21、Americans like to travel during their holidays. Today, more and more travelers in the United States are spending nights at small houses or inns instead of hotels. They get a room for the night and the breakfast for the next morning.
Rooms for the night in private (私人的) homes with breakfast have been popular with travelers in Europe for many years. In the past five to ten years, these bed-and-breakfast places have become popular in the United States. Many of these American bed-and-breakfast places have only a few rooms. Some bed-and-breakfast inns are old historic buildings. Some inns do not provide telephones or television in the room while others do.
Staying at a bed-and-breakfast inn is much different from staying in a hotel. Usually the cost is much lower. Staying at an inn is almost like visiting someone’s home. The owners are glad to tell about the interesting places to visit in the area. Many vacationers say they enjoy the chance to meet local families.

22、 West Nile isa tropical disease that begins in birds, whichpass iton tomosquitoes that then go on to infect human begins with a bite. Most people who catch West Nile don’t experience any symptoms at all, but, if they do, symptoms typically develop between 3to 14 days after a mosquito bite. About 1 in 150 experiences high fever, shakes and unconsciousness. Some — especially the elderly and those with weak immune systems — die. That is what made the major outbreaks of West Nile in the U.S. in the summer of 2012 so terrifying.
The situation wasparticularly bad in Dallas,Texas, where the west Nile virus killed 10 people andsickened more than 200. The city announced a stage of emergency and began aerial spraying(空中喷洒)of chemical to kill the mosquitoes, even though local people argued that the chemical could be moredangerous than the disease.
Why was the summer of 2012 so welcoming tothe West Nile virus and the mosquitoes that carry it?Blame the weather. An extremely mild winter allowedmore mosquitoes than usual to survive, while theunusually high temperatures in that burning summerfurther increasedtheir number by speeding up theirlife cycle. The economic crisis may have also played a role: Homeowners who were not able topay their bank debts were forced to give up theirpossessions, sometimes leaving behind swimmingpools that made excellent mosquito breedinggrounds. The severity of tropical diseases is alsomatter of whether governments are able — andwilling — to defend their populations againstinfections. Dallas County was not doing some of the key things to slow the spread of West Nile, such astesting dead birds and setting mosquito traps to test forthe presence of the disease.

A.The increasing population. B.The government inaction.
C.The economic crisis. D.The weather.
【4】How is Paragraph 3 mainly developed?
A.By using figures. B.By giving examples.
C.By offering analyses. D.By making comparisons.
23、 Since App Store was set up, it has been selling consumers one simple thing — choice. Whether you wanted to play games, read the news, or do a thousand other things, there was something for whatever you desired.
Then something funny happened. Logging into the App Store today is like going into a shopping mall with only a coupon (优惠券) for one thing: There's so much choice; it might be easier to give up than to choose.
It isn't consumers who are burdened, though. Too much content of all kinds also has economic effects. When countless choices are available, it causes pressure, pushing prices down and driving us a bit crazy.
So what is the way forward? It may well be to tum less choice itself to the marketing strategy. There are already signs that this is happening. Firstly content companies are looking to prevent their offerings from getting lost in the tons of stuff. Most obvious is Disney, which is planning to open its own streaming service next year. The point is to narrow the focus so that those seeking Disney cartoons will have one place to go, rather than being around various services.
Yet if that represents a careful first step, there are more extreme options too. Consider the idea of a wine club: from tens of thousands of bottles each year, subscribers (用户) pay someone to select the most interesting ones. Perhaps what comes next for digital content is similar — carefully selected offerings from trusted sources that put choices in the hands of someone else in order to get rid of the anxiety of choosing.
Up to now, too much choice in digital media has only one solution: the algorithm (运算法则). But we've seen the trouble with algorithms on You Tube. They feed you only what you've already said you like, not things you may not know you're into. Worse, they have a tendency to serve up disturbing content. The way forward can't simply be more or better algorithms.
Instead, it's time for digital companies to start thinking about how to put limits on things: on how much we can use a device, or what we are available to choose from.
As we move further into the digital revolution, what people ask for is clear: Less.
【1】What will too much choice of content on the market result in?
A.The shutdown of companies. B.Anxiety of consumers.
C.Poor quality of products. D.Negative influence on economy.
【2】Why is Disney planning to open its own streaming service?
A.To improve its marketing strategy.
B.To help people focus on less choice.
C.To encourage more people to visit Disney.
D.To provide consumers with various services
【3】In what way may a wine club and digital content in the near future be similar?
A.Someone else will be employed to make a choice for consumers.
B.Both of them will offer only a few options.
C.Consumers will refuse to choose from too many options.
D.Both of them will make a change about their products.
【4】What do we know about the algorithm?
A.It manages to offer what consumers will possibly like.
B.It helps to remove disturbing content from digital media.
C.it offers consumers things based on what they've said they like.
D.It'll solve the problem of having too much choice.
24、“Instagram(a social networking app) will cut out many users’ accounts on December 20. To protect your account, repost this warning #KeepMyAccountSafe.” Every few months, it happens again-a dozen of annoying posts from my kids’ friends suddenly start to appear on my Instagram news feed.
According to a new study by Stanford University, most kids don’t know what news is fake. Researchers asked more than 7,800 middle school and high school students to complete 56 tasks, like distinguishing an advertisement from a real news story on a website and determining which blog in a series was most reliable. They found that students judged the credibility of blogs based not on the source of the material, but on how much detail they contained, or whether a large photo was attached.
“Many people assume that because young people are fluent in social media, they can distinguish fake news, but our work shows the opposite to be true,” wrote lead study author Sam Wineburg, a professor at Stanford’s Graduate School of Education.
Both Google and Facebook are now taking steps to control misleading news from making its way on their platforms, but they won’t be able to eliminate it completely. That is why it’s now more important than ever to teach our kids to think critically when it comes to believing various information sources.
“In the coming months, we look forward to sharing our assessments and working with educators to create materials that will guide young people in the sea of disinformation they encounter online,” said Wineburg.
【1】How does the author introduce the topic of the passage?
A.By stating opinions.
B.By showing findings.
C.By quoting sayings.

A.The source of the material.
B.The popularity of the website.
C.The amount of details.
D.The size of relevant photos.
【3】What does the underlined word “eliminate” mean in paragraph 4?
A.Digest.

C.Estimate.
