二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Travelling can be a way to gain life experiences, especially during Spring Break — a week long school vacation in the United States. But what if you're a student and don't have enough money for a trip? Don't worry. Here are some useful suggestions.

●Save: This probably is the most important preparation for travelling. Cut expenses to fatten your wallet so you'll have more choices about where to go and how to get there.

●Plan ahead: Don't wait until the last minute to plan your trip. Tickets may cost more when bought on short notice. Giving yourself several months to get ready can mean security(安全) and savings.

●Do your homework: No matter where you go, research the places you will visit. Decide what to see. Travel books will provide information on the cheapest hotels and restaurants.

●Plan sensibly: Write down what you expect to spend for food and hotels. Stick to your plan or you may not have enough money to cover everything.

●Travel in groups: Find someone who is interested in visiting the same places. By travelling with others you can share costs and experiences.

●Work as you go: Need more money to support your trip? Look for work in the places you visit.

●Go off the beaten path: Tourist cities may be expensive. You may want to rethink your trip and go to a lesser-known area. Smaller towns can have many interesting activities and sights.

●Pack necessary things: The most important things to take are not always clothes: Remember medicine in case you get sick and snacks in case you cannot find a cheap restaurant.

●Use the Internet: The Net can help to save money. Some useful websites include www. Travelocity. com, www. bargainslowestfare.com and www. Economictravel. com.

By planning sensibly, even students can enjoy the travel.  Your travel experiences will be remembered for a lifetime.

1This passage is mainly about ________.

    A. how to plan your travel

    B. how to travel with enough money

    C. how to make your travel interesting

2Before your trip, the first thing you should do is ________.

    A. to buy tickets in advance

    B. to make a plan of the route

    C. to save money by spending less

    D. to get information on the Internet

    3During your trip, ________.

    A. you need more shoes than clothes

    B. you shouldn't look for work all the way

    C. you can gain valuable life experiences

    D. you should forget to do your homework

  • 22、“A unique story of connection” is how South African filmmaker and naturalist Craig Foster refers to his underwater adventures with a wild common octopus documented in the film My Octopus Teacher.

The Netflix film shows the bond that develops between Foster and the eight-legged creature during a year of diving in a kelp forest in the Atlantic Ocean. It won this year’s Academy Award and British Academy Film and Television Arts Award for best documentary.

My Octopus Teacher has captured hearts worldwide because few of the many wonderful natural-history films are about a human’s relationship with the wild. “I think people around the world are longing to have some kind of real connection with the natural world, and this film speaks to that need,” Foster said.

He said he had many such experiences with nature, like having a fish swim into his hand or an otter swim with him and reach out and touch him. Still, he said, these strong bonds weren’t easily created often requiring years of tireless efforts. And he said he learned many lessons from the San masters, native people of South Africa’s Kalahari region. “They taught me to track on land and to look for signs. I applied those same lessons to looking in the water,” he said, “Tracking involves knowing the animals well and recognizing their behavior and movements.”

Observing his special octopus, part of a species known for its intelligence, has been a life-changing experience for Foster. One of the most remarkable moments was when the creature that initially hid in cracks allowed him to join her on a hunting expedition. How does Foster account for this? “When the same animal interacts with you every day over a long period of time, you can assume that there is trust involved.”

Foster said he learned that you can’t force this trust. “Everything must happen at the animal’s pace, comfort and convenience. In their eyes, we are big and aggressive, posing a threat to them. They make themselves vulnerable in allowing us into their space because trusting the wrong human could mean death. So it’s an immense privilege when they show trust.”

【1】Why is My Octopus Teacher well-received?

A.It shows adventures with a wild octopus.

B.It meets the need of natural-history films.

C.It has won many awards for best documentary.

【2】Which words can best describe Foster from his experiences?

    A.Talented and ambitious.

    B.Patient and persevering.

    C.Adventurous and stubborn.

    D.Professional and trustworthy.

【3】What can we learn from paragraph 5?

A.The octopus took Foster as a friend.

B.The octopus was curious about Foster.

    C.The octopus had human-like intelligence.

D.The octopus enjoyed inviting Foster to hunt.

【4】Which can best replace the underlined word “vulnerable” in paragraph 6?

    A.Easily hurt.

    B.Well protected.

    C.Very accessible.

    D.Extremely aggressive.

