24、If you are hungry, what do you do? Have your favorite meal and stay quiet after that? Just like your stomach, even your mind is hungry. But it never lets you know, because you keep it busy thinking about your dream lover, favorite star and so on. If you always think of such meaningless things, your creativity will get a full stop.
In fact, hunger of the mind can be satisfied through reading. Now why reading but not watching TV? Because reading is the most useful tool from the childhood. We can ask for help from reading. There are a large number of books in this world. They will answer most of your “How to?” questions. When you read a book, your mind will work on it and explain it to you.
The interesting part of the book is stored in your mind as a seed. Now this seed is used in your future to develop new ideas. If the same seed is used many times, it can help you connect a lot of things together. The more books you read, the more widely your mind will open up. This will also improve your speaking skills and increase your vocabulary.
I had a problem in speaking English before. But as I read, I could improve it a lot. So friends, do follow me and give food for thought by reading, reading and more reading. Now what are you waiting for? Go, find a book, and let me know.

School started again, and soon the ink(墨水)in Tom's spelling book was found. Tom said he hadn't split the ink, but that made it look as if he were lying. Becky almost said Alfred Temple had done it, but she kept quiet. She thought that Tom would tell the teacher about her tearing(撕)his book, so she didn't save him. Mr. Bobbins beat him and then Tom went back to his seat.
After an hour Mr. Bobbins unlocked his desk and took out his book. Tom looked over at Becky.
She looked like a hunted and helpless rabbit. The next moment the master faced the children. There was a long silence, then he spoke, "Who tore this book?"
There wasn't a sound. The teacher searched their faces.
"Benjamin Rogers, did you do it?"
Benjamin said no.
"Joseph Harper, did you?"
Joseph also said no. Mr. Bobbins looked at the rows of boys, thought for a moment, then turned to the girls.
"Amy Lawrence?"
A shake of the head.

26、Dear 17-year-old self,
When your Lakers’ (洛杉矶湖人队) dream comes true tomorrow, you need to think out a way to invest (投资) in the future of your family and friends. This sounds simple, but you have to take some time to think it over.
I said invest. I did not say give. Let me explain.
Just giving material things to your siblings (兄弟姐妹) and friends may seem to be right decision. You love them, and they were always there for your giving up, so it’s only right that they should share your success and all that comes with it. Y ou buy them a car, a big house, and pay all of their bills. You want them to live a comfortable life, right?
But that is not the truth.
You will come to understand that you were taking care of them because it made you feel good to see them smiling. That was very selfish (自私的) of you. While you were feeling satisfied (满意的) with yourself, you were slowly eating away at their own dreams and ambitions (抱负). You were adding material things to their lives, but taking away the most precious (珍贵的) gifts of all: independence (独立) and growth.
You are going to be the leader of the family. This includes making hard choices, even if your siblings and friends do not understand them at the time.
Invest in their future; don’t just give.
Use your success, wealth and influence to put them in the best position to realize their own dreams and find their true purposes. Put them through school, set them up with job interviews and help them become leaders on their own.
I’m writing to you now so that you can begin this process quickly because your success has led to anger and jealousy (嫉妒) among your family.
There’s much more I could write to you, but at 17, I know you don’t have the attention span (注意力持续时间) to sit through 2, 000 words. Trust me, setting things up right from the beginning will avoid a ton of tears and heartache.
Much love,
Kobe

Billions of locusts (蝗虫) are moving through farms and fields in the East African countries of Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia.
Locusts are grasshoppers. Normally grasshoppers don't travel in groups and so they do little harm. But when there are lots of them, their bodies and behavior change. That's when they become locusts. Locusts travel in huge groups, laying eggs along the way, which produce even more locusts. In a single day, a small swarm (群) of the insects can eat as much food as 35,000 people do.
The locust swarms in Ethiopia and Somalia are the worst in 25 years. These locusts are desert locusts. They began swarming about six months ago. By moving with the winds, desert locusts can travel up to 90 miles a day or more.
Locust swarms are more common when heavy rains follow a long dry period. The insects lay their eggs in the wet ground. This season, East Africa has had its heaviest rainy season in 40 years.
When the insects swarm, one square kilometer of land can hold as many as 150 million locusts. There are 700 square kilometers of land covered by the insects in Kenya alone.
The insects are a threat to lives in the region, where food is already in short supply. Already many farmers who keep animals are struggling because locusts have eaten out the plants the animals usually live on.
In East Africa, farmers have been shooting into the air or making noises in the fields, but that doesn't work against so many insects. Experts say that spraying pesticides (杀虫剂) over large areas from airplanes is the only way to reduce the number of insects. The UN has released (释放) $10million to help deal with the locust problem.
