Through TV, kids can explore places, animals, or things that they couldn’t see in other ways.

★Kids can build analytical (分析的) skills by discussing movies on TV.

What do you think will happen next? Who did it? What will the result be? Asking these questions when you watch TV with your children will help them learn to think, and solve problems. It will make TV viewing a more active experience.

  • 26、Dr. Reyes Guana is the superintendent (负责人) of Byron Union School District in Northern California, USA. He has a big title now, but Guana never forgets his beginnings.

Guana was born in a poor Mexican family with eight children. His parents always had two jobs to make ends meet. As a boy, Guana was very quiet in school. He had a good relationship with the school cleaner. He called her “Nike” because she wore Nike shoes. The boy liked how Nike made everything clean. He told her he liked her job. “Whatever you want to do, make sure you go to college,” Nike said.

Guana also looked up to the school headmaster, who was tall and friendly. The school headmaster said that his job was to help the students and teachers. “When I grow up, I want to do what you’re doing,” Guana said. “Well, if you stick to your dream, you’ll get there,” the headmaster replied.

And Guana did get there. But it was really a long journey. At first, he followed in Nike’s footsteps and was cleaning schools. He worked at three schools in order to make enough money to pay for his college education. He held that job for four years and then worked his way up to being a school safety monitor (监督员). After that, he worked as a teacher for a few years. And in 2019, he became a superintendent.

  • 27、① Many people believe that toys are mainly made for kids. When we grow up, we should put away such childish things.

②But now many grown-ups are getting them out again.

③ According to data from the market research firm NPD Group, toys bought by people over the age of 12 account for 23 percent of the European market. Among them, adults are still the main force. In 2019, Beijing’s Toy Show attracted tens of thousands of visitors, including many grown-ups.

④But why are adults interested in these seemingly “childish” things?

⑤Toys can “bring back happy childhood memories”, noted website SWNS Digital. Many adults are under a lot of pressure at home and at work. Items that they were familiar with in childhood can remind them of easier times.

⑥Rob Willner, 25, is one such person who finds solace in items from the past. At his home in London, he keeps two boxes of loose childhood Lego tucked away under a bed, as well as various large “sentimental” models on shelves in his house.

⑦When he comes home after a hard day, he often plays with the toys. “It reminds me of the playful side of life, but also helps me to keep perspective. Lego isn’t great, but it’s fun, and helps you to think about what’s really important,” he told The Telegraph.

⑧ There is another reason for the rise in popularity of toys among adults. This pastime offers pressure-free creativity. Even hobbies such as baking and painting can be shadowed by the worry that the results will fail to please other people. Dressing up a doll or playing with a model train set doesn’t come with a lot of pressure to please others.

⑨ It seems that adults are no longer taking their childhood freedom for granted. After all, just as UK artist David Hockney said, “Play is serious.”

【1】Why are toys popular among adults according to website SWNS Digital?

A.They don’t want to grow up at all.

B.Playing helps develop and improve social sill.

C.They want to get along well with their kids.

D.Toys can bring back positive memories.

【2】How does Rob Willner benefit from playing with toys after work?

A.It makes him more creative at work.

B.It helps him realize important things in life.

C.It makes him think more about the past.

D.It helps him connect with other people.

【3】What does Paragraph 8 mainly talk about?

A.The rising pressure to please others that adults face.

B.How playing with toys can increase creativity at work.

C.Another reason why adults love to play with toys.

D.The reason why young people don’t cook nowadays.

【4】The best title for the passage may be ________.

    A.Remaining a Kid at Heart

    B.Let’s Put Away Childish Toys

C.How to Go Back to Childhood

D.Adults Are Under Lots of Pressure

How to keep in touch with your kids when you' re busy or far away is a dilemma (两难的问题) many fathers have. Men like to focus special attention on one thing for a long period, but this can lead to trouble. Moving from work to family isn' t always an easy thing. And if you don' t 【3】 s your kids that you're thinking about them, they may think that you don' t care.

As I started down the road, I suddenly stopped  to 【4】 t   back to my house and wrote a short message on a【5】 c   of cards to each of my children. I put each in a " secret" place where I knew they'd find it.

When I called the next night, they both said excitedly," Daddy, I got your card. When did you do that?"

I was moved when I heard these words. What I had never thought was that a small thing had a big influence on my kids. It proved(证明) that they were in my 【6】 h   . And distance (距离) couldn' t separate them from their 【7】f . To my satisfaction, they feel "love" of their father. This 【8】 v experience encouraged me to continue to do the small things to be a responsible father.

As fathers get much busier and have to work longer hours, they usually pay 【9】l   attention to the small things. Don' t miss the good chances to let your kids see how important they are.

Take a moment to do a small thing for your kids. It won' t 【10】 s small to them.
