22、Days of circling the parking lot looking for a space may be a thing of the past. A new service, called MyPark, aims to make finding a spot much easier by letting users reserve it beforehand.
When a spot is reserved, MyPark automatically knows you’re there and uses a smartphone-controlled robot to make sure no one takes your place. Several malls and airports around the U. S. have already taken advantage of the technology in their parking lots. Users download the app, create an account and enter their destination. From there, they can select a parking space from a map of the location’s parking lot.
Most of the spaces reserved by MyPark are located near the entrance to your destination, so it not only saves users the time of finding a spot, but also the hassle of a long walk. Users can either reserve a spot immediately before they arrive by using the “Park now” feature, or for sometime in the future, as the app lets users reserve a parking space up to six months in advance. Each reservation costs users a fee of about $1 to $3 for the first two hours and then additional charges for every additional hour after that.
Each MyPark space has a small robot that stands up when a spot has been reserved. A black and yellow flag is situated on top of the robot, letting other drivers know that it’s a MyPark spot. When users arrive at their reserved spot, they tap “Let me in” on the MyPark app and the robot folds down flat, so that the user can drive over it and park their car.
“Convenient parking is often a challenge, so we created an app that makes parking easy,” MyPark’s website explains. “You can book in advance or right when you get to where you are going.”

23、 My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s (老年痴呆症) last summer. Suddenly, it was difficult for me to accept that the roles were now changed — my mother became my child, and I became her mother. I became impatient, argued with her, once I even yelled at her. Gradually, I was used to this kind of life. Now I am able to deal with her and the situation better. I have learned a lot of life lessons from the experience.
My mother reacts very sensitively to my feelings. That is typical of Alzheimer’s patients. When I visit her, feeling hectic and tense, she reacts immediately, takes on my mood, and becomes nervous and negative. But when I appear cheerful and attentive, she is happy. This has taught me to pay more attention to my own feelings when I am with other people.
Through the illness my mother has developed a childlike tactlessness (不得体). Eating out in restaurants, for example, is a bit embarrassing when she shouts at the waiter that the food is so bad or talks about people at the next table in a loud voice. Of course I make sure that my mother doesn’t hurt anyone, but I’ve stopped complaining about others and have become more tolerant.
I have also learned that everything has special value. When my mother got sick I didn’t want to burden my two daughters with it. They are young and have enough going on with their education, and starting their careers. I felt that it was simply my job as my mother’s daughter. The most wonderful discovery I’ve made through my mother’s disease may be that my children not only offer to help me, but that they take care of my mother on their own actively. They visit her often, play cards with her, and look at photo albums together with her. It shows me that it’s all worth it.

A.They are naughty. B.They are considerate.
C.They are traditional. D.They are selfish.
【4】What is the passage mainly about?
A.How I Cared for My Sick Mother. B.How I Became More Tolerant.
C.What I Have Learned from Alzheimer’s. D.Why I Am Feeling stressed.
24、Researchers believe they have found an unknown kind of whale in waters off Mexico's western coast. If others verify the finding, the new whale will be an important discovery among giant animals.
The team of researchers came upon three unusual whales while following a rare group of beaked whales. The whales were near Mexico's distant San Benito Islands, about 500 km south of the U. S. border. Beaked whales usually avoid meeting humans.
Jay Barlow studies sea animals. He noted that it was a very unusual meeting. "It's very rare to even see a beaked whale, and to find a group of friendly beaked whales, it's even rarer, " he said.
Barlow said he and other researchers did not realize they were seeing a possible new kind of whale until later. The group saw something different about the whales' teeth when they studied the photos they took of the animals. The underwater recordings of the whales' calls also suggested they were different from all others.
The researchers are now waiting for test results on water they collected near the whales. There could be skin cells in the water from the whales. If so, they will examine the DNA to make sure whether the whales are a new species.
Though up to 5 meters long, the whales can be hard for scientists to see. That is because they usually swim and eat at depths of around 914 meters. They only come up at times for air. In the deep water, the animals can stay away from their main enemy—killer whales.
Barlow said that finding a new species is a rare event. His team has evidence about the whales that looks like a new discovery. He said the DNA testing would help determine it and he hoped the whales could be determined as a new species. That would bring the number of known beaked whale species to 24.
【1】What does the underlined word "verify” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Value.
B.Refuse.
C.Prove.

【2】What made the researchers believe that they might find a new whale species?
A.The whales' huge size.
B.The whales' sounds.
C.The shape of the whales' mouth.

A.To find enough food.
B.To keep themselves safe.
C.To avoid meeting humans.
D.To reduce the need for air.
【4】What was Barlow's attitude towards determining the beaked whales as a new species?
A.Uncaring.
B.Doubtful.
C.Worried.
D.Supportive.
