21、How to Remove Stain(污点)
Stains happen to everyone. Cooking can splash oil, adventures sometimes result in blood stains, and you may spill coffee when drinking. Here are some tips helping you learn how to get stains out.
Coffee stains
If you spill coffee, don't worry. Blot(吸干液体)up as much of the coffee as you can right away. Then mix together warm water, dish soap, and white vinegar, and use a clean white cloth to blot the stain with the solution.
Blood stains
You can get unexpected blood stains from skinned knees, bloody noses etc. The key is doing it as soon as possible-dried blood can leave a permanent mark. One of the best blood removers is white vinegar. Soak the stain for five to ten minutes in a mixture of one cup vinegar and two cups warm water, then wipe the blood away.
Paint stains
Once water-based paint is dry, it won't come off. If you get to it while it's still wet, simply wash the paint out under warm water, then wash as usual. For oil-based paints, wipe the spot with paint thinner, then wash; treat with a stain remover, and launder.
Ink stains
Whether your child "accidentally" wrote on your sleeve or a pen leaked in a pocket, we've got effective options for getting it out. Apply plain white toothpaste to the pen mark, then rub to lift the stain away.

22、 Bill Gates and the president of General Motors have met for lunch, and Bill is going on and on about computer technology. “If automotive technology had kept pace with computer technology over the past few decades, you would now be driving a V-32 instead of a V-8, and it would have a top speed of 10,000 miles per hour,” says Gates. “Or you could have an economy car that weighs 30 pounds and gets a thousand miles to a gallon of gas. In either case, the sticker price(标价)of a new car would be less than $ 50. Why haven’t you guys kept up?”
The president of GM smiles and says, “Because the federal government won’t let us build cars that crash four times a day.”
Why is that funny(or not funny, as the ease may be)? Human beings love to laugh, and the average adult laughs 17 times a day. Humans love to laugh so much that there are actually industries built around laughter. Jokes, siteoms and comedies are all designed to get us laughing, because laughing feels good. For us it seems so natural, but the funny thing is that humans are the only species that laughs. Laughter is actually a complex response that involves many of the same skills used in solving problems.
Laughter is a great thing—that’s why we’ve all heard the saying, “Laughter is the best medicine.” There is strong evidence that laughter can actually improve health and help fight disease. When we look at laughter—what it is, what happens in our brains when we laugh, what makes us laugh and how it can make us healthier and happier, there’s a huge amount about it that no one understands yet.

A.“You would now be driving a V-32 instead of V-8.”

23、 Narayana Peesapaty was sitting on a flight when he noticed a passenger trying to reach food with a biscuit after breaking his spoon. At that moment, the researcher’s mind gave birth to a simple yet revolutionary concept — edible spoons.
How do you like your spoon?
Peesapaty’s company, Bakeys, makes edible spoons mainly out of sorghum(高粱)though rice, wheat and water are also ingredients. They combine to form a dry eating tool that remains hard even when used in moist or hot foods. Bakeys also makes ginger and garlic flavored(风味) spoons to meet specific requests. All spoons are completely natural and acceptable for nearly all diets.
A rice replacement
An environmentally-minded water researcher, Peesapaty, designed his spoons to be eco-friendly in several ways. Sorghum was chosen as the main ingredient of the spoons instead of rice, which requires 60 times as much water. Sorghum was also chosen for the strength it would lend eating tool, and the grain requires little water, low energy and no chemicals to grow.
In place of plastic
The goal that Peesapaty hopes to attain through Bakeys is to prevent plastic from any contact with food. Plastic products can contain cancer-causing substances that come into food, and average plastic bottles take 450 years to break down. In contrast, a Bakeys’ spoon is nutritious and break down in 10 days or less if thrown away. Peesapaty admits that using plastic is cheaper, but he also says that his spoons will be equally inexpensive when mass-produced.
【1】Why is “the edible spoon” called a revolutionary concept?
A.It is natural and eatable. B.It remains hard in hot foods.
C.It offers various flavors. D.It meets all customers’ requests.
【2】What’s Peesapaty’s main concern when choosing sorghum as main ingredient?
A.Being delicious. B.Being strong.
C.Being nutritious. D.Being eco-friendly.
【3】What’s the main advantage of edible spoons over plastic ones?
A.Cheaper. B.Breaking down easily.
C.Tougher. D.Contacting food directly.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It had been only two weeks since my family moved to the new house near the woods during my senior 2 holiday. Yesterday I heard a new noise in the woods, not drowned out by bird calls. My first thought, a hopeful one, was a deer. What if I had a deer family living in the woods behind my house? A peaceful animal to symbolize the gentleness of our new life? Or could it be something dangerous, even terrifying? A dangerous animal, a wild man? But no. This was our new home. Our new life. There would be no monsters (怪物).
It could be a groundskeeper. Who was I kidding with monsters? We moved to rural. This wasn’t an absolute wilderness. There were trails in these woods, maintained by the Homeowners’ Association. So, what was it in the woods?
I made a plan. I put on long pants and boots and announced that I would walk into the woods and found the trail. I would look for signs of life — animal droppings, fur, satanic (邪恶的) symbols. My sister, Roger, wanted in. My brother, Ben, was busy showing all his toys to our grandfather, who came to visit us.
Roger and I went to the edge of the property line and kept going. Birds got quiet, sensing strangers. We walked on, not paying particularly good attention to landmarks. Without much trouble, we found the trail and a banyan tree with multiple trunks shooting out from the ground. Roger immediately climbed it and declared, “This is the fairy tree!” She threw her arms in the air, and asked me to take a picture with my smartphone. She was in boots and a dress and looked perfect among the trees.
Walking deeper into the woods, we found a clearing with some downed trees and declared it the “play area.” She climbed the fallen tree trunks and jumped off them, sent up a puff of dust. We continued our adventure until it was getting dark, but found nothing. We decided to go back.
注意:
1. 写作词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Soon, I realized we were lost and couldn’t find the fairy tree.
