21、 We all feel anxious from time to time. For many, these uncertain times are a contributor to stress and concern. Anxiety is a normal reaction to a stressful situation, but if feelings of anxiety last a long time or keep returning, you might be experiencing an anxiety disorder.
Dave Smithson from Anxiety UK explains that there are three different aspects of anxiety: physical (how you feel), psychological (what you think), and behavioral (what you do). ” Physical symptoms include an increased heart rate or muscle tension, breathing heavily or dizziness. Psychological symptoms include feelings that you might lose control, faint or think people are looking at you and noticing your anxiety. Behavioral aspects include avoiding the situation that makes you feel anxious. “Those who are usually outgoing may become withdrawn, or those who are reserved may become erratic,” he says. “Everyone’s different, and anxiety can be caused by a range of things.”
Stephen Buckley, from mental health charity Mind, says talking to someone you trust can be helpful. If this isn’t possible, you could call a confidential helpline such as Mind’s Infoline, or those run by Anxiety UK and Samaritans.
Learning to relax through breathing exercises and other techniques can help manage anxiety. “Keeping a record of what started the anxiety and what helps it to pass, such as slowing your breathing or getting outdoors for a walk, can help you understand and spot patterns early on,” Stephen says. Relaxation techniques can include exercises to release tension in your body by relaxing your muscles. Drawing calming circles on paper with coloured pencils or pens is a way to distract you from worrying thoughts.
Other recommendations from Mind include connecting with other people. “This is a vital way of maintaining wellbeing” Stephen adds. “Have regular chats with friends and family over the phone. Talking to people in the same boat can be reassuring. Many people find it helpful to share ideas about how to stay well, connect with others and feel less alone.”

A.A strong tendency to avoid meeting people.
B.A temporary decline in thinking ability.

A.By predicting conditions that may cause anxiety.
B.By communicating with people they rely on.
C.By relieving tension through hard work.
D.By maintaining their routine life.
【3】What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To introduce the strategies of dealing with anxiety.
B.To analyze the contributors to mental disorder.
C.To distinguish anxiety from anxiety disorder.

22、 I’ve been teaching college for many years. I’ve long grown used to the torn jeans, slippers, shorts in the dead of the Maine winter, and ball caps worn backward. Still, when one of my students showed up in pajama (睡衣) bottoms, I couldn’t help asking, “Did you just roll out of bed?” He responded: “Five minutes ago.”
I'm familiar with the school of thought that says that how students dress is unrelated, so long as they’re learning. I put it in the same category as “Grammar and spelling don’t matter, so long as they’re expressing themselves”. I wonder about the wisdom of blurring (模糊) the line between bed and desk.
I smile when I think back on the occasions that my parents associated with needing to look respectable. Once, when I was 14 and my brother was 12, my father announced that he was taking us into Manhattan (just a subway ride away) to see the play. My brother and I were excited at the hope, but were shortly discouraged when my father directed us to put on our best clothes, including jackets and ties. “But why?” I begged, not wanting to change out of my comfortable jeans, T-shirt, and sneakers. “Because,” he said, “we’re going to New York.” I can still see the stars in his eyes as he said these words.
So yes, I do want my students to be comfortable. But I also want to pay my respects to those students who believe that appearances count.
I think of the woman — a somewhat older student — I had in class a few years back. She was someone to whom science did not come easily: She worked determinedly for respectable grades on every homework. But I was struck by how tastefully she dressed, day after day.
Once, I said, “You always looked so nice.” Immediately, she answered, “I’ve waited 12 years to return to school, and I dress up to remind myself to be serious about it.”
And, I might add, she seemed perfectly comfortable to me.

A.Ambiguous. B.Supportive.
C.Doubtful. D.Disapproving.

