1、Making friends is a skill. Before you make friends, you have to decide whom you want to be your friends. Most people like to have friends who like to do the same kind of things as they do. 交朋友最快的方式是微笑.
When you smile, people think you are friendly to them and easy to talk to. It may not be easy to smile at first, but remember most people will stay away from an angry-looking face.To talk with others is a good way to make friends. One easy way to start a talk with someone is to say something nice about him. Think about how great you feel when someone says something nice to you. Doesn’t it make you want to keep talking to that person?
Ask your new friends some questions about themselves. Who are their favorite singers? Where do they live? 他们放学后做些什么?
There are all good questions to start a talk. Make sure you have something to add to the talk, too.
When someone asks you a question, you’d better have an answer for themRemember that nothing will stop a talk more quickly than a shrug for an answer.

24、 Completing chores promotes the development of many basic skills necessary for success in life. For younger children completing simple chores can improve coordination and motor skills (协调与行动技能). Completing chores also enhances a child’s ability to follow directions and helps develop planning and organization skills. Completing chores also helps children develop time management skills. Researchers found that children who did household chores also scored high on measures of academic success.
Doing chores also helps children develop a sense of responsibility. They not only engage in self-help skills which foster(培养) a sense of independence and a sense of shared responsibility. Successfully completing chores also promotes feelings of self-worth and belonging. When parents do everything, children may feel either dependent on others or may expect things to be done for them.
There is a reason we call chores, chores. Most people, including parents, don’t love doing them, but they need to be done anyway. It’s obvious that kids learning to take care of themselves and help around the house helps them to become more independent and ready for the freedom that will come when they get older. I think it is necessary to distinguish(区别) between self-help and maintaining the household. Some children consider picking up toys, making their bed, or even brushing their teeth as a chore.
The obsession with screen time by many children adds to the problem. They hate any activity that may rob(夺去) them of a few more minutes on their electronic devices. One rule of thumb(实用原则) should be that activities related to personal care, homework, and helping out the family or the family pet come first. When responsibilities are met and if there is time left, it can be used for recreational activities. The average kid in the U.S. receives an allowance (pocket money) of $800 per year. However, I believe that kids should do chores for the same reason parents do—because the chores need to be done, and not with the expectation of getting money. I suggest that an allowance ought to stand on its own, not as a payment but as a teaching tool. For example, allowances can teach kids about the value of saving, and how to plan to use money.
【1】The first paragraph is mainly about ______.
A.the benefits of kids doing chores
B.the skills a kid should have
C.the measures of academic success
D.the ways to be successful in life
【2】The writer probably agrees that ______.
A.pocket money can be a tool to teach kids about money
B.obsession with screen time may drive kids to do chores
C.kids know how to tell self-help from maintaining the household
D.kids can do everything on their own with the help of their parents
【3】The purpose of the passage is to tell readers ______.
A.doing chores is being responsible
B.kids should be away from screens
C.it’s good for kids to complete chores
D.kids who do chores are more independent

26、 I was in the seventh grade, and we had moved to New Jersey in November. By then, everyone already had had their own friends, and no one wanted to talk to a new girl. To make things worse, they put me in "Section L". I found out later that everyone called Section L "Loserville". It was sort of an open secret that it was the section for troublemakers and not-so-smart kids. When I found out, I wanted to scream. I had always been a good student and had amazing friends, and now everyone thought I was a loser!
I did text my friends in Illinois almost every night, especially my best friend, Ana. At first my friends wanted to hear all about it. But then some stopped texting back once I said something about how miserable (痛苦的) I was. One night when I was texting with Ana, I complained about another friend who had just done that. Ana's texts came really fast for the next few minutes and they surprised me. She said that she was tired of hearing about how bad everything was in New Jersey, too. She said she did not want to hurt my feelings, but that I needed to stop feeling so sorry for myself all the time, and I had to try to make things better.
The next day, I thought a lot about what Ana had said. She was right!
I wish I could say that everything changed overnight after that, but it didn't, I was still stuck in "Loserville", and some people were still mean (苛刻) to me, even though I tried to just stay out of their way.
But what did change was me-I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and did something about making friends. I signed up to make sets for the school play. I met a lot of new people there, and suddenly I had friends to say hi to in the halls!
I still miss Illinois sometimes, but life in New Jersey isn't so hard any more. Even though I couldn't change my situation, I could change my attitude-and that made all the difference.

Making a public speech is the thing that most people don’t want to do. The reason is that we are all afraid of making mistakes in front of others. The more important the speech is, the more frightened we will be. But forget it now. Public speaking is easy. It’s just a simple talking, Although I’m a shy man, I’ve been making speeches and talking on radio and television for more than 30 years. Anybody who can talk can speak in public. Here are some of the lessons I have learned:
Keep your speech simple. Your audience can’t take all of your main ideas, and they can only remember one or two of them, not ten or twenty. So you should prepare one or two of your main ideas very well. But if you can’t express what you want to say, then your speech will not be paid attention to. And if you don’t have a clear idea of what you want to say, your audience won’t, either.
Organize your speech well. No matter how long or short your speech is, you have to organize your speech—how you are going to open or begin, what main points you want to make and how you’re going to close or end. A strong close is usually very important and critical(关键的): the last thing you say is what your audience will most likely remember. If not, they will be confused.
Keep your speech not long. The standard length of a speech is usually 12 minutes. Most people can’t put their minds in one thing for too long time, which will make them tired and lose their interest. If you pay no attention to your audience’s reaction(反应),the audience will get bored. Of course, your speech will fail.
Following these suggestions above, you can make a good speech in public, and you will be an excellent speaker, I think.
