21、Everyday wear like casual shirts, T-shirts, and jackets, embroidered (刺绣) with traditional patterns from the Yi ethnic group, staged a striking show at recent New York Fashion Week, which took place on September 4th. Chinese designer Wang Ta’s new youth collection, decorated with Yi embroidery, a Chinese intangible (无形的) cultural heritage, was a definite hit on the last night of the fashion week.
The audience was amazed by both the beautiful and mostly hand-embroidered colorful patterns and the perfect balance of modern and traditional elements. Leah Coulter, a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, who dressed the models for the show, said the collection was a mix of old and new and loved all the patterns and embroidery, which aroused her interest in the unique handicraft dating back thousands of years. “I need to learn more about its history, " Coulter said.
It’s not something new in the fashion world to involve China’s intangible cultural heritages as elements of design, Wang said, but it’s not easy to make them into true fashion. Intangible cultural heritages should not always be displayed in museums or only appear on souvenirs. I hope to break the stereotype through using the Yi embroidery and make them everyday, fashionable items, " Wang told the media after the show. "I think fashion is the best way to introduce culture. "
Wang’s design ideas can be traced back to both her global experience as a fashion designer in Japan, the UK and China, and her unique educational background. Before receiving her second degree in fashion from Japan’s top fashion institute Tokyo Mode Gakuen, she majored in history at ECNU(East China Normal University)in Shanghai. In order to create her collection, Wang and her team went to Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture (自治州) in southwest China’s Yunnan Province and deeply studied the culture and history of Yi’s craftsmanship to gain insight into the essence, delicacy and symbolism of Yi embroidery. But Wang’s employing the patterns, colors and techniques of Yi embroidery in her contemporary fashion designs is not a simple imitation. The combination of modern and traditional parts can’t be too striking for it to be widely accepted as everyday wear, Wang said, adding that her goal is for people, regardless of gender, color or nationality, to like her designs.
【1】What made Wang Ta’s design appealing to the audience?
A.The totally hand-embroidered costumes in Yi culture.

D.The diversity of ethnic cultures displayed in the youth clothes.
【2】What does the underlined word “stereotype” in Paragraph 3 mean?

B.Her fashion educational background at ECNU.
C.Her working experiences in some European and Asian countries.
D.Her travelling experiences across ethnic regions in Yunnan Province.
【4】What is the text mainly about?

22、When Caleb Forbes got his first job at an advertising company at the age of 20, he thought he would be at the company for years. But after seven months he was bored. Soon after that, Forbes moved to London. He took four different jobs at three companies over the next five years. Forbes wanted a better job and higher pay---he was never quite satisfied.
Welcome to the world of a job hopper. Forbes’s story isn’t unusual these days and such frequent movement from one job to the next will become more common. The main reason: the nature of employment is changing. There are a lot more contracts and part-time jobs or flexible employment. That leads to people having a greater number of jobs. What’s more, layoffs(解雇) and pay freezes(冻薪), among other things, have pushed people from one job to another. In some cases, a bad worldwide job market has limited opportunities for star employees, promoting them to seek new challenges at other companies.
However, employers often think that if a person jumped from his last employer after a short period, he will likely do the same again --- there is a significant financial risk in hiring someone who leaves in short order.
What’s more, moving from company to company frequently doesn’t mean workers are climbing the corporate ladder(公司官阶) faster. In 2005, Monika Hamori, a professor at Spain’s IE Business School, looked at CEOs at about 55 to see if those who moved around more frequently climbed the ladder faster.
She found that executives who stayed with one company became CEOs after 23 years, while executives who changed companies many times became CEOs after 26 years. One reason: workers within the same organization tend to be promoted more frequently and be offered better jobs.

24、A British woman is celebrating after going a year without buying anything she doesn’t need to help the planet’s oceans.
Last December Becky Dell was inspired by the David Attenborough show Blue Planet to do her bit to help the environment. The Londoner decided to only buy food, drink and basic toiletries (洗漱用品) in 2019. Writing on Twitter Becky said she watched, with shame, plastic floating in the oceans and wondered how much was hers.
Therefore, aside from mascara (睫毛膏) , Becky did not buy anything she didn’t need. That meant “no clothes, shoes, presents, other makeup, hair products, jewellery, bags, decorations, plants, flowers, house items etc.”
Becky says that January to August were actually quite easy. And the money that she saved from not spending would be given to a selection of charities and grassroots organizations. Near the end of the year she ended up saving and donating £1,621.69, a sum far beyond her expectations.
But there were times when emergencies meant she had to buy something. On Twitter she said: “I bought 12 things during the year, for example, a new jacket when my zip broke while I was climbing a mountain, a couple of essential things for my very elderly cats and a couple of essential house items. Each one made me really annoyed!”
Happily, friends and family understood her challenge and supported her decision. And there were some things she really missed.
