二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   “Suzanne Meyer, the assistant director of the English Language Institute at the University of Tennessee, says that many students need to learn how to collect information, and then evaluate the information and apply it to a new context. Meyer says: “1 . Question-asking activities help students to become better language learners. Question-asking may help develop critical thinking skills by allowing for more interactions.2 . When they are confident, they can have more interaction. That extra interaction might lead to critical thinking.”

How can you practice asking questions? There are many strategies to improve question-asking and develop critical thinking skills. 3 .

If students were reading a new text, they would design a series of questions using three different steps. In the first step, students create questions about information in the text that they are reading. In the second step, students create questions about how the information in the text connects to their own life. In the third step, students create questions about abstract ideas – ideas that came up in the questions about themselves.4 .

Practical Tips: Meyer says that when teachers tell students which questions to answer, students are less likely to be creative about the types of questions that they ask. 5 . Try making a list of questions that go from concrete to abstract. Check with your teacher to make sure that your grammar is correct, and try to practice in the classroom.

A.So, practice developing your own questions!

B.People who can ask questions should be very confident.

C.People can ask questions freely when they feel relaxed.

D.If people take some steps, they can find some useful question-asking patterns.

E.There are many benefits to using question-asking activities with English learners.

F.One possible strategy is to use question-asking patterns that start with concrete questions and move to abstract questions.

G.If students follow these three steps, they have not only practiced creative ways to ask questions, they have also started practicing critical thinking.

  • 22、It was her son’s first day of second grade, and April Crites worried, because Conner’s autism(自闭症) sometimes makes him overstimulated (刺激).

8-year-old Conner was waiting for the doors to open at his school on August 14 when he started to cry since the sights and sounds of the first day of school had been stressful for him. Children with autism act differently from one another, with some able to talk while others not, some uncomfortable with noises, and still some having trouble looking other people in the eye.

While Conner stood alone in a corner crying, his classmate Christian had a glance at him, reached over, and held his hand instead of overlooking him like most kids, and that made him feel better.

Christian’s mom, Courtney, happened to take a photo of the act of kindness when Christian walked Conner into their school. She shared the photo and wrote in a Facebook post, “ It is an honor to raise such a loving, compassionate (有同情心的) child! The first day of school started off right.”

When Conner came home that afternoon, he told Crites that he had an easy first day and he liked his classmates and his teacher, without mentioning that he had gotten upset at the start of the day. Crites didn’t know about her son’s interaction (互动) with Christian until she saw the photo in Facebook a few days later.

The boys study in the same class, but they didn ‘ t know each other well. Now Conner and Christian sit together at lunch and play together at breaks. Christian went to the Crites’ house one weekend, and the pair played for a day without an argument, which, Crites said, is unusual for her son.

The Crites family has been touched by the photo. Conner got excited when his classmates told him they saw his picture on TV. According to Crites, her husband, who rarely cries, had tears in his eyes on seeing the photo.

Everyone is struggling with something that might be invisible ( 看不见的) to those around them, which makes it more important to show kindness.

【3】What caused Crites’ husband to cry?

A.He was sad that his son had a terrible first day of school.

B.He was moved by the photo of Christian helping his son.

C.He was afraid that his son would develop autism.

D.He was sorry that his son had no close friends.

【4】Which sentence can summarize the passage?

A.Conner had great difficulty at school because he had no confidence.

  • 23、   Joe Clark was a non-traditional high school president whose unusual way of encouraging his students became the subject of a 1989 Hollywood movie.

“You are not inferior (低人一等)”was what Clark would often tell his students at Eastside High School in Paterson, New Jersey. Many of the Eastside students were African American or Latino. They grew up in a difficult environment. Many of the students who attended the school faced violence, crime, drugs and troubled family life.

Before becoming an educator, Clark served in the US Army. His experience might have influenced how he ran his school. He was known to walk around with a bull horn and a baseball bat. In Clark's first days of working at Eastside High School, he made the decision to expel 300 students for fighting, abusing teachers and drug possession. Clark believed that students had to be shocked often to understand the influences that could prevent them from succeeding in school and in life.

President Ronald Reagan offered Clark a White House policy adviser position after his success at the high school. In 1989, actor Morgan Freeman played Clark in the movie Lean on Me. That movie was based on Clark's experiences at Eastside High School.“Joe was a father figure to school kids,” Freeman said. “He was the best of the best in terms of education.”

Of course, not everyone supported his methods. One teacher, Franklin Hearn, said in 1988 that his methods were more like being in a labor camp than a public high school.

But Thomas McEntyre, one of the 300 students who were kicked out of Eastside High School, said, “I never really got a chance to... thank you. We are your product. You did not fail us. Although you kicked me out, you did not fail me. You bettered me.”

After he retired from Eastside in 1989, Clark wrote a book called Laying Down the Law. He described how he managed to turn Eastside High from a failing school into a success.

【1】What can we learn about Eastside High School?

A.It once belonged to a labor camp.

    B.Many students were not clever.

C.It was a special school for troubled kids.

D.Many students were from problem families.

    A.Sign up.

    B.Search for.

    C.Kick out.

    D.Focus on.

【3】Who plays a role in the movie Lean on Me?

    A.Joe Clark.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Early in 1999, our family had to drive several hundred miles to Billings, Montana, to visit a hospitalized family member. Between our travel, accommodation, and having given most of our available cash to help our relatives out with expenses, we had very little money with us when we left to return home. It was getting dark when we drove out of Billings.

At first, we didn’t notice that our headlights were dimming(变暗), and that was probably why we missed the exit for the interstate(州际公路) leading home. About 40 miles later, we began to see that nothing along the highway was familiar to us. In 35 more miles, we saw an exit to a town that wasn’t anywhere near where we were supposed to be.

With eight miles to the next exit, we began to realize the headlights were dangerously dim. The car began to make a series of short explosive sounds, which made us feel extremely worried. I had to turn off the lights to keep it running. At the foot of the exit slope, there was a small post office in front of us. The car stopped running completely as we pulled into the parking lot.

I soon determined that there was something wrong with the alternator (发电机). It was 7:00 in the evening and we were in Rosebud, Montana, which was a tiny town with no services. To make things worse, the heavy snow was falling. We needed to find our family a safe place to spend the cold night and find an alternator to fix the car the next morning. Hopelessly, we couldn’t see any other buildings around us, and the rest of the town was nearly a mile away. Even if we walked there, we knew that there was probably no hotel or parts store.
