二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   My notebooks and I are inseparable. Look inside, and you will find stories from a girl with a heart and a mind of her own. When I write, I create a world where I have complete control and can escape from the pressure of everyday life. My story ideas are so fluid that they can come at any time, so I always keep a notebook with me to record them.

I have been writing since the third grade when my teacher gave the class an assignment to write a short poem. My poem was called “Spring Time” and it was the first time I had discovered that writing my thoughts or feelings was good for me. It became my way to relax and to escape. I wrote every day and found myself more relaxed. In the fifth grade, my teacher “forced” us to keep a journal, but the requirement was not a problem for me since I was always writing. I wrote to entertain myself. I also wrote to rebel (反抗) whenever I was tired of having to become what society and the world around me expected me to be.

My stories have grown into books that I hope to publish. a major character turned up in my stories—Kasumi. She was the result of an innocent idea to be free from the restraints of the world around me. She says the things that I can’t say aloud. In her world, she easily faces and overcomes all difficulties. Kasumi is stubborn, fearless and brave. She also has a career and a family, which she holds together emotionally and physically, just as my grandmother has done.

My grandmother lives by a simple rule: if you don’t like something, open your mouth and say something about it. She does not limit her expressions because of society’s expectations. She sets an example to me and helps to define who I am as a young woman. In this way, my grandmother is reflected in Kasumi.

In the ninth grade, my ways of expression expanded into acting. Through acting, I have leaned how to communicate physically, verbally and emotionally. When I act, I am able to fall into the roles. Each role is a representation of me. I started acting with the role of Mrs. Fezziwig in A Christmas Carol. Two years later, I received my biggest part as a narrator (叙述着) in our production of Romeo and Juliet.

Through acting and writing. I have developed characters like the strong and outgoing women in my family. I have come to realize that writing and acting have helped me to become more independent and confident. Acting has increased my ability to work through the problems of everyday life.

On stage, the character’s feelings and problems become mine. Their voices are mine. The freedom of acting on stage has improved my writing, making me have the authority to create scenes that are more realistic. My stories in my notebooks are versions of the world around me that are enlarged by my imagination. I can break the limitation of reality by becoming a character on stage or entering a world I created in my notebooks. The authority I feel while playing a character on stage adds to my passion for excitement and adventure created in the universe of my notebooks.

1The author values her notebooks in that ________.

A.she likes writing all her secrets in the notebooks

B.she usually keeps her daily schedules in the notebooks

C.the notebooks provide her with a world where she can be herself

D.the notebooks have helped her form the habit of writing poems

2What can we know from the second paragraph?

A.The teacher was always hard on the students.

B.Becoming a famous poet is the author’s dream.

C.Some students found it difficult to keep a journal.

D.The author felt very stressed because of the teacher.

3What does the underlined word “restraints” probably mean in the third paragraph?

    A.limits B.desires C.promises D.experiences

4It can be inferred from the passage that ________.

A.the life on stage is far away from reality

B.the author improved her writing through acting

C.the author is afraid to be faced with her real life

D.the characters on stage often make people con fused

  • 27、   Myth: If you cut your hair, it will grow long faster.

Truth: That’s not true. “Your hair isn’t like a lawn or a rosebush, where cutting can stimulate fresh growth,” says Phillip Kingsley. The length of your hair is genetically determined. When it reaches a certain length, it stops growing. When you clear up the dead split ends, this makes your hair look healthier, but not necessarily longer.

Myth: If you skip meals, you lose weight fast.

Truth: There’s no truth in this advice. Not only will you not lose weight by starving yourself, but according to Carol Ann Rinzler, this may actually cause you to gain weight. Rinzler reasons that missing a meal causes your metabolism (新陈代谢) to slow down so that you burn food more slowly. This only makes you feel hungrier and by the time you finally do reach the table you will probably eat more food. Strange as it may seem, studies show that eating several small meals and snacks throughout the day is a more healthy way to lose pounds.

Myth: If you swallow goon, it will stay inside your stomach for seven years.

Truth: Actually, it takes just a few days for gum to make its exit - not seven years, says Nei Izenberg, M. D., editor of Kids Health organization. But because gum is made of the same thing as rubber, it cannot be fully digested in your stomach — so if you gum up the works on a regular basis, might find yourself in a stick situation.

Myth: The best way to stop a nosebleed is to lift your head back.

Truth: Now that’s bad advice. Bloody noses are caused by broken blood vessels, so while lifting your head back might stop the fluid from rushing out of your nose, it won’t stop the bleeding; you’ll just end up swallowing lots of blood. Your best bet? “Rest quietly. Don’t poke or pick, and the blood will naturally clot (凝结) within a minute or two,” suggests Dr. Izenberg.

1The length of your hair is determined by ________.

    A.cutting it often B.your gene

C.the food you eat D.clearing up the dead split ends

2According to Carol Ann Rinzler, skipping meals will ________.

A.help you lose weight fast B.help you lose weight slowly

C.cause you to become fatter D.make you burn food more quickly

3Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage?

A.Gum cannot be fully digested in the stomach.

B.Gum can stay inside your stomach for seven years if you swallow it.

C.Gun can leave your stomach after you swallow it a few days later.

D.If you often swallow gum, you might find yourself in a sticky situation.

4What does the phrase “best bet” mean?

A.A large sum of money. B.An impossible action.

    C.High expectation. D.A wise solution.

  • 28、   If parents praise everything their children do, it doesn't build their confidence and finally the Praise becomes meaningless.

Most parents and educators agree that praise is developing children's confidence, so the more praise, the better. Although praise is obviously good for children, if adults praise everything children do, the praise can finally lose its effect—youngsters will constantly seek praise.

Rather than responding to all of children's work with phrases such as “Good job” or “Nice work”, teachers should consider comments that describe the contents and encourage children to continue to improve, the researchers advise.

“Too much praise doesn't make children happier, achieve more or become more capable,” said Marshall Duke, a psychologist. Identifying a child's strengths and developing those strengths help build confidence more than constant praise does. Praise also loses its effect if the praise is the same for all the students. For example, if all the students in a class are told their paintings are great and students know some are better than others, the praise will lose its meaning.

“There is a need to have more room on either side of 'good'.” said Duke. “It's necessary to make detailed comments. Saying the truth properly is far more beneficial than empty praise.”

Adults have gotten into the habit of not telling children when they are wrong, and that will not help them deal with problems. Duke added, “That's not how the world is.”

【1】What will be the result if parents praise their children too much?

    A.They will always seek praise.

B.They will get very tired of it.

C.They will do better in their studies.

D.They won't get along well with others.

【2】What can parents do to build their children's confidence?

A.Praise them as much as possible.

B.Encourage them to go on improving.

C.Tell them to get praise from teachers.

D.Let them do more difficult work.

【3】What does Duke mean by saying “There is a need to have more room on either side of ‘good’” in paragraph 5?

A.Never say “Good job” to children.

B.“Good” is the best word for children.

C.It is important to praise children properly.

D.Children who often get “Good” from others will be successful

【4】What can be a suitable title for the text?

    A.The More Praise, the Better

    B.How to Praise Children Timely

C.Praise Is Always Good for Children
