二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   The Caballero family from Tempe, Arizona were outside on their regularly scheduled walk with their dog named Olive when they were joined by a tiny baby gray fox. Now, the fox mistook Olive for her mother and started following them around the neighborhood.

The fox was about 20 centimeters in length and had a gray coat. They later found out that she was just 6 weeks old at that point. The tiny fox followed them home, where the sprinklers (洒水器) were on at that moment, so she ran to have a drink, which is when Rosalyn noticed how thirsty she was as she couldn’t stop drinking.

Considering that the fox was far away from home and her mother, alone—something that is not common among foxes, the family decided it would be best to get in touch with Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center for help.

They found a box and caught the baby fox so that she wouldn’t wander off into danger. They got the fox inside the box without touching her. The kids were quick to name her Foxy.

The fox was soon brought to the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center. She was first fed using syringes (注射器), but now has learned how to eat on her own from a bowl. “She appears to be doing quite well. She was a little dehydrated (脱水) when we got her, but otherwise healthy. She was already eating solid food. so we’ve managed to fatten her up a bit in the short time she’s been at Southwest Wildlife. She’s likely to grow up into a strong, healthy girl,” explained Jim Mitchell of the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center.

Foxy is now in good hands, being taken care of. They are hoping to connect Foxy with some of the other foxes that came to the center recently to be released to the wild once they are strong enough.

1Why did the little fox follow the family?

A.The little fox knew the family well.

    B.The family had much food.

C.The fox thought Oliver was her mother.

D.Oliver took her mother away by mistake.

2What is the common behavior (行为) of foxes?

    A.Getting lost easily. B.Living together.

    C.Drinking a lot. D.Not fearing people.

3What does “they” refer to in the last paragraph?

    A.The foxes. B.The Caballero family.

C.The animal lovers. D.The center workers.

4What can we infer from the passage?

A.The Caballero family are kind and caring.

B.The family didn’t get along well with the little fox.

C.Foxy is still weak in The Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center.

D.The little fox can return to the wild at present.

  • 27、Shamarr Allen was taking a rest at home one evening last July when he was shocked by the TV news. There had been a gunshot among a group of children in the 7th Ward of New Orleans only a few miles from Allen's home, and a nine-year-old boy named Bryant suffered from severe injury. Allen was horrified and heartbroken. He thought of his own nine-year-old son.

Originally from the city's poor region, Lower 9th Ward, Allen is one of the most celebrated jazz trumpeter(小号吹奏者) in his city. His band, Shamarr Allen & the Underdawgs, has released three albums, and he often appears on local television and works as a street performer. After seeing the heartbreaking news that morning, it didn't take long for Allen to come up with a possible antidote. He had a few spare trumpets lying around. Maybe he could offer them to kids in exchange for their guns.

Allen named the program My Trumpet is My Weapon---after all, it was something of a personal principle. He met with the New Orleans mayor to figure out how to make children feel safe coming forward with their guns, and the chief of police agreed to take apart everything Allen collected.

“Just to see that they actually want to give up their guns, that’s the cool part about it.” says Allen, who has collected seven guns so far, a small but symbolically important start.

But he doesn’t stop with the exchange of gun for instrument. After the exchanges, Allen connects the children with local musicians who give them free virtual trumpet lessons. He also started a GofundMe page to buy more instruments to give away. So far, he has collected over $45,000. More importantly, he has brought hope for his city and young people looking for a better life.

“I just say, 'Look, I come from where you come from, and I can show you the way that got me out,” says Allen. “and music may not be the way for you, but it will at least open your mind to see what's out there.”

【1】Why did Allen feel shocked and sad?

A.A gang shot at Allen's home.

B.A crowd of children hurt Allen's son.

C.Allen's album was not popular in his city.

D.A boy was seriously injured because of shooting.

    A.Question.

    B.Solution.

A.To teach children to learn trumpet.

B.To destroy the guns in the community.

C.To donate musical instruments for poor children.

D.To provide hope for children with the help of music.

【4】Which of the following best describes Allen in the passage?

    A.Ambitious but demanding.

    B.Strict but generous.

    C.Caring and creative.

    D.Wealthy and curious.
