24、Recently, China Youth Daily has done a survey on memes (梗). They find that 67.34% of the interviewees will share new memes with their friends while the rest of the interviewees say “no”. Some people think that memes can create a relaxing atmosphere, but others think that internet language should not be widely used in real life. Do you think memes can help social communication?
Chen Shuqi Memes are created to communicate with others not only online but also in daily communication offline. Most memes have more than one meaning, which helps people express their, feelings better. Nowadays, memes have become fashionable in daily lives and have made the Chinese language more diverse (多样化). |
Xia Xiaoyu Though memes are popular in daily communication, they have some disadvantages. For example, memes are changing so fast that some people will fall behind. Using memes relies on the important premise (前提) that both speakers understand each other. If one of them doesn’t understand, it will be embarrassing. So I suggest that people should use easier words instead of following the crowd blindly. |
Zeng Xinyue Some memes are from movies, comics and other popular entertainment. People can use this kind of memes to recognize friends who have the same interests as they do. What’s more, these funny memes can attract more people to share what they like. If you get tired of a boring conversation, you can add proper memes that not only make it lively but also show your sense of humor. |
Liu Jiaming Using certain memes may sometimes resonate with (与……产生共鸣) someone, but they can also cause misunderstanding. Recently, the meme “AaBaAaBa” has been popular. But do you know the meme was first used to laugh at the deaf and dumb? What if you were made fun of? Using too many memes can cause communication problems. |

【3】Why do some people disagree with using memes?

25、 Hunting its food in the open sea, the shark has three senses on which it mainly depends. These are smell, sight, and the vibration (震动) of the water-the shark’s “hearing”. Of course, the sense of smell is usually thought to be the most important. Although the shark’s brain is small for the size of its body (some people believe the shark’s brain does not even record the sense of pain), a very large part of the brain is given to the sense of smell. Some scientists refer to the shark as a “swimming nose”.
The shark’s nostrils(鼻孔)are on the underside of its nose, just ahead of the mouth. But they have no connection with the mouth. In fact, they have nothing to do with breathing. They are for smelling only, and they do an excellent job. Each nostril is a kind of cup filled with olfactory cells(嗅觉细胞), the cells that sense smell. As the shark moves, or even when it lays still, water flows in and out of each nostril, often bathing the olfactory cells.
The shark has another tool for finding its food-its eyes. For a long while it was believed that the shark’s eyesight was very poor. But actually the shark sees better than most people had believed. In fact, it is unusually sensitive to light. And its eyes have a special addition, one it shares with cats and some other night animals-a mirror-like layer(层)in the back of the eye.
Light comes through the eye and is reflected back again. In this way the part of the eye sensitive to light is stimulated(刺激)twice.
