24、Most people love animals because they are useful(有用的)in many ways. They bring more fun to our life.
We find many different kinds of animals on the earth. Some animals, such as leopards(豹). wolves(狼), snakes, tigers, pandas and foxes(狐狸)live in big forests. They are called wild animals. Most of them are dangerous. Some others like cows and dogs live with men. They are called domestic animals. Animals are important to men. Men catch wild animals for their fur and meat. Skins(皮)of foxes and crocodiles(鳄鱼)can be made into coats and shoes. People are now stopped from killing wild animals in order to protect their lives. Domestic animals can not only give men food, but also help men with some farm work. Without them life could be less fun and more difficult. People get meat from sheep and pigs. 25、From January 24 to 30, we took a special trip to Huizhou, Guangdong. We volunteered in a turtle (乌龟) park. Our job was to take care of the turtles. For me, the most interesting activity was cleaning the turtles.
We first put on special shoes and gloves. Then we took some cleaning tools. Dr. Li worked there. He showed us how to clean the pools and wash the turtles. 26、Aubrey recently noticed her grandmother’s difficulty opening a bottle cap. Aubrey wanted to help. She found a method in her engineering class at Carson Middle School. The goal of the class is to solve problems. In the class, students had to change existing (现有的) products to make daily life easier for people with challenges.
To help Aubrey’s grandmother solve the problem, Aubrey explored existing bottle openers and then created her own. For the improved bottle opener design, she used a piece of wood shaped like a cellphone. Next, she put three holes in it. The holes were of different sizes so that they could match common bottle cap sizes. With a simple twist, her grandmother could open bottles without help.
Students like Aubrey used math, physics and tool skills to help people with challenges. They also learned about empathy. “Empathy is looking at problems from another person’s point of view,” Aubrey’s teacher, Mark Bolt said. “It is of great value for engineering. You have to put yourself in the product users’ shoes to build effective solutions.”
Other students in the class also applied empathy as they watched people around them struggle with daily tasks. Then they used their projects to find methods. Roman’s grandfather had trouble holding a coffee cup because of his arthritis (关节炎). So Roman made a 3D-printed finger which helped his grandfather firmly support the bottom of the cup.
The class tried different ways to improve their products. Rather than giving step-by-step directions for creating their projects, Mark Bolt preferred to leave students’ creative paths open. “If we want to do better, we have to have a chance to fail,” he said.

A.To show a result.
B.To give an example.

A.Being good at math and physics.
B.Putting the product users’ shoes on.
C.Taking users’ needs into consideration.
D.Making use of different tools and skills.
【4】What is the reason for Roman to make a 3D-print finger?
A.He suffered from arthritis.
B.His grandpa’s finger was hurt.
C.His grandpa had difficulty holding a coffee cup.
D.He was greatly interested in the latest technology.
【5】Which is the best title for the passage?
A.Solve daily problems with empathy.
B.Use different ways to make life easier.

27、We are all experienced some unexpected moments. Not everything in our daily life happens as we expected. Running into the person you canceled a date with—while you’re on another date. Realizing you hit “reply all” on an e-mail that you’d do anything to have back. Earthquakes, medical emergencies—whatever the situation is, the first thing you probably do is full of fear. Everybody does. We can be told something, but soon we’ll forget it.
These normal human reactions can be changed. Box breathing, belly(腹部) breathing, or other things—you can learn these skills in minutes. Once you calm down, you’ll find out correctly what the problem is really about. No practice always causes us to think problems in wrong ways. Doing the thinking ahead of time also helps you come up with solution when it’s show time.
Performing in an emergency is becoming more important, for two reasons. Back in the old days, the reliability(可靠性) of most things we used or did was far less than it is today. Also, the systems we use today are more complex. There are seldom moving parts that allow us to see clearly when things will go wrong. So terrible situations can come out of everywhere.
As technology becomes a part of most things, and as once-large risks break into several small ones, we should all learn to breathe, study the situation, and work on the plan that we are smart enough to prepare well in advance.

B.surprised
C.calm
D.afraid