  • 23、From Santa Barbara to Scotland, strangers are becoming friends by going on bike rides together. They get paired up by Cycling Without Age, an organization that helps seniors go for bike rides, even if they can’t pedal themselves.

Hugh Lyon and David Lawrence, who are roughly 20 years apart in age, have been riding together for years. The 56-year-old Lawrence serves as a “pilot”, driving the trishaw-a bike with a passenger seat in the front that Cycling Without Age uses for their rides. They go for rides about once a week, often discussing the history of their town.

“Despite my deceased parents, it gives me a connection with people from an older generation,” said Lawrence, “and I enjoy spending time with them and hearing their Stories.” The pair have formed a friendship outside of cycling. Lawrence said he calls Lyon often and goes to the gym with him to help him with exercises he can’t do on his own.

Ole Kassow, who founded Cycling Without Age, said that’s the power of the program. “The truly powerful thing about these bike rides is that they tie people and stories together to create new relationships,” he told CBS News. “In my experience, friendships-and the ability to form new relationships at any age-are what define a good life, and often also a long and happy life.”

John Boettner started the Santa Barbara chapter. He has one rule for passengers. “They say, ‘What does it cost if I’m going to go for a ride?’ I say, ‘Here’s what it costs: You have to wave. If you don’t wave, I’m going to kick you out,’” he joked. He said he likes when they hit red lights, because it gives them a chance to connect with people on the road. “Driving the trishaw is the best advertisement for Cycling Without Age”, Boettner said, “When you take a 101-year-old woman for a bike ride and she holds your hand tight and says thank you and gives you a kiss on the cheek, it doesn’t get any better than that.”

【1】What benefit did Lawrence get from Cycling Without Age?

    A.Picking up forgotten stories.

    B.Improving his health condition.

    C.Understanding his parents’ love.

    D.Creating a relationship with seniors.

【2】Why did Ole Kassow mention “friendships”?

A.To share the pleasure of cycling.

B.To state the nature of happiness.

C.To show the value of the program.

D.To introduce the definition of a good life.

【3】What can we learn from Boettner’s words in the last paragraph?

A.The program needs to be advertised.

B.Passengers have to pay for their rides.

C.Red lights connect people with the pilots.

D.Bike riders feel content by offering rides.

【4】What message does the passage convey?

A.A true friend is one soul in two bodies.

    B.Be a rainbow in somebody else’s cloud.

C.Don’t go through life, grow through life.

    D.Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

  • 24、We know that choosing a college major can be very hard. But have no fear! Your choice of major will not lock you into a specific career for the rest of your life. Here’s what you need to know about college majors before you choose.

This varies widely according to schools and programs. Some schools may give you one year or more to decide. 【3】.

Desiree, a 4-year-old girl, was sobbing quietly over her father, Ken, who had died nine months earlier. She was hugging a photograph of her father with her fingers running around his face. “Daddy”, she said softly, “Why won't you come back?”

Instead of gradually adjusting to her father's death, Desiree refused to accept it “Daddy will be home soon,” she'd tell her mother. “He's at work.” When she played with her toy telephone, she pretended she was chatting with her father “I miss you, Daddy,” she'd say. “When will you come back?” Desiree's situation made her mother worried.

Days later, it was Ken's birthday. “How will I send him a card?” Desiree asked her mother “How about if we tie a litter to a balloon.” her mother said, “and send it up to heaven?” Desiree's eyes immediately lit up.

Her mother took her to a store and Desiree picked out a balloon with HAPPY BIRTHDAY above a drawing of The Little Mermaid (美人鱼). Desire and her father had often watched it.

The child's eyes shone as they were on the way to Ken's grave. Then Desiree dictated (口述) a letter to her Dad. “Daddy, Happy birthday, I love you and miss you,” she rattled off (快速说). “I hope you get this and can write to me on my birthday in January.”

Her mother wrote the message and their address on a small piece of paper, which was then wrapped in plastic and tied to the end of the string on the balloon. Finally, Desiree let fly the balloon. For almost an hour, they watched the shining spot of silver grow smaller and smaller till disappear. “Now Dad's going to write back to me,” Desiree said confidently.

Every day since they'd flew the balloon, Desiree had asked her mother, “Do you think Daddy has my balloon yet?” Several weeks passed, and she stopped asking.
