24、When you and your friends ever talk about your dreams, you might have noticed something interesting—some of your friends rarely remember their dreams, but some can always describe their dreams very clearly. What makes those people different?
Well, there are two different types of dreamers—low dream recallers(回忆者)and high dream recallers.
Low dream recallers usually remember their dreams only twice a month. But high dream recallers are able to remember them about five mornings a week. And a new study suggests that activity in a certain part of the brain could have something to do with it.
Perrine Ruby, a French researcher, studied 41 people(21 high dream recallers and 20 low dream recallers)and recorded(记录)their brain activity.
She found that a part of the brain called the temporo-parietal junction(颞顶联合区)was more active in high dream recallers than in low dream recallers—both when they were sleeping and awake.
This brain area collects and processes information from the outside world. This means that high dream recallers know more about what’s happening around them. For example, when they are awake, they respond(反应)more strongly to hearing their own names, and when they are sleeping, they are woken more easily by sounds and movements.
By closely studying people’s brain activities, Ruby found that high dream recallers have twice as much “wakefulness time” during sleep as low dream recallers do. And it is during these short times of wakefulness that the brain memorizes dreams.
“The sleeping brain is not able to memorize new information,” Ruby told The Washington Post. “It needs to wake up to be able to do that. “This is not hard to understand. Just try to think of your own sleeping experiences. If you are restless (不安的)during the night, you are more likely to remember your dreams. If you sleep well, you will remember little in the morning, and this is because you never get a chance to remember,” Robert Stickgold, a Harvard Medical School researcher, told The Washington Post.

25、I started using a wheelchair (轮椅) when I was a little kid. In primary school, I never felt different or alone. I did many activities. I even performed dances in my wheelchair and won prizes. However, in my heart I still hoped that I could walk like other kids.
One day my parents told me that an operation (手术) might help realize my dream. When I went into the operating room, I was hopeful. I closed my eyes, and the world changed around me. After my operation, I was in so much pain that I got really upset. I even wanted to give up my lifelong dream — walking.
Later I went to an inpatient rehabilitation center (住院病人康复中心), along with my mom. At first, I didn’t like it there. My life was like a river that never stops, with all kinds of rehabilitation exercises and doctor visits. There was so much I couldn’t do, like playing at the nearby playground when my dad and brother visited. And it was hard to make friends. As my body healed, things began to improve.
Recently, I’ve made big progress, like being able to stand for five minutes. I feel hopeful again and am dreaming big — I want to be a role model (榜样) for disabled kids to follow. I also joined in the Just Say Hi, an activity to encourage everyone not to be afraid to say hello to disabled people.
This experience has changed me a lot. It made me as strong as diamonds (钻石) and my dreams as high as Qomolangma. Here I just want to use my story to share the following message: stay strong, never give up, and if you can dream it, you can do it.

26、Linda wanted to make some money, so she tried to think of a good money-making plan. “I know!” she suddenly said. “I’ll offer my services as a dogsitter (照看狗的人). I can take dogs for walks when their owners are too busy!”
It was a very good idea, because everyone in the street knew how kind Linda was to animals. In no time, she found herself taking care of three dogs, all looking forward to a day of fun. She decided to take them out, so they could work off some of their energy. She was careful to avoid the garden. She didn’t want them to walk over her plants! “We’ll go to the shops,” she said to her three doggy friends. So off she set with Ben, Simba and Pongo. The three pulled so hard on their leads (牵狗绳) that Linda felt as if she was being pulled along on ice!
Linda tried to stop to look in a shop window, but the dogs had other ideas. Ben wound (绕) his lead round Linda’s feet and before she knew it, she had landed on the ground. “Ouch!” said Linda. “OK, let’s forget the shopping before we get into worse trouble.” Just then, Simba caught sight of a cat on the other side of the street. Immediately, he jumped toward it at top speed. Linda just had time to hold on to a tree before she was pulled over by Simba.
“That was close!” said Linda. As she was getting her breath back, a mother and her little boy in a pushchair passed them. The boy was having an ice cream. Pongo reached his tongue (舌头) out and in a second, the ice cream had disappeared. Linda turned to the mother, “I’m really so sorry. Let me buy your son another ice cream.”
