21、 Study skills are valuable tools when it comes to achieving meaningful learning. But there are many students who haven’t mastered good skills. They often go for last-minute memorization. Studying from memory won’t give you very promising scores. 【1】 These will help you improve your performance.
【2】 It means writing down the most important points in your own words so that you can remember them more easily. In most cases the key is to be able to write them down quickly, but without leaving out any important information. The other key is to make sure the relationship between the main concepts is very clear.
Then remember to look over your notes within 24 hours of taking them, even if you don’t have a test coming up. 【3】 Then when you actually start studying for a test, you’ll be able to recall the information much better than if you hadn’t looked over your notes at all since you took them.
Another skill to help you study better is brainstorming. 【4】 So it can be especially useful for doing group projects, and you can consider different ideas and viewpoints. But it can also be useful to cram for an exam. It can clear up any questions and help you dig deeper into the subject matter.
No one is born knowing how to study, so study skills are very important.
【5】
A.This will put you at a huge advantage.
B.Taking notes is one of the most widespread.
C.It’s important to solve problems in a simpler way.

23、“Volunteering makes you look at the world differently. You see how little things can change a person’s life for the better, which makes everyone a better person.” Mason, a volunteer said.
National Volunteer Week started in 1974 and is held every April. It is a time to thank volunteers for their achievements. It is also a perfect opportunity (机会) to encourage others to take their first step toward becoming a volunteer. Making the decision to take the first step can be the biggest problem, because they often wonder if they will be able to meet the organization’s expectations (期望). Some people fear not knowing anyone else in the group. Not having enough time also prevents some from sharing their abilities.
The following tips can help if you have some of these worries.
★ Start out slowly, don’t add too much pressure. Even a few hours a month can make a big difference in someone’s life.
★ Choose an organization with the same interests and common values.
★ Take part in a training meeting for new volunteers, even if it is not asked.
★ Work with a veteran volunteer. He volunteered a lot, he can help you increase the confidence and completely understand the organization’s expectations.
★ Invite a friend or family member to serve. It is a good experience to volunteer with them.
★ Finally, is most important to enjoy the volunteer experience and to remember that not all volunteer experiences are perfect. If one experience doesn’t work, don’t give up and you’ll surely find the right opportunity.
Spend some time on volunteer work and you will see great changes in people’s lives. As Mason discovered during his volunteer experience, “… little things can change a person’s life.”

24、A while back I caught a news report on something called couchsurfing and the net work of trusting souls who make this phenomenon possible. They offer to put up(留宿) travelers free of charge and help them on their ways. At first, it sounded unbelievable. I mean, inviting strangers into one's home for one or two nights? Give me a break.
However, I was intrigued. I decided to investigate(调查). The only way to truly learn about this phenomenon was to dive in. So I planned a trip to Finland, a country I' ve always wanted to explore. I would couchsurf at every stop there.
If ever any anxiety existed when stepping into the unknown, it disappeared when my first host met me at the train station. Ari looked like my idea of a typical Finn: tall and blue-eyed. Finns were also supposed to be famously reserved((寡言少语的). Ari was anything but. He was a live wire, giving me an enthusiastic welcome and hiking with me to his apartment, where he showed me the sleeping sofa, served me tea and engaged me in warm conversations. He also handed me a key to come and go as I pleased.
If this was what couchsurfing was all about-trust and friendship- then I had gotten off to a good start. As I boarded my next train to continue my journey I began to think about this couchsurfing idea. What urged these people to open their homes to strangers? I concluded that there was a desire to lend a hand to like-minded folks who might enrich their own lives.
Seven cities in 14 days. Seven hosts. Seven new friends. If couchsurfing taught me anything, it's this: Most people are good and generous. Where will couchsurfing take me next? Who knows? But I can't wait to find out.
【1】What does the underlined word in the second paragraph mean?
A.Relaxed
B.Disgusted
C.Interested
D.Embarrassed
【2】What can we know about Ari?
A.He was reserved like most Finns
B.He talked less but he was friendly.
C.He treated the author as a friend
D.He saw off the author at the train station
【3】Why did people offer couchsurfing to strangers?
A.To take an adventure with strangers
B.To exchange houses for a short time.
C.To learn more about others' family lives.
D.To enrich their own lives by helping others.
【4】What can be the suitable title for the text?
A.Travel on Trust and Couches
B.A Free Travel in Finland
C.Experiences in Strangers' Houses.
D.A Plan for Couchsurfing
