四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、The world is a greener place today than it was 20 years ago. How does this happen? Well, it appears China is leading the change. The tree-planting programs in China have made huge contributions to the global greening.

Taking a bus or subway, making payments online, or just walking—these daily activities can help turn China’s deserts into forests if you are using Ant Forest. It was launched by Ant Financial Services Group.

Ant Forest is a feature in the Alipay mobile payment app. It records users’ low-carbon activities—taking a bus to work instead of driving, for example —and gives users “green energy” when the users’ green energy gets high enough. Ant Forest and its partners will plant a real tree for the user.

Ant Forest recently received the 2019 Champions of the Earth award, the UN’s highest environmental honor, for encouraging people to live greener lifestyles and protect the environment.

About half a billion people have used Ant Forest since it came out in August 2016. Ant Forest and its partners have planted about 122 million trees in China’s driest areas, including parts of Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Qinghai and Shanxi. The trees cover a total area of 112,000 hectares (公顷). This makes Ant Forest China’s largest tree-planting project started by a private (私人的) company. Ant Forest shows us how we can use technology to solve environmental problems.

This is only part of China’s efforts to make Earth greener. In 1978, China began a national-level forestation project—the “Great Green Wall”. The program has seen trees planted in northern China to act as windbreaks (防风林). China is one of the most successful countries in greening the desert and has lessons to share with the world.

① taking a bus ② paying bills online ③ walking ④ planting trees ⑤ introducing apps

Do you like listening to music? Does all of the music bring happiness to you? Do you know some music is noise? What is noise? Noise is a loud or unwanted sound. It is also called noise pollution.

Where is noise from? Noise can be caused by many kinds of machines, such as motorcycles, planes, farm tractors and TVs. And, to some people, rock bands are also noise.

  • 27、Jim suffered heart problems. In conversation he expressed little joy and it seemed that his life was drawing to a close.

When his heart problems led to operation, Jim went through it successfully, and a full recovery was expected. Within days, however, his heart was not beating properly. Jim was rushed back to operation, but nothing was found to explain the cause of his illness. He died on the operating table on the day before his 48th birthday.

Dr. Bruce Smoller, a psychologist (心理学家), had had many conversations with him, and the more he learned, the stranger he realized Jim's case was. When Jim was a child, his father, a teacher, suffered a heart attack and stayed home to recover. One morning Jim asked his father to look over his homework, promising to come home from school at noon to pick it up. His father agreed, but when Jim returned his father had died. Jim's father was 48.

"I think all his life Jim believed he killed his father," Dr. Smoller says. "He felt that if he had not asked him to look at his homework, his father would have lived. Jim had been troubled by the idea. The operation was the trial (判决) he had expected for forty years. " Smoller believes that Jim willed himself not to live to the age of 48.

Jim's case shows the powerful role that attitude (态度) plays in physical health, and that childhood experiences produce far-reaching effect on the health of grown-ups. Although most cases are less direct than Jim's, studies show that childhood events, besides genes, may well cause such midlife diseases as cancer, heart disease and mental illness.

【1】 Jim was sent back to operation because ________.

    A. his heart didn't work well

    B. he expected a full recovery

    C. his life was drawing to a close

    D. the first one wasn't well performed

【2】 What made Dr. Smoller feel strange about Jim's case?

    A. Jim died at a young age.

    B. Jim died on the operating table.

    C. Both Jim and his father died of the same disease.

    D. Jim's death is closely connected with his father's.

【3】 From Smoller’s words, we can infer that ________.

    A. Jim's father cared little about his study

    B. Smoller agreed that Jim did kill his father

    C. Jim thought he would be punished some day

    D. Smoller believed Jim wouldn't live to the age of 48

【4】 Which of the following could have strong effect on one's physical healthaccording to the text?

    a. One’s genes.

    b. One’s life in childhood.

    c. One’s physical education.

    d. The date of one’s birthday.

    e. The opinions one has about something.
