四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、For me, one of the greatest pleasures in life is going to watch a great film at the cinema. It’s a chance for me to get away from real life. There’s nothing better than being lost in a story unless, of course, someone decides to break down the moment.

Whether at a cinema or a huge theater, someone usually decides to treat the place like their own home! There is an accepted way of behaving at the cinema which some people don’t seem to understand.

To start with, some people always turn up late, causing you to rise from your seat to allow them to go past. Then, when you want to enjoy the surround-sound effects, someone begins to enjoy their drinks and popcorn and thus makes a lot of noises. And what I can’t stand most is people who decide to chat to their friends, sometimes not even about the film.

I’m not alone in this situation. Simon Mayo, a film critic (评论家) at the BBC, experienced a “new low” during a film. He says, “The woman in front of me got a mirror out, then her boyfriend got a phone out and used the light on it to allow her to do her make-up!”

Simon has helped to create a list of rules on how moviegoers should behave at the cinema. One of them is no use of mobile phones, and another is not to take your shoes off—a most serious offence (冒犯).

Of course, when we have paid for a ticket, we feel it is our right to relax and enjoy the film in the way we want to, but we mustn’t forget our fellow moviegoers who want to enjoy the cinematic experience, too.

The best choice for anyone wanting to break the rules of cinema manners is to get a DVD and watch it at home. But we all know that the best way to enjoy the art of cinematography is on the big screen. It’s your choice!

What about you? What annoys you about other people at the cinema?

【1】Why does the writer enjoy going to the cinema?

A.It makes him feel like being at home.

B.It gives him a moment to stay away from real life.

C.He prefers watching the films on big screens.

D.He wants to enjoy the cinematic experience.

    A.Chatting to their friends.

    B.Turning up late.

    D.Having drinks.

【3】What is considered by Simon to be the rudest at a cinema?

    A.Using mobile phones.

    B.Chatting to their friends.

    C.Taking the shoes off.

【4】Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?

    A.Popular Cinemas

    B.A Serious Problem

    C.Cinema Manners

    D.An Unpleasant Experience

  • 26、Nineteen-year-old Sydni Dion Bennett has been taking part in beauty pageants (选美比赛) for five years.

She won Miss Illinois Teen USA at 14. But as an African-American, she often finds it difficult to find the right shoes for the competitions. “In pageants, there’s usually a pair of common nude-colored shoes and everyone wears the shoes. But it’s only in one color and doesn’t match my skin,” Bennett said. “To me, it was just kind of like. Why are the shoes only in one color?”

For years, Bennett has had to paint her shoes to match her darker skin. She decided to change the situation and help others with different skin colors. In 2019, Bennett started a business called Diverse Style. It sells four styles of shoes that come in three colors: cashew, cinnamon and black. “My hope was that people like me wouldn’t have to paint their shoes,” Bennett said. Breanna Myles, a Diverse Style customer, 17, has been competing in pageants for five years. Before buying Diverse Style shoes, Myles wore a lighter nude heel while competing, but the shoes didn’t match her skin color. “I think that it’s so amazing that Bennett made this for nearly everyone, not just for lighter skin tones or darker skin tones, but for a lot of skin tones because really there is no true nude,” Myles said.

Bennett wants her business to grow even more. “I want to bring more colors into it and be able to produce more designs that people want to wear on pageant stages or in everyday life,” she said.

【1】What problem did Bennett have with the pageants?

A.She was never able to win them.

B.She couldn’t find clothes that could fit her.

C.African-American girls had no chance of winning them.

D.The nude-colored shoes didn’t match her darker skin.

【2】Which of the following is NOT a shoe color offered by Diverse Style?

    A.Nude.

    B.Cashew.

    C.Cinnamon.

    D.Black.

【3】What does the underlined word “others” in Paragraph 3 refer to ?

    A.Other shoes

    B.Other girls

    C.Other countries

    D.Other companies

【4】What did Myles do in the past pageants?

    A.She painted her shoes dark.

B.She wore a lighter nude heel.

    D.She wore darker shoes.

  • 27、Reality TV is a type of programme. It means that real-life people, not actors, are followed and filmed in a real situation, or game.

Reality TV is very popular in the UK. At their best, these programmes give us a good look into the lives of different people in Britain. At their worse, they are a very cheap way to make programmes and sometimes involve people behaving very badly.

Here’s a selection of some of the UK’s reality shows.

    Shattered

A group of young people live in a house for a week and must stay awake. Each day there are tests to see how well they can work even though they are totally tired out. They must leave the house if they fall asleep. Viewers (观众) vote on those who stay in the house and text their comments (评论) every day.

    Come to Dine with Me

Each week four people prepare dinner in their homes for the other competitors.   Each competitor then gives the cook a grade out of 10 for the food and entertainment (娱乐). The winner gets a $1,000 cash prize. Sometimes the food is terrible and the competitors are very rude to each other.

    World’s Strictest Parents

Badly-behaved British teens are sent abroad to live with a super strict family for a week. The teenagers have to follow the rules of their host family and go to the local school. After seven days the teenagers return home and their parents tell us if their behavior is better. There is often a lot of crying and shouting in this show but it can be pretty funny too.

【1】Which statement is NOT true about Reality TV?

    A.Real-life people are in it.

B.We can see a real situation in it.

C.It usually costs less money to make Reality TV.

D.Reality TV is not very popular in the UK.

【2】You will have to leave Shattered if ______.

A.you are too tired to sleep

    B.you fall sleep

    C.the viewers dislike you

D.you can’t get on well with others

【3】What do we know about Come to Dine with Me?

    A.It’s broadcast once a week.

B.Competitors usually don’t have good behavior.

C.Competitors taste the food and give it a grade.

D.There are altogether four people in the program each time.

【4】What can’t we infer from the last paragraph?

A.The host parents are too strict with the teens.

B.Some teens dislike their host family’s rules.

C.Some teens wouldn’t like to live with their host family.

D.Badly-behaved teens can behave better after a week with a super strict family.
