二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、In my eyes, the most basic and powerful way to communicate with another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention. And especially if it’s given from the heart. When people are talking, there’s no need to do anything but receive them. Listen to what they’re saying. Care about it. Most times caring about it is even more important than understanding it. Most of us don’t value ourselves or our love enough to know this. It has taken me a long time to believe in the power of simple saying “I’m so sorry,” when someone is in pain.

One of my patients told me that when she tried to tell her story people often interrupted to tell her that they once had something just like that happening to them. Her pain became a story about themselves. Eventually she stopped talking to most people. We connect through listening. When we interrupt what someone is saying to let them know that we understand,we move the focus of attention to ourselves. When we listen, they know we care.

I have even learned to respond to someone crying by just listening. In the old days I used to reach for the handkerchiefs, until I realized that passing a person a handkerchief  may be just another way to shut him down,to take them out of their experience of sadness. Now I just listen. When they have cried all they need to cry, they find me there with them.

This simple thing has not been that easy to learn. It certainly went against everything I had been taught since I was very young. I thought people listened only because they were too shy to speak or did not know the answer. But now I know that a loving silence often has far more power to heal than the kindest words.

A.she didn’t get enough respect from others

B.people often told her their own opinions

C.people couldn’t understand her sad situation

D.she was discouraged by being often interrupted

【3】If you hand a handkerchief to someone crying, you may________.

A.stop him from letting out his sorrow

    B.make him embarrassed

C.encourage him to continue to cry

    D.hurt his feelings

【4】Which of the following might be the author’s opinion about communication?

    A. Just listen.  B.Keep silent.

C.Be careful. D.Tell your own story.

  • 22、Hello and welcome! My name is Shelley Ann Vernon and I am glad that you want to find out more about teaching English through games. Right here you will find ways to get great results in the classroom for children aged 4 to 12; ways that from my experience will bring more success and joy into the lives of the children you teach.

The games presented here work for ESL (English as a Second Language) pupils aged 4 to 12. These games are most suitable for beginners to intermediate (中级的) students.

Don’t take my word for it; read evidence from teachers and parents:

I found it valuable right away!

Although I only bought your book on Monday, and today is Wednesday, I want you to know how valuable I have found it to be. I have used a couple of the games in school already and the children loved them.

Most importantly, they were learning and reviewing English at the same time. Can I admit that I also enjoyed my lessons more?

    Gila Goldberg, Jerusalem

The games help with learning difficulties!

My daughter Aurore has learning difficulties and since coming to your classes she has gained confidence and has improved in all subjects at school.

  • 23、   If you’ve made a routine of a daily walk, congratulations! You’re getting many benefits of a walk. But there’s one simple mistake that could be putting your life at risk. Almost 129,000 pedestrians were injured, and 5,376 were killed in traffic crashes in the United States in 2015, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC). 1.

Luckily, there are some steps you can take to stay safe on foot. Sure, you drive on the right side of the road in the US, but that’s not where you should be as a pedestrian.2. Walking on a sidewalk can 100% guarantee your safety. But if you have to stay on the road, the CDC recommends walking toward traffic.

Seems like it couldn’t make much difference. 3. Simply walking against traffic instead of with it cut the risk of getting hit by a car by an average of 77%, according to the findings.

    4. Well, if you walk the same direction you’d drive, the cars closest to you are coming from behind. That means you’d need to rely on the driver to see you and react if it’s coming up too closely. If the person behind the wheel is not absorbed, you could end up injured—or worse.

On the other hand, when you’re walking against traffic, you can see the cars heading toward you. Facing those vehicles lets you see danger coming and get out of the way if necessary, and you aren’t putting your life in the hands of every driver who passes.5. Or skip the busy streets entirely and learn to “mall walk” in the long corridors of shopping malls.

    A. If there’s a sidewalk available, you should always use it

    B. Where it is convenient and clear, make sure to take the route

    C. Next time you go for a walk or run, face the traffic and keep watchful

    D. You may be taken aback by such a big difference between the choices

    E. Look backwards and forwards all the time when you walk along the traffic

    F. This means one crash-related pedestrian death every 1.6 hours

    G. But a study of car accidents between 2006 and 2010 would argue otherwise

  • 24、Across the planet there are millions of people who engage in some type of meditation, the practice of concentrating and clearing the mind to bring the body into a state of peace, at least a semi-regular basis. For some, particularly among practitioners of Eastern religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism, this is_______of their religious practice.

For others, particularly in Western cultures, meditation tends to be a response to stress. With the world economy approaching meltdown and people worried about their job or their ability to keep their home, it’s a way for people to attain a state of peace of mind and well-being. For those interested in taking up the practice, instruction in meditation for beginners can be found in literally thousands of sources.

One of the most popular styles of mediation in the West, with classes offered in most major cities, is called Transcendental Meditation. TM, as it is known among its practitioners, first came to worldwide attention when the Beatles began practicing it in 1967. For direct, guided, personal instruction in meditation for the beginner, TM may be the hallmark.

Part of the confusion about how to practice meditation effectively is due to the fact that there are literally hundreds of techniques championed by various groups and individuals. As a general principle, it might be said that all meditation techniques seek to have the practitioner attain a state of consciousness that is different to our ordinary state of awareness. They attempt to train people to clear their minds and achieve a sense of inner peace. It sounds simple enough, but of the huge number of people experiment with meditation, very few are able to maintain its practice over the long haul. In most cases, this is due to frustration over the inability to experience any dramatic, instantly recognizable effects.

This is quite a sad state of affairs, that so few these days are willing or equipped to persist in something that doesn’t provide immediate life-changing results. It reflects a culture in which demands for discipline and sustained effort are considered unnecessary or even unfair. It is no surprise therefore that many people abandon their efforts at meditation before they have a chance to bear fruit.

But for anyone who does decide to take up this worthwhile practice, please remember: You must clear your mind, relax and “take it as it comes”. Maintain the practice with a sense of discipline and devotion, and eventually benefits of inner peace and calm will be yours.

  • 26、阅读下面的短文,按照要求写一篇英语短文。

James Bender, in his book How to Talk Well tells the story of a farmer who grew award-winning corn. Each year he won a blue ribbon. One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew it.

The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors. “How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year?” The reporter asked. “Why,” said the farmer, “didn’t you know? The wind picks up pollen(花粉) from the ripening corn and carries it from field to field. If my neighbors grow bad corn, cross-pollination(异花受粉) will slowly reduce the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbors grow good corn.

He is very much aware of the connectedness of life. His corn cannot improve unless his neighbors’ corn also improves. The lesson for each of us is this: If we are to grow good corn, we must help our neighbors grow good corn.

    要求:

    1. 写作内容:人与人之间本应和睦相处、互帮互助、共同进步;

    2. 以约30个词概括短文的要点;