A.They considered personal appearance important.
B.They looked after their children with great care.
C.They often paid a visit to New York.
D.They preferred dressing formally on a subway.
【4】Why did the older student dress tastefully every day?
A.To feel comfortable at class with others.
B.To show her serious attitude towards learning.
C.To impress others with respectable clothes.
D.To hide her embarrassment at poor homework.
23、Occupational Licenses with the Biggest Bang for Buck
Some 1.8 million American were laid off or discharged from their jobs each month on average in 2019, according to data from the U. S. Bureau of Labor statistics. People who lose their jobs often confront a difficult choice: should they take a new job that pays less, or should they make a costly investment in gaining new skills so that they can compete for another similar job or an even better one?
If they do decide on retraining ,which programs and occupational licenses are worth their while? In general, the highest-paying jobs tend to have the most difficult education/ training and experience requirements. But that is not always the case. The following are five occupational licenses with the biggest bang for your buck.
Drone Pilots: If you want to become a drone pilot, all you need to do is be above 16 years old, pass the Federal Aviation Administration's Remote Pilot Certificate exam (which requires about 15 to 20 hours of studying), and pay a $ 150 licensing fee. Pay for drone pilots averages $ 56,426 per year, and jobs are growing rapidly across a range of industries. For example, companies like UPS are making substantial investments in drone delivery and will need to hire thousands of drone pilots in the coming years.
Home Inspectors: If you need a job that makes about $ 60K per year, you might want to consider becoming a Home Inspector. Both Home Inspectors and HVAC Contractors earn about $ 61K per year, on average, but getting a state HVAC Contractor license typically requires about 4,000 hours of training and experience (those systems are becoming even more complex), whereas a Home Inspector license only requires 360 hours of training and experience, and much of the training can be gained free of charge on the job.
Massage Therapists: On average, Manicurists/Pedicurists are required to complete more hours of training than Massage Therapists (700 hours versus 500 hours), but Massage Therapists earn almost twice as much, on average ($54,639 versus $ 32,509).
Radiologic Technologists: Licensing requirements for cosmetologists(美容师)have become so onerous that candidates now need 2,700 hours of training and experience on average. That's not much less than the requirement for becoming a Radiologic or MRI Technologist (3,300 hours), a job which is growing considerably faster than average, is more recession - proof, and pays twice as much ($ 56,162 versus $ 28,608).
Dental Hygienists: Among jobs that require a two-year associate's degree granted by a college or university, some pay substantially more than others. The average state licensing fee for becoming a Dental Hygienist is a hefty $ 1,600, but the pay bump you'll receive will likely make up for it ten times over in the first year.
【1】The underlined expression "the biggest bang for your buck" in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.
A.the job loss for your hesitation to invest
B.a good income resulting from your skills
C.a good return for the money you have spent
D.the great efforts you'd make to change your life.
【2】Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?
A.Among the drone operators, those who work for delivery services can earn the most.
B.Compared to a home inspector, being an HVAC Contractor is more cost-effective.
C.As an MRI technologist, you'd be less likely to be jobless during an economic crisis.
D.Higher education isn't a compulsory requirement if you want to be a dental hygienist.

24、 Even if you’ve never been to Phoenix, you know this about the place: It’s hot. But that doesn't stop hikers from attempting the 1.3-mile trek (跋涉) to the top of the city’s famed Camelback Mountain. Signs warn that the trail is “extremely difficult”. If you continue, a posted checklist suggests at least a liter of water per person. And if you keep climbing, another sign farther up declares; “If you’re halfway through your water turn around!”
Unfortunately, many people do not pay attention to the warnings. Fortunately, Scott Cullymore does. The 53-year-old man hikes up and down Camelback a couple of times a day giving out cold bottles of water to worn-out hikers. He has helped so many hikers that he has earned a heavenly nickname: the Water Angel. I’d like a more manly name, but, you know, he told azfamily, com.
Cullymore was on Camelback Mountain one day in 2015 when a British tourist died after being lost for nearly six hours in the July heat. That experience inspired him to start helping people caught unaware by Arizona’s unforgiving version of Mother Nature. “They underestimate the mountain, and they overestimate what they can do, and they get themselves in trouble,” he told the Arizona Republic. If a hiker has a red face and is not sweating anymore, Cullymore reaches into his insulated (隔热的) backpack, pulls out a frosty bottle, and hands it to the person. “It’s misleading that we’re in the middle of the city. You can die up here, and no one would know.”
One hiker who received Cullymore’s water agrees. “You think you know the heat, but then you get out here in the desert and it surrounds you like a blanket,” he said, pointing to Cullymore, “but we are lucky, we run into this good man here.” And with that, the Water Angel goes in search of another hiker in need.
【1】What is the purpose of the signs along the hike way?
A.To show the trek is difficult. B.To warn hikers to take enough water.
C.To frighten people to give up. D.To avoid hikers getting lost.
【2】What does Scott Cullymone think of his nickname?

C.Anyone in need of water. D.Those who sweat a lot.
【4】What can be the best title of this text?
