24、Although she’s quite young, Drew Barrymore can be a Hollywood legend (传奇). She was born on February 22, 1975, in California. Being from a family that produced great actors, she quickly found her way into the spotlight (聚光灯).
When she was 11 months old, she made her first advertisement on TV. She made her first movie at the age of 2. Five years later, she acted Gertie in Steven Spielberg’s famous film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982).
However, it wasn’t all roses and sunshine when Barrymore was growing up. She was drinking wine by the time she was 9, smoking marijuana (大麻) at 10.
Most kid stars in Hollywood fail to become stars as adults. And most of the time, once they’re out of the spotlight, they stay out. But Drew Barrymore doesn’t.
As she was growing older, Barrymore got to learn that life is more meaningful than dangerous actions in the films. She started to build a career in 1997. She has made many successful films since then, including Charlie’s Angels (2000) and 50 First Dates (2004).
“In my life, there is darkness and drama, and I ‘m trying my best. I just want to challenge myself and prove that I can do more.”
In fact, if you don’t know her disordered childhood, you might find it hard to believe she’s such a sweet person now. Like many of the characters she plays in her comedy, Drew is easy-going and laughs a lot. In 2007, she was on the cover of People magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful People issue.
“Life is very interesting … in the end, some of your greatest pains, become your greatest strengths,” Drew said.

26、How often do you hear people saying that the relationship between their parents and them is not as good as it used to be? Now let’s see what you can do to get along well with your parents.
As a teenager, you should respect your parents and what they did for you. If your parents don’t allow you to do something, do not go out of the way to do it. There must be a good reason why they feel you should not do that thing. Do not be angry about it or fight with them. Talk to them and explain to them your opinion. As you enter your mid-teens, you will realize you want to be independent. This change is going to bring conflicts (矛盾) between you and your parents. You will feel your parents control you too much. To avoid further conflict, talk to them, and follow them.
When you grow older and become an adult, you will be independent. That can put a distance (距离) between you and your parents. In this situation, listening to each other and understanding each other are necessary to build a healthy relationship between you and your parents. Since you are an adult, the parent child relationship develops into a relationship between adults. However, some things never change. You will always be their kid, no matter how old you are. 27、You probably enjoy riding a bicycle. But because more injuries (伤害) happen with bicycles than with any other kind of vehicle (交通工具), it is important that you keep your bicycle in good working conditions and follow some safety rules while you ride.
To help prevent accidents, ride your bicycle on the roads when there’s little traffic. If you can choose quiet streets, instead of riding on a busy street, your trip will be much safer. Whenever you ride on a road or street, you should know and practice bicycle safety rules. Always ride on the right side of the road so that cars can pass you safely. Because they go in the same direction as you. It is very important that you follow traffic signs.
Sometimes the best way to travel from one place to another is to walk. But you must remember that you are not the only traveler. Car and bus drivers, truckers may all pass by quickly without seeing you. Walk on sidewalks whenever possible. If there is no sidewalk and you have to walk on the road, you should walk on the left side facing traffic. By walking toward the coming cars, you will be able to see and move away from danger before anything hits you. If you have to cross the road, be sure to look in both directions to see that the way is clear. You can never be too careful. The most important thing for you is to follow the traffic safety rules.
