  • 21、East China’s port city of Quanzhou was added to UNESCO World Heritage (遗产) List on July 25, 2021, bringing the total number of the country’s UNESCO World Heritage sites to 56. The following are four of them, which fall into two categories — three cultural sites and one natural site.

    Classical Gardens of Suzhou

Classical Chinese garden design, which seeks to recreate natural scenery, is nowhere better shown than in the nine gardens in Suzhou. They are generally acknowledged to be masterpieces of the style. Dating from the 11th — 19th century, the gardens reflect the importance of natural beauty in Chinese culture in their design.

    Hubei Shennongjia

This natural site protects the largest primary forests remaining in Central China and provides living space for many rare animals. It is one of three centers of biodiversity in China. The site is important in the history of botanical research and was the object of international plant collecting trips in the 19th and 20th centuries.

    Ancient City of Pingyao

Founded in the 14th century, Pingyao is a well-preserved example of a traditional Han Chinese city. It shows the changes of architectural styles and town planning in China over five centuries. Of special interest are the grand buildings associated with banking, for which Pingyao was the major centre for the whole of China in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Ancient Villages in Southern Anhui — Xidi and Hongcun

The two traditional villages of Xidi and Hongcun preserve the appearance of non-urban settlements of a type that largely disappeared or was transformed during the last century. Their street plan, their architecture and decoration, and the harmony of houses with water systems are unique surviving examples.

【1】What is stressed in the design of Suzhou Gardens?

    A.The tradition.

    B.The natural beauty.

    C.The biodiversity.

    D.The Chinese history.

【2】In what way is Hubei Shennongjia different from the other three?

    A.It belongs to natural sites.

B.It has the largest forest in China.

    C.It attracts objective collectors.

D.It owns a biodiversity research center.

【3】Which place was the major financial center of China in the 19th century?

    A.Quanzhou.

    B.Suzhou.

    C.Pingyao.

    D.Xidi.

  • 22、In recent years, especially during the 1960s, there was much discussion about "the brain drain (人才流失) ," which dealt with the problem of students and learned people who left their own countries for other countries that offered better chances for study, research, and employment. For example, according to a report from U.N., between 1962 and 1966 more than 50 percent of all engineering graduates of Iran and 14 percent of Iranian (伊朗的) scientists left their country for work abroad. Over 30percent of Chilean (智利的) engineers and 15 percent of Turkish (土耳其的)physicians also went to work in other countries. Probably the greatest brain drain occurred among young scientists who had gone abroad to study. Many of them had planned to return to their countries to teach but chose to remain in more industrialized nations where they were able to continue their work and their research in fields in which there were no job possibilities at home. The countries that attracted most of these scientists were the United States, Great Britain, Germany, France, Canada, and Australia.

Recent studies show that the brain drain to the United States may be decreasing. Many foreign scientists are going home again, and in some cases American scientists are leaving the United States for employment in other countries. The main reasons are that good jobs are becoming fewer here, money for national research has been sharply cut, and university fellowships reduced too. However, in the field of medicine the drain to the United States still goes on. Today more than one of every five American doctors is foreign-born, and several thousand foreign doctors immigrate to the United States each year. Over eighty countries have asked the State Department to send students who are skilled in important fields such as medicine back home when their study programs are over.

【1】Which of the following is not the reason for "the brain drain'"?

    A.Better chances of study.

    B.Better research condition.

    C.Good job possibility.

    D.Good housing.

【2】How many American doctors are foreign-born?

    A.More than 20 percent.

    B.About half of them.

    C.Several thousand.

    D.About 15 percent.

【3】Which is the best title for this passage?

A.How to seek a job in the USA.

    B.Doctors' immigration to the USA.

    C.The brain drain.

    D.A strange case.

  • 23、Fear of missing out or FOMO is characterized by “a desire to stay continually connected with what others are doing”.

Researchers have found that FOMO leads us to check social media more frequently, leading to a negative cycle that can be hard to break. 【1】 Your mood will be easily influenced by others and your life starts to be controlled by the outside world. However, the situation can be improved if you take the following advice.

【2】 Try to reduce our screen time, focus on building your own path to success and do what you like. Live in the moment, you will find nothing is missing out in our life!

It is common to post on social media to keep a record of the fun things you do. 【3】 If this is the case, you may try to keep a personal journal of your best memories, either online or on paper. Keeping a journal can help you to shift your focus from public approval to private appreciation of the things that make your life great. 【4】

You may find yourself seeking a greater connection when you are feeling depressed or anxious, and this is healthy. Feelings of loneliness are actually our brain’s way of telling us that we want to seek out greater connections with others and increase our sense of belonging. 【5】 Talking with families, making plans with a good friend, or creating a group outing that can help you to shake that feeling that you are missing out.

    A.You actually can’t miss anything.

B.Especially the young are addicted to the social media.

C.Rather than focusing on what you lack, try noticing what you have.

D.This shift can sometimes help you to get out of the cycle of FOMO.

E.As a result, it will lead to feelings of depression, loneliness, and boredom.

F.However, you may find yourself noticing too much about people’s opinion on your experiences online.

G.Rather than connect with people on social media, why not arrange to meet up with someone in person?

  • 24、   It’s a good idea for families to talk about what they would do to escape a fire. You’ll want to talk about escape plans and escape routes,so let’s start here.

An escape plan can help every member of a family get out of a burning house. The idea is to get outside quickly and safely.Smoke from a fire can make it hard to see where things are,so it’s important to learn and remember the different ways out of your home.If you live in an apartment building, you’ll want to know the best way to the stair or other emergency exits. If you’re in a room with the door closed when the fire breaks out,you need to take a few extra steps:

If you don’t see smoke — touch the door.If the door is hot or very warm — don’t open the door!

If you don’t see smoke and the door is not hot — then use your fingers to lightly touch the doorknob (门把手).If the doorknob is hot or very warm—don’t open the door!

If the doorknob feels cool, and you can’t see any smoke around the door, you can open the door very carefully and slowly. When you open the door,if you feel a burst of heat,or smoke pours into the room, quickly shut the door and make sure it is really closed. If there’s no smoke or heat when you open the door,go toward your escape route exit.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

    Saved by the Belt

My family is one of the lucky ones. We still have what we consider most precious — each other. It is Kathy Hezlep, our superstar, that has saved our family. Sitting at the porch, I am transported to the accident ten years ago.

As a mother, I have been blessed. I have a nice, smart, good-looking son who has given me much pleasure over the years. In the months leading up to Alan’s 16th birthday, there was a lot of excitement about his upcoming rite (仪式)of passage — the driver’s license.

About a month before his birthday, there was an assembly about seat-belt safety presented at his high school. One of the presenters in this program, Kathy Hezlep, had lost her son in a horrible car crash the year before. When Kathy was first asked to speak at this assembly, she was reluctant. Her son’s death had been extremely hard on her. She often felt helpless and discouraged, and she wasn’t sure how she could make a difference by speaking with this group.

But the school had convinced her to talk to the students. Kathy spoke about how hard it had been since the loss of her son. There were days when it was an effort just to get out of bed. She spoke directly from her heart and my son took her words straight into his heart. I remember Alan coming home that day and the two of us talking about the crash. We thought it was interesting that she was a single mother(like me)and that her son, Ryan, was her only child(like Alan).

Well, the big day finally arrived. The state of Florida, in its infinite wisdom, granted my “ child ” a license to take a loaded weapon and drive it! At the time, I thought the worst feeling I could possibly experience was watching my only child drive off alone in my car. I was wrong.

    注意:

    1.续写词数应为150词左右;

    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
