21、The COVID-19 pandemic(新冠疫情) has had one positive result: millions more Europeans have discovered the joy of cycling. ‘‘Cycling is easy,” says Tanja Jamnik. “Sitting on a bike, I feel very free.” The 57-year-old accountant from Slovenia is convinced of the health benefits. “Cycling is great for the whole body.” And there are advantages for mental health. “If I cycle alone, I switch my mind off and all the bad things go out of it. If I cycle with a friend, we talk so much that it’s like therapy(治疗)!” While Tanja and her husband, Andrej, have long enjoyed cycling, there are many newcomers to the activity.
She ascribes the recent rise in biking in her country to two factors. One is Slovenia’s extremely attractive performance in the 2020 Tour de France. The other, of course, is the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year when public transport was cancelled, and schools, sports facilities, restaurants and shops were shut, many more Slovenians discovered — or rediscovered — cycling.
“By the beginning of July, cycle shops in Slovenia were almost out of mountain bikes and expedition bikes.” Tanja and Andrej often tour their home country by bike, plus most years they have had cycling holidays in other places, too.
In fact, the whole of Europe has seen a surprising growth in cycling. Bike use was already high in some European countries, but numbers are increasing all across the continent as people get on their bikes for fitness, commuting(通勤) and leisure. In Finland, bicycle sales were up by 34 percent in 2020, and in January 2021 alone, the growth was a surprising 49 percent, according to the Finnish Cyclists Federation.

22、 This must be the coolest school ever…just look at their new classroom! Pupils at Milton Hall School in Essex will soon be treated to lessons inside an actual private jet (喷气式飞机).
The Cessna Citation jet was noticed by the school’s media manager Jon Baker, who was having a flying lesson at Southend Aiport. He thought it would make a good classroom. The school bought the disused private jet and said it was “a lot cheaper than building a classroom”. Once it’s washed and renovated (修复), it will be able 1o house classes of up to 5 children. “The children just want to get inside it, but we need to make it safe first,” Mr. Baker said. “I'll comfortably fit half a class when we're finished. The children have been writing stories about how they think it got there.” “It will receive a full makeover to tum it into a completely new exiting learning space ," Claire Reynolds, the school's business manager, said.
The city's health and safety team has examined the jet and will be monitoring the renovation. The school says it will take up to four months to change the space with seating, lighting and solar panels. “We have a lot of experts on site, including Mr. Baker, who’s a real plane enthusiast. It's his hobby,” Ms. Reynolds said. “Our school has limited space for expansion and we wanted to find an exciting and unusual way to further attract our children and expand on their learning.”
The jet will eventually become a center for ICT (Information and Communications Technology) and media studies. Teachers also hope the experience of learning inside such a special space will inspire the children’s creative writing.

23、How to Choose Your Purpose-Filled Career
When you think about choosing a career, you often do it in the following two ways.
Think about what you like to do. If you like writing or doing crafts, you might consider these things. This is not a bad way to go, of course, but you can’t always make money doing things you like (like video games or drinking beer). 【1】
Think about a well-paid job that you can do and doesn’t sound so bad. 【2】 Or maybe that’s out of your educational reach, so you choose office or retail worker. These are all great choices. But often they are not something you’re really passionate about. It’s kind of like just doing something because it’s there——not very inspired.
【3】 Try to do something to serve a community or make the world better. For example, taking care of children, because you really want to help children get a great start in life, or blossom into who they want to be or getting into government or social work to improve the conditions of the community you live in or becoming a scientist to help ease the environmental crisis or find a cure for a terrible disease. 【4】 And if you choose one of them for that purpose, you will serve in that work feeling a sense of purpose each day.
【5】 The point isn’t how you serve the world, but just serving the world in some way will help you feel filled with purpose. If you choose a purposeful and enjoyable job, you’re always further along than most people.
A.There are endless ways to do that.
B.Maybe a doctor, engineer or lawyer?
C.However, there’s another way that is perhaps better.
D.You are dreaming of a well-paid job which you like best.
E.It’s essential not to concentrate on interests and good payment.
F.Each of these is just one of many possibilities filled with purpose.
G.And sometimes things you like are better as a hobby or side passion.
24、 Music brings out the best in people, especially in the morning. If you usually wake up feeling sleepy, turn on your music playlist and play your favorite hits. You'll feel instantly happier, and more productive.
It lowers cortisol (皮质醇) levels. You can feel less stressed by listening to your favorite music, according to a study. The stress hormone, cortisol, will lower, and it seems that music speeds up the recovery time after a stress-causing event. So it's only logical that starting your day with a good song can relieve stress caused by external factors, and it will serve as a good start to the day.
Besides, it increases dopamine (多巴胺) levels. Music can increase the production of the dopamine hormone, which is one of the “happy” hormones directly connected to pleasure. It will help to relieve certain negative feelings of anxiety and depression. So if you wake up feeling down, turn on your music playlist.
Listening to music can strengthen your immune system. The sound of the tunes helps the body to produce more antibodies and natural killer cells. These cells can help you attack any viruses you might contract (感染). Basically, your immune system will be more effective at fighting any illnesses.
It stimulates memories. Music can help you remember more, no matter if you like upbeat or slow tunes. Your cognitive (认知的) function will improve once you put your jingle on, and over time, you'll benefit from a stronger memory, according to a study.
It also promotes your creativity. Before heading to the computer desk or laptop, put your headphones on and listen to some music, especially happy tunes. It seems that this type of jingle will make you a more creative person, so all those ideas you were waiting for will flood in. And if you start your workday by being more productive and kicking off all the points on your to-do list, it will definitely make you feel good about yourself.
