二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、We have a strange and strong belief in the idea of perfection. Driven by our culture, we struggle for an unattainable ideal: If I have the perfect parents, perfect grades, perfect…, then I would be happy. We seek what we can’t have without remembering that we don’t actually need to be perfect. Imperfection allows us to be human.

Parents, teachers and other high-achieving peers will have us believe that we must be perfect if we wish to remain competitive. However, what job or school requires you to develop a cure for some form of cancer by the age of 18? Although these grades would be admirable achievements, are they worth losing sleep over? We feel like we need the perfect grades to get into the perfect college that will provide us with the perfect education necessary to obtain the perfect job. Making use of our thirst for perfection, the whole college and career industries have emerged claiming to help us reach our goals.

Truth is, you only need to be good enough to get into the conversation. It is what you do afterwards that sets you apart. Focus more on your passions. Don’t worry about anything secondary to your passions. You don’t become an expert at anything if you spent your time trying to succeed in everything you do. You only become an expert when you devote your time to that one project that truly brings you joy.

As members of this society, we have a responsibility to be excellent in what we do, not perfect. Although perfection can be a goal, it should not be the only goal. We only have 24 hours in a day and seven days in a week. Thus, we need to plan what we want to do and cut out the activities we cannot do.

With everything, though, make sure you’re doing enough. Pursuing your passions is not enough of a reason to completely give up on everything else. Try as hard as you can and let your future worry about itself. Worry about your task at hand and you will be successful in achieving your dreams. Most of all, remember that you’re going to be okay.

【1】It is implied in Paragraph 1 that there is a culture where ________.

    A. Students are driven to learn concepts

    B. great importance is attached to perfection

    C. imperfect people aren’t happy at all

    D. perfect grades result from remembering facts

【2】We can infer from the second paragraph that ________.

    A. a perfect grade is worth losing sleep over

    B. the whole college and career industries are perfect

    C. some schools ask students to invent some medicine

    D. someone is profiting from our search for perfection

【3】According to the author, we should ________.

    A. see becoming perfect as our responsibility

    B. deal with what we hope to do first

    C. set a goal of perfection in our life

    D. worry about our future dreams

【4】What might be the most suitable title for the passage?

    A. How to be perfect

    B. Being enough is enough

    C. Finding your own passions

    D. Giving up your secondary goals

  • 22、   Like all big cities, Paris has a traffic problem: lots of cars, lots of traffic jams (阻塞)and lots of pollution from exhaust fumes (废气).So the city began a scheme (计划)to improve the situation.

Under the Velib scheme “ Velib” comes from velo liberte, or “ bicycle freedom” people can take a bicycle, use it for as long as they want, and then leave it at the same or another bicycle station. The first half-hour on the bike is free, but if you do not return it after 30 minutes , you have to pay. it's only €1 a day or €29 a year! The bicycles are heavy25 kg , and they are all grey and have baskets. There are about 20,000 of them in the city, and around 1,450 bicycle stations. So there are a lot more Velib stations than the 298 subway stations!

Paris is not the first city to have a scheme like this. But not everybody thinks it is a great idea. One Parisian said, "These bicycles are only for short journeys. If people want to travel across the city, they wont use a bicycle - they'll still use their cars."

A city spokesman said, “The bicycle scheme will not settle all our traffic problems, of course. But it might help reduce air pollution. Traffic, together with factory fumes, is a big problem. There are not any simple answers to traffic problems and pollution in cities. But unless we do something now, there will be more traffic jams and temperatures will continue to rise, so the problems in our environment will get worse. The bikes might help people to lead a healthier life, too."

1What can we learn about the Velib scheme?

A.It owns more stations than the subway.

B.It aims to make traveling easier.

C.Its bikes are light and colorful.

    D.Its bikes have no baskets.

2If you use a Velib for one hour, how much should you pay?

    A.€30. B.€30.

    C.€ 29. D.€1.

3Why do some people disagree with the Velib scheme?

A.The cost is rather high. ,

B.It is hard to find a Velib station.

C.It is not suitable for a long journey.

D.The distance between two Velib stations is long.

4What's the city spokesman's attitude towards the bicycle scheme?

    A.Doubtful. B.Positive.

    C.Uncaring. D.Worried.

  • 23、19-year-old Zara Rutherford has made some records after completing a 32,000-mile flying around the world. Landing at Kortrijk-Wevelgem Airport in western Belgium on Thursday, she became the youngest woman, and first Belgian to fly alone around the world—as well as the first person ever to do it in an ultralight (轻型的) aircraft. It took her 155 days.

The previous youngest-ever woman to accomplish the celebrated achievement of flight was American Shaesta Waiz, who also founded a non-profit called Dreams Soar, which Rutherford was supporting on her long journey. A funny twist of fate saw the two globe travelers united on a stopover.

Rutherford made the 41-country crossing to inspire more women and girls into entering other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, but obviously and particularly flight. Remarking on how only 5.1% of pilots are women, she described the occupation last year as “a career where you basically get paid to travel around the world.”

It wasn't all smooth flying for the 160-mph ultralight aircraft, and both extreme weather and visa difficulties took their toll on the plane and the pilot. Originally planned for three months and 52 countries, the route had to be changed due to unscheduled landings such as to avoid wildfires in California, and a denial for crossing permission over Japan.

“I would say the hardest part was definitely flying over Siberia—it was extremely cold. It was minus 35 degrees Celsius on the ground,” Rutherford said when interviewed. "If the engine were to stop, I'd be hours away from rescue and I don't know how long I could have survived for.”

Rutherford was piloting Shark Aero, one of the fastest ultralight aircraft in the world-built by specialists and improved for the standards of flying around the world.

【1】How many records did Zara Rutherford set?

    A.Two.

    B.Three.

    C.Four.

    D.Five.

【2】What do we know about Shaesta Waiz from the text?

A.She has broken Zara Rutiierfbrd's record.

B.She often flew together with Zara Rutherford.

C.She has given Zara Rutherford a lot of support.

D.She is as great a global traveler as Zara Rutherford.

【3】Why did Rutherford start the 32, 000-mile flying?

A.To get paid to travel around the world.

B.To show her support for Shaesta Waiz.

C.To see more places of interest worldwide.

D.To appeal to more females to take up flying.

【4】What can we infer from what Rutherford said?

A.Her journey was dangerous and tough.

B.She failed to fly over Siberia.

C.She was a girl full of imagination.

D.She was proud of her achievement.
