二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   Kong Zi, also called Confucius(551—479B.C.) , and Socrates (469—399 B.C.) lived only a hundred years apart, and during their lifetimes there was no contact between China and Greece, but it is interesting to look at how the world that each of these great philosophers came from shaped their ideas, and how these ideas in turn, shaped their societies.

Neither philosopher lived in times of peace, though there were more wars in Greece than in China. The Chinese states were very large and feudal, while the Greek city-states were small and urban. The urban environment in which Socrates lived allowed him to be more radical than Confucius. Unlike Confucius, Socrates was not asked by rulers how to govern effectively. Thus, Socrates was able to be more idealistic, focusing on issues like freedom, and knowledge for its own sake.Confucius, on the other hand, advised those in government service, and many of his students went out to government service.

Confucius suggested the Golden Rule as a principle for the conduct of life:“Do not do to others what you would not want others to do to you.” He assumed that all men were equal at birth, though some had more potential than others, and that it was knowledge that set men apart.Socrates focused on the individual, and thought that the greatest purpose of man was to seek wisdom. Like Confucius, he believed that the superior class should rule the inferior classes.

For Socrates, the family was of no importance, and the community of little concern. For Confucius, however, the family was the centre of the society, with family relations considered much more important than political relations.

Both men are respected much more today than they were in their lifetimes.

【1】Which of the following is TRUE according to the first paragraph?

A.Socrates and Confucius had much in common.

B.Confucius had much influence on Socrates’ ideas.

C.The societies were influenced by the philosophers’ ideas.

D.There were cultural exchanges between China and Greece.

【2】Socrates shared with Confucius the idea that___________.

A.all men were equal when they were born

B.the lower classes should be ruled by the upper class

C.the purpose of man was to seek freedom and wisdom

D.People should not ask others to do what they did not want to

【3】What made some people different from others according to Confucius?

    A.Family.

    B.Potential.

    C.Knowledge.

    D.Community.

    【4】How does the passage organize?

A.In the patter of time and events.

B.In the patter of comparison and contrast.

C.In the patter of cause and effect.

D.In the patter of definition and classification.

  • 27、"Do you have any idea how hard it is to be a kid?"My 7-year-old daughter once asked me.My initial reaction to her complaint was eye-rolling,along with thinking,“Being a kid is hard? Are you kidding me?”as I mentally ticked off(用记号勾出)all the hard things that her mama does.

However,as I thought about it a bit more,I realized how silly my reaction had been.Yes,as we adults look back on our childhood, being a kid seems carefree and easy and full of fun.Coloring at school!Playing games!Riding bikes! How could that be hard?So I asked my daughter why being a kid was so hard.

Her first answer didn't surprise me."Well, because you don't have your own phone, and you can't eat in the living room."

I asked if anything else was hard about being a kid."Someone else is the boss of you,"she replied.

I thought some more. What else is hard about being a kid?Well, sometimes,we don't really take kids seriously.

There are times when I've responded to my children's tears with "It's not that bad,"or"You don't need to be upset about that."Because I believe that a cancelled playdate or a lost toy is no big deal. But for little ones,it is.

We don't intentionally ignore these opportunities for connection, but sometimes,in busy moments of parenting, we respond unskillfully. We don't take our children's view, and we miss an opportunity to practice compassion(同情心).

1What was the author’s attitude toward "being a kid is hard" in the first place?

    A. Doubt.   B. Disagree.

    C. Agree.   D. Concern.

    2The author seems to________.

    A. have a happy childhood   B. love drawing at school

    C. feel bored in childhood   D. do hard things at school

    3The author’s daughter complained about______.

    A. terrible meals   B. attending school

    C. boring toys   D. lacking freedom

    4According to the author,parents should______.

    A. do the same things as their children

    B. give more attention to their children

    C. share their life societies with their children

    D. balance time spent on work and with the family

  • 28、Mac Carter, a British father of 14-year-old Ben who has autism (自闭症), searched on the Internet to find a specific kind of little blue cup for his son.

When Ben was two, Mac gave him a little blue cup that was made in China and ever since the cup has become one of the most important things in Ben’s life. Mac never thought that the little cup would cause such a big problem. Ben became dependent on this cup because ever since he received the gift he would only drink water from the exact type of little blue cup. Over 12 years, Ben refused to drink water without the cup. Mac was worried about this because their current cup could break soon and he needed to find a replacement for his son to drink with. The problem was that the cup was no longer being produced.

Mac tried to take Ben to a doctor to solve the cup problem, but it was of no use. So Mac decided to seek help from the public on Twitter. He got a lot of responses and the enthusiasm people from all over the world showed gave him confidence and hope. Many strangers found their identical cup and offered to send them to Ben. Though Mac received a lot of help, he still was concerned. All the cups he received would eventually break. As time passed, it would be even harder to find the same cups.

The situation took a surprising turn when the baby products company Tommee Tippee UK got in touch with Mac. They sent a team to China, and they found the same exact mould (模具) for the cup in the factory that first made it. The company and the Chinese factory decided to make as many as 50 cups for Ben, and Mac was thrilled about all this.

  • 29、In our modem world, high pressure of work and life has led to the practice of social distancing, creating feelings of stress and isolation in many of us. Some people have been hit particularly hard, including the elderly, parents occupied with work and child care, and students who have lots of homework. 【1】.

New research suggests that volunteers aren’t just helping the communities. 【2】. Compared to people who didn’t volunteer, people who had volunteered were more satisfied with their lives and rated their overall health as better. Additionally, people who volunteered more frequently experienced greater benefits.

【3】, the researchers compared it to the effects of people’s income. For a participant earning an average middle-class salary, volunteering was essentially “worth” approximately $1, 100 per year. That means volunteering would make someone as happy as having an extra $1, 100.

Why does volunteering support our mental health? Firstly, volunteering appears to be really rewarding-when we help others, we tend to experience what researchers call a “warm glow. ” Secondly, volunteering is likely to help boost our sense of social connection, which is particularly true for older adults. 【4】. You are doing something new and you will gain new skills in other aspects of life, and the young adults can try out leadership opportunities in various practices.

【5】. So, if you’ve been feeling upset or out of sorts lately, join some volunteering activities, which will definitely bring you a sense of control and comfort no matter the frequency or the type of work.
