26、How to prepare for exams?
Here are some tips you can read with your child.
The first step in preparing for examinations is to set a fixed time each day to study and a schedule to say when to start the revision and for which subject. The plan should include how many chapters to revise and how many worksheets (活页练习题) to work on. 【1】. Parents who do not know the examination schedule can search “exam timetable” to see the official examination schedule.
【2】.
The second thing is to decide on the place to study. Some need total silence in a library before they can concentrate while others like to have some background music like in the cafeteria, 【3】 . So there is no need to tell your child to change the study place if he is producing the desired results.
【4】. For lessons, pupils must participate in lessons and discussions actively. For exercise, work on the simple ones in the textbook. For theory, pupils can use the mind map method to summarize the facts.
At last, be smart. Focus on chapters that are the core of the subject or difficult chapters.【5】.
A.Next the most effective way to revise is to use an active approach.
B.Making good preparations counts.
C.The mind map can help you a lot in your revision work.
D.Your child has to be self-disciplined (自律的) to follow the plan.
E.It is not necessary to read from the first to the last page.
F.The best time to start revision is one or two months before the examination.
G.Both are alright as long as your child is comfortable with it.
27、Stress (压力) can come from all directions. 【1】 Rather than only looking for ways to change the stress-filled situations, look for stress that can work for you. These methods are suggestions to make stress work in your favor (对你有利).
【2】 Colors of the walls, floor coverings, and furniture can reduce stress. Cooling greens and blues are positive colors that can reduce stress and create a sense of well-being.
Choose friends carefully. Your choice of friends can be the key to stress reduction (减压). Friends should be people who help us to increase our strengths and create solutions to stressful situations. 【3】
Stop and look at yourself. Take time to recognize signs of stress like anger, work and sleep habits. As you become aware (有意识的) of these signs, you are beginning to identify how to make stress work.
【4】 We can accept what we cannot change by changing what we can. Make choices that are realistic (实际的), not out of reach.
Don’t say yes to everything. Recognize what your strengths are and focus on taking the time to do a project built on them. Taking on too many projects results in loss of control and creates stress.
Have a sense of humor. 【5】 And laughing creates less wrinkles (皱纹) than worrying.
A.We live in a stress-filled world.
B.Leave time for the unexpected.
C.Accept what cannot be changed.
D.Create environments that reduce stress.
E.They support us and make us feel that we are not alone.
F.Laughing at oneself can drive away hidden stress from the inside

28、Computers have many uses today. Computers can solve difficult problems and control other machines. Many people use small computers called calculators (计算器) to solve simple maths problems quickly. Scientists use large computers to solve many problems at the same time. You can play games with computers, and some computers can help you learn languages. The Kurzweil Reading Machine is a special kind of computer. It can read books for blind people.
To use the Kurzweil machine, a blind person can simply open the book and put it down on the scanner(扫描仪). The machine “reads” the words on the page. When one page is finished, the blind person turns the page and puts the book on the scanner again. The Kurzweil machine can read in a normal voice or in a special fast voice. It can read words with small letters and large letters.
Blind people like the Kurzweil machine because they can “read” anything with it: newspapers, magazines, books, even typed letters. Many libraries now have Kurzweil Machine for blind people to use. The Kurzweil machine can also help short-sighted children learn to read.
【1】What does the first paragraph mainly tell us?
A. Uses of computers. B. The development of computers.
C. Computer languages. D. The Kurzweil Reading Machine.

B. Large computers can only solve one problem at a time.

29、I recently had an experience. I was a little too hard on one of my players. It turns out this is his first year playing baseball. He’s played other sports and is clearly athletic. He’s also very coachable. In fact, however, I got on him for not running out a ball he hit. Technically, I was right to correct the behavior—we expect our players to run hard to first every time. However, the manner in which 1 corrected him wasn’t suitable for the player. This showed to me an insight (洞察力) about coaching youth sports: coaches should know their players and motivate (激发) them.
It is the coach’s responsibility to get to know their players and understand what motivates them. Children are not all motivated the same way. If the coach only has one motivational tool in their toolbox, e.g. the carrot-and-stick way of rewarding good behavior and punishing bad, they will struggle to reach all of their players. Some will react to that type of motivation, but others will not. As Drs. Laura Smith and Charles Elliott say in Child Psychology and Development for Dummies: “What’s rewarding for one child may not be for another”.
In this particular example, I should have realized that this athlete was playing baseball for the first time and there are some things that he hasn’t already known. It’s my job to teach him—and to do so in the best way to make sure that he picks it up. I should expect other players with more experience to know about running the ball out no matter how hard the hit is or whether they think it might be foul (犯规的). But, for a first-time player, this isn’t second nature yet. I’ve found some ways.
【1】What does the underlined phrase “got on” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Excused.
B.Misunderstood.
C.Punished.
D.Encouraged.
【2】What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A.Youth athletes are the promising generation in sports.
B.Try to be a good baseball player before being a coach.
C.Coaching methods have a great influence on the athletes. .
D.More than one way is needed to motivate different youth athletes.
【3】What is the author likely to write about after the last paragraph?
A.The nature of youth athletes.
B.The ways to coach first-time athletes.
C.The rules of playing baseball.
D.The benefits of being a baseball coach.
【4】What does the author’s experience tell us?
A.Actions speak louder than words.
