25、I was born and raised in Hawaii, where I learned to enjoy and respect the difference of cultures as a member of its very successful Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. Most of my classmates stayed in Hawaii for a college or went to schools on the West Coast, but I decided to broaden my horizons by attending Purdue University in Indiana. When I was there, I discovered I was a minority (少数派)—something I had never experienced back home.
Being a minority for the first time, I felt I was a person who knew nothing about what they often talked about. My ideas, interests and values were often thought to be not important. After sharing a different point of view, I would often hear: “What do you know? You’re from Hawaii.” These answers finally stopped me from telling where I was from.
That summer I went home to work for a political organization in Honolulu, where I discovered a love for working on laws. Slowly, my pride in my culture came back.
I returned to Purdue with a newfound love for my background. I decided to try my best to share my culture with everyone I could and, after I did, I found people were more willing to hear my ideas. I changed my major (专业) to political science and decided I wanted to be a civil servant (公务员).
I’m still young and have much to learn, but I will always remain proud of my culture. It has helped me form who I am today and helped me have. a better understanding of the world. I’ve also learned to be more patient and more open. I will make sure to provide a safe space for people to express their ideas and backgrounds without fear of being left out.

26、Eighteen days after its premier (首映), The Battle at Lake Changjin has got over 4.8 billion yuan and broke 24 records in Chinese film history, including becoming the first Chinese film to break 400 million yuan at the daily box office for six days.
The Battle at Lake Changjin is just one of several nationalist films that have become big commercial (商业的) hits in China in recent years, but its influence across the country is unheard-of. Its biggest highlight is that it has achieved a high degree of national empathy (共情) and cultural output (输出) for Chinese films heading overseas, which is a hard-to-reach achievement for other commercial movies.
People were deeply moved by the Chinese People’s Volunteers (CPVs) in this movie. According to a video online, students from a middle school experience how Chinese soldiers ate fried flour and frozen potatoes on the field after watching the film. In a shaking voice with tears, one student says how they need to value their hard-won lives without complaining anymore.
Similarly, a video of a young woman in Southwest’s China’s Yunnan Province eating frozen potatoes has gone viral on social media (媒体). In the video, the woman makes a lot of efforts to bite off just a small piece, then bursts into tears.
The “Changjin Lake Effect (效应)” has reached the whole society to inspire the strong love of our country and led the world to reexamine that period of history and listen to the voice of China.
We seem to have become used to watching all-powerful superheroes flying across the big screen and accepting cultural input from the West, but this time, The Battle at Lake Changjin is a movie that truly belongs to the Chinese, and has shaped Chinese heroes and tells a good Chinese story. 27、 About thirty years ago, China was known as the “Bicycle Kingdom”. But the two-wheeled transports were soon replaced by their fuel-powered competitors ( 对手).
Recently, normal bikes are seen across China, with an increasing number of people choosing riding instead of driving to schools, to workplace or to go sightseeing. The introduction of bike-sharing plan, led by new companies, like Ofo and Mobike, has brought the heat to a new level.
According to the research made the first week of this year, there were about 5.85 million users of Mobike while Ofo had 1.4 million users. People can unlock the shared bikes by using their Smartphones. The bikes are set with GPS and can be left anywhere in public for the next user. They are popular among many Chinese people as they provide an effective way to the“last mile” problem, which means the final part of a person’s journey. “In places where the underground cannot reach, where it’s difficult to change from one kind of transport to another, it’s so easy to get where you want to go with Mobike,” Hu Hong, 29, told AFP. She rides to her Shanghai Company every day.
However, the plans also have some problems, such as illegal( 违法) parking, damage and stealing. Last month, two nurses in Beijing were caught by policemen for five days for putting locks on two shared bikes. And in December, a man who stole a shared bike was put in prison for 3 months and had to pay 1,000 yuan.
Now, Chinese service runners are trying to solve these problems. For example, Mobike sets a100-point score for each user. Points will be taken away when bad behavior happens. Once a score drops below 80, the price of renting a bike will rise to 100 yuan per 30 minutes, up from 0.5-1 yuan.
