21、There are a lot of reasons to love biking, whether it brings back childhood memories of the past, provides an eco-friendly mode of transportation, or gives you an energizing way to move your legs. 【1】
What are the benefits of biking?
Biking can also help get you stronger without overly demanding your joints. 【2】Biking is a non-weight bearing activity, which means it puts less stress on joints of the knees and ankles.
【3】
Just because you’re sitting down when biking, it doesn’t mean you can’t get a challenging training. There are a number of levers you can pull to level up or down your ride. This can come in the form of resistance, hills, and speed. A variety of all three at intervals is a great choice.
How many calories does an average bike ride burn?
【4】 Calorie burn is completely dependent on the weight of the rider, the amount of energy they are using to ride, and the time and distance they are riding. The more power output, the harder the ride, the more calories burned.
How often should you make your bike ride?
There are no hard and fast rules on how long and often you should ride a bike, as it depends on individual fitness levels, goals, and more. 【5】 If you are not working as hard or have different goals like endurance or recovery, then 45-60 minutes may be appropriate.
A.What can you get when biking?
B.How do you make your bike ride suitable?
C.There’s no magic number for calories burned while biking.
D.Indoor biking can provide more control for a beginner, making him or her feel safer.
E.Cycling, whether indoors or outdoors, can benefit the lungs, he muscle, and the mind.
F.Besides, biking can also be a great practice with benefits beyond getting your heart pumping.
G.If you are doing shortly high intensity on cycling, then 20-30 minutes can get you great benefits.
22、Children's average daily time spent watching television or using mobile device increased from 53 minutes at age 12 months to more than 150 minutes at 3 years, according to an analysis by researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). By age 8, children were more likely to log the highest amount of screen time if they had been in home-based children or were born to first-time mothers.
“Our results indicate that screen habits begin early, ”said Edwina Yeung, an investigator in National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).“This finding suggests that interventions(干涉) to reduce screen time could have a better chance of success if introduced early.”
In the research, mothers of 4, 000 children responded to questions on their kids' media habits when they were 12, 18, 24, 30, and 36 months of age.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends avoiding digital media exposure for children under 18 months of age, introducing children 18 to 24 months of age to screen media slowly, and limiting screen time to an hour a day for children from 2 to 5 years of age. In the current study, researchers found that 87% of the children had screen time exceeding (超过) these recommendations. However, while screen time increased throughout toddlerhood, by age 7 and 8, screen time fell to under 1.5 hours per day. The researchers believe this decrease relates to time consumed by school-related activities.
The study authors classified the children into two groups based on how much their average daily screen time increased from age 1 to age 3. The first group, 73% of the total had the lowest increase, from an average of nearly 51 minutes a day to nearly an hour and 47 minutes a day. The second group, 27% of the total, had the highest increase, from nearly 37 minutes of screen time a day to about 4 hours a day. Higher levels of parental education were associated with lower odds of inclusion in the second group.
【1】Who use mobile device longest according to the NIH's analysis?
A.10-year-old born to first-time mothers.
B.3-year-old children in low income families.
C.8-year-old children in home-based childcare.
D.1-year-old children with parents poorly educated.
【2】What does the research suggest according to Edwina?
A.Parents should stop their children using media.
B.Parents should limit the use of digital media themselves.
C.Parents should reduce their children's screen time earlier.
D.Parents should avoid their children using digital media at infancy (婴儿期).
【3】Why does children's screen time fall when they age 7 and 8?
A.They are studying at school.
B.They can control themselves.
C.They are tired of using them.
D.They are forbidden to use them.
【4】Which of the following may be the best title?
A.Keep Away from Media
B.Screen Habits Begin Early
C.Urgency of Parental Education
D.Harm of Home-based Childcare
23、Louise Blanchard Bethune showed early promise in math. But Louise did not go to school. Instead, her father taught her at home until she was 11 years old. She also discovered a skill for planning houses. It developed into a lifelong interest in architecture and a place in history as the first professional female architect in the United States.
After graduating from high school in 1874, Louise traveled and studied. She hoped to prepare herself to attend the new architecture school at Cornell University. But then Buffalo’s leading architectural firm of Richard A. Waite and F.W. Caulkins offered her a job. She knew that architects gained their training from practical experience, not from school. She took the job.
Louise worked there as an assistant, 10 hours a day for five years. She learned ----and mastered----drawing and architectural design. She also met her husband, Robert A. Bethune. Their new firm, R.A. and L.Bethune, opened in October 1881.
Bethune appeared to be the strength of the business. At the turn of the 20th century, the city of Buffalo was rapidly expanding to meet the demands of growing industry. The firm received tasks to build hundreds of structures throughout western New York. The firm designed lots of schools, apartment buildings, department stores, churches and factories.
Bethune believed that being an architect meant being an artist, a scientist and a business person. She made a point of advocating for women in the profession. She became a member of the Western Association of Architects(WAA) in 1885. In 1888, she was the first woman to join the American Institute of Architects(AIA). Besides, Bethune took a firm stand on equal treatment for women architects. She insisted on equal pay for equal work.
Bethune left almost no papers or letters, and few people recognize her name today. But her legacy remains in the foothold she established for women in the field of architecture. She started her own firm and enjoyed a successful career.

24、 Change is scary. 【1】 It can go hand in hand with the fear that we might hurt someone else if we think about ourselves. The truth is that you're so much more courageous than you give yourself credit for and far stronger than you realize. Here are some ways that you can use to help yourself make the process of creating change more manageable.
Make change into small bite size pieces. 【2】Remember that as long as you attempt to take regular practice towards your goal, such as eating more healthily every day, or walking twenty minutes a day, you' re heading in the right direction to make changes.
Form a habit of keeping a diary every day. Writing a journal every night before going to bed can effectively help you cope with the emotional impact of the change process. Go to grab a pen or pencil and remember a journal is not for being neat and tidy with good spelling. 【3】
Rest is necessary to success. Have a rest and take timeout to build your energy. 【4】If we don't give ourselves time to rest, we just end up burning out by the constant striving and worry. As we don't have the energy to keep going, we have to give up!
【5】Just accept it! I'm sorry to say that unless some people are really secure in themselves and truly happy in their own life, they're never going to like your changes. This has nothing to do with whether they love you or not. They are just for self-preservation! Therefore, give them a little time to adjust and get used to it.
A.It is a step into the unknown.
B.It's not being lazy to have timeout.
C.No one else is going to like your changes.
D.Don't try to eat the elephant in one sitting.
E.Creating change is about building your character.
F.Keep repeating your big steps over and over again.
G.It's a private place where you can speak out your inner thoughts.
