  • 24、Children today would rather (宁愿) read, do housework or even do homework than play outside--- and they get out half as much as their parents did when they were young.

    According to a UK study, those growing up during the 1970s and 1980s enjoying more than two hours of outdoor activities each weekday, and nine hours on weekends—whatever the weather is. But their children play outside for just over one hour each weekday and fewer than five hours on Saturdays and Sundays.

    So, the UK started an activity to encourage children to give up 30 minutes of screen time a day to play outdoors.

    The Wild Network, born on September 25, 2013, is joined by more than 300 organizations large and small. It tries to attract (吸引) children away from television and computer screen and into woods(树林) and parks.

    It is the biggest ever activity to reconnect(再连接) children with nature and outdoor activities, and it plans to help improve children's health.

  • 26、A few years ago, I went through a period of such serious depression that life didn’t seem worth living. It was like always in winter, so icy and so cold that the sun would never shine.

    Then I saw green shoots pushing through the freezing, hard ground. I looked them every day until I felt that if they could come back to life, then so could I. Those green shoots gave me hope.     Of course, fresh air and exercise help to reduce depression, but for me, as well as hope.

    At the end of the first gardening season, I stood before a huge and strong tree. It lived through freezing temperatures and strong winds. It bent but never broke. The leaves dropped until look like nothing more than a skeleton, but it always, hope can help us get through them.
