22、I used to be crazy about the hunting season.
There’s a thrill in hunting, an excitement that comes over you when a deer crashes out of the bush. You are waiting for him with death. After hunting, you also feel great. There’s the bit of showing off with the boys—the fine head of the deer hung high up on the wall. There’s beauty in the woods, too, especially late in the fall. Sometimes you walk among the huge trees, where the sunlight filters through. It’s quiet and big, with touches of white and green and gold.
It was like that the last time I was in the woods. I was alone, packing a rifle and three thick sandwiches. I went up into the hills, heading for a well-used deer trail. Sure enough there were fresh tracks in the snow. I settled down behind a little bush for about an hour. It was then that I saw him. A deer, a big beautiful deer! Surely I couldn’t miss! I waited for him to realize I was there. I waited for him to be shocked and run away. But he fooled me completely. He came towards me! He was curious, I suppose, or maybe he was stupid.
He was not quite young. He must have known about men and guns. But he came closer, putting one foot before the other, slowly and purposefully. His big eyes never moved from my face. Well, that deer walked right up to where I was sitting. Then he stopped and looked at me!
What happened next is hard to believe, but it’s true. Just as when a friendly puppy comes near you, I reached up and scratched(搔) his head. And he liked to be scratched. In fact, he practically asked for more. I scratched his head and his nose poked at my shoulder. I fed him with my sandwich! Well, he finally went his way. Shoot him? Not me.
I started walking back. I was about half way back when I heard two shots. Those two shoots usually mean a kill. I had forgotten there were other hunters that day.
Those hunters would never know they could have scratched his head…

23、 Breathing is something you do all day long, without even thinking about it. However, you might be doing it wrong. Research shows that the way you breathe affects the amount of oxygen you take in, as well as how you think and feel.
So which is it? Do you breathe through your nose or your mouth? Some health experts recommend people breathe in through their nose and out through their mouth. Others say that people should just focus on breathing easily, paying no attention to their mouth or nose preference. But mouth breathing has also been connected with bad breath, snoring (打呼噜), high blood pressure and bad teeth.
Nose breathing may affect how memories are stabilized (稳定) in our brains, according to Swedish researchers. During the study, participants smelled 12 different smells and then were asked to breathe either through their nose or mouth for an hour afterwards. Then, they were presented with the original set of smells and a new set. Those who smelled with their nose remembered the smells better.
A research team recognized the differences in brain activity that occurred when seven epilepsy (癫痫) patients breathed through their nose or through their mouth. The team found three areas of the brain where activity is connected with breathing. These areas showed more changes in brain activity only when volunteers breathed in through their nose.
So, should mouth breathers change their breathing habits? If you’ re happy with the way you breathe and you aren’t experiencing any health problems, be yourself and just keep your own way. But if you think it might be time for a change, focus breathing through your nose until it becomes a habit. It might help you survive an emergency.

【4】What does the author think of nose breathing?
A.It, s hard to get used to. B.It’s suitable for everybody.
C.It’s what people have to do. D. It’s what people can benefit from.
24、 Inside WeWork’s New York City headquarters on a Thursday morning, a handful of kids are selling carrots and peppers. The children are members of WeWork’s first school, WeGrow, where farming is part of the curriculum. They are interacting with WeGrow employees browsing the goods. “How many carrots would you like?” one girl asks. “We take Apple Pay,” another shouts.
Founded in 2010, We Work has made a name for itself as a global network of coworking spaces. WeGrow is WeWork’s newest enterprise (事业) and its first attempt in the education industry.
WeGrow, a school which claims to grow “conscious leaders”,is inspired by the Montessori approach to learning that gives children the freedom to explore and choose their activities, so their nature of creativity and curiosity is preserved. But the goal is not to create next-generation CEOs. “Leadership is a bit of an exciting word for people,” said Rebekah, WeGrow’s founder and CEO, “We’ve seen children do such a thing forever —— running a lemonade stand every time , that’s what that is.”
WeGrow opened in the fall last year. Currently, 46 kids are enrolled in classes from pre-kindergarten to fourth grade. The kids start every morning with live music, followed by yoga. They spend time in nature and choose to take either Hebrew or Mandarin courses. WeGrow students learn science, math, social studies and language arts. It also has a program for kids to connect with WeWork community members with careers in areas kids might be interested in. But the main concern is that standardized tests are not available to measure the students’ overall progress.
They want to create an environment where people can work to make a life and not just a living, but that’s part of a larger mission to raise the world’s awareness towards creating a world where people are happy and fulfilled and living in a sharing state.
