27、 All networks like 3G and 4G will be things of the past, because 5G will be reachable in the near future. So, what’s so special about a 5G future? First, its download speed can be as fast as 20GB/s, which is 100 to 200 times that of 4G. But what’s more impressive is 5G’s low delay rate. Now 4G takes 200 milliseconds to send and receive information. But 5G will get it down to 1 millisecond.
5G is going to change the way equipment connects to the Internet. And self-driving cars may be one of the biggest breakthroughs to come out of 5G. The self-driving car under 5G network could react to hundreds of cars around it within 1 millisecond. It’ll prevent car accidents and end traffic jams completely.
5G can benefit us in other ways. Operations could be performed by robots controlled by experts from the other side of the world. Factories can be staffed by robots that can communicate their tasks to each other, and they can do more work over a 5G network. Imagine a group of drones(无人机) flying over a field of crops. Then farmers won’t have to work so hard anymore.
But, 5G is not perfect. One major shortcoming has to do with why it’s so fast. 5G uses the millimeter waves, while 4G uses the 15 to 40 centimeter-long waves. And shorter waves go fast but not very far. On 4G networks, the signal can go 10 kilometers. But the 5G signal can go at most 300 meters, and it can’t even go through walls or rain.
【1】How does the author show us 5G’s advantages in Paragraph I?
A.By giving examples of the uses of 5G.
B.By making comparisons between 4G and 5G.

28、Poaching (偷猎) is the leading threat to many of Africa’s species. It is reported that over the last ten years, a $23 billion global black market for illegal wildlife products has formed, and then the problem has turned into a race against extinction.
This new challenge means that new methods are needed. Luckily, WWF has been able to start the Wildlife Grime Technology Project (WCTP) to explore technological solutions to poaching. Through the WCTP, WWF set out to create an umbrella of technology tools to support rangers (护林人) in their anti-poaching efforts. A number of technologies have been tested over the years with different degrees of success, among which the thermal camera (热传感相机) has won its fame.
Poachers primarily operate at night under cover of darkness, getting into parks and reserves without being noticed. Some are killing wildlife for personal profit, while others are armed and backed by organized crime. Often equipped with little more than flashlights, government and community rangers have no chance of stopping them.
But what if park rangers could see in the dark? In an attempt to find a technology that can help rangers “see” at night, the WCTP identified thermal cameras as a solution. The technology has completely changed the way rangers operate at night. Since they began to use the camera in 2016, the reserve of Lake Nakuru has not had any elephants poached over the past 6 years. In Kenya’s 580-square-mile Maasai Mara National Reserve, long-range thermal cameras mounted on ranging vehicles allowed rangers to set up mobile outposts where poachers may appear. Since 2016, Mara Conservancy rangers have caught more than 300 poachers with the help of the camera.
【1】What challenge are wildlife species faced with due to poaching?
A.They are losing their natural habitats.
B.They are facing the danger of dying out.
C.They are forced to give performances.
D.They are sold to black markets for money.

A.Poachers are well-organized.
B.They don’t have flashlights to see things clearly.
C.Poachers are armed with weapons.
D.They have difficulty identifying poachers at night.
【3】How did WWF help rangers?
A.It allowed them to drive ranging vehicles.
B.It set up watchtowers for them.
C.It equipped them with high-tech cameras.
D.It observed their way of ranging.
【4】What can be a suitable title for die text?
A.New Challenges Rangers Are Faced with
B.Technology Supports Wildlife Protection
C.Poachers Punished for Illegal Businesses
D.Poaching—A Crime that Must Stop Now
29、Electrical devices (仪器) could soon use power made by human energy. Scientists say they have developed an experimental device that produces electricity from the physical movement of a person walking. British scientist Max Donelan and other scientists in Canada and the United States developed the device.
The device connects to a person's knee. As the person walks, the device captures energy each time the person slows down. To do this, the device helps with the slowing down movement of the leg. The movements of the walking person push parts of a small machine that produces electricity. Using the device, an adult walking quickly could produce thirteen watts of electricity in just a minute. Donelan says walking at that speed could produce enough power to operate a laptop computer for six minutes.
There are several possible uses for the device. Developers say it could help people who work in areas without electricity to operate small computers. The device could also be used in hospitals to operate heart pacemakers (起搏器). It could even be used to assist in the movement of robotic arms and legs.
The experimental version of the device weighs about one and a half kilograms, but it is too costly for most people to buy. But the researchers hope to make a lighter, less costly version. An improved version should be ready in one year.
The developers hope the device will one day help developing countries. Nearly twenty-five percent of people around the world live without electric power.
A similar product was invented in 2005 by Larry Rome of the University of Pennsylvania. He created a bag carried on a person's back that also produces power from walking. The knee device does not produce as much electricity as the bag. But the bag requires the walker to carry a load of twenty to thirty kilograms.
【1】The second paragraph mainly talks about ________.
A. who developed the device
B. how the device works
C. several possible uses for the devices
D. how much electricity the device can produce
【2】What is the disadvantage of the experimental version of the device?
A. It is too heavy for the walker to bear.
B. It is too complex for people to use.
C. It will slow down one's walking speed.
D. It is too expensive for most people to afford.
【3】Compared with the device designed by Larry Rome, this new device ________.
A. produces power without adding more loads to the walker
B. can produce more power in a much shorter time
C. needs to be equipped with a battery
D. can help the walker walk faster
【4】From the passage, we can learn that the electrical device can ________.
A. help housewives operate the micro-wave oven
B. make it much easier for us to go online
C. produce more electricity than that invented by Larry Rome
D. be applied in medicine to operate heart pacemakers

It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. We had not seen rain in almost a month. The crops were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk. The streams were long gone back into the earth. If we didn't see some rain soon we would lose everything. It was on this day that I learned the true lesson of sharing and witnessed the best miracle I have ever seen in my life.
I was in the kitchen making lunch for the family when I saw my six-year old son, Billy, walking toward the woods. I could only see his back. He wasn't walking with his usual steps. He was obviously walking with great effort... trying to be as still as possible. Minutes after he disappeared into the woods, he came running out again, toward the house. I went back to make sandwiches, thinking that whatever he had been doing was completed. Moments later, however, he was once again walking in that slow purposeful long step toward the woods. This activity went on for over an hour: walking cautiously to the woods, then running back to the house. Finally, my curiosity got the best of me. I crept out of the house and followed him on his journey.
He was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked; being very careful not to spill (溅出) the water he held in them. I stepped close as he went into the woods. Branches and thorns slapped his little face but he did not try to avoid them. He might have a much greater purpose, I thought. As I came closer, I saw the most amazing sight. Several large deer stood in front of him. Billy walked right up to them, at the sight of which I almost screamed for him to get away. A huge buck (雄鹿) was dangerously close. But the buck neither threatened him nor even moved as Billy knelt down. And I saw a baby deer lying on the ground, obviously suffering from heavy loss of water and heat exhaustion, lifting its head with great effort to lap (舔) up the water cupped in my boy's hands.
