates (辩论), students may have better attitudes towards collaborating.
【1】What’s the PISA survey about?
A.The ways to help students work alone.
B.The students’ ability to work with others.
C.The development of students group work.
D.The reasons for students’ interest in working together.

B.They always get higher scores in groups.
C.They do well in working on group projects.
D.They have prepared well for today’s society.

A.They have a better environment.
B.They carry out more activities.
C.It’s easier for them to accept other’s ideas.
D.They meet more problems in daily life.
【4】To improve students’ collaborative skills, what should teachers do in class?
A.Guide students to take up more hobbies.
