二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Robots used to be found only in science fiction. In the 1960s, the animated space-age family the Jetsons had a robotic maid who could do household chores. In the 2014 movie Big Hero 6, the robot Baymax could diagnose and heal illnesses instantly. In real life robots function in many manufacturing and household situations. (Think workers in the automobile industry, robot toy pets and vacuum cleaners.) In the filed of medicine, robot patients help train doctors and nurses by pretending they have a variety of health conditions. 【1】

The global pandemic and resulting economic crisis have created a lack of restaurant workers. Since restaurants don't have enough workers, the remaining staff must work harder. Regardless, customers face longer wait times, fewer menu choices and higher prices. 【2】 These robots are not exactly modeled after Rosey, the Jetsons' robotic household servant, but they are pretty clever (and very cute).

【3】 Many have a design that looks like a rolling cart. One model named Bella even has a cute cat-like face. Many are fairly short and shaped like R2D2 of Star Wars fame. They are designed to deliver dishes to regular customers in a restaurant. They are also just the right height for customers to easily reach them. Restaurant owners are finding server robots ideal for performing repetitive tasks, however many there are. They can not only deliver delicious food to performing repetitive tasks, however many there are. They can not only deliver delicious food to hungry customers. but also get back dirty dishes at the end of the meal.

【4】 Concerning the price. a server robot costs from a few thousand to several thousand dollars. And in 2021, a restaurant even rented one for as low as USS15 per day. Regarding safety, special sensors on the robots keep them from crashing into customers. Because there aren't enough restaurant workers. filling positions with these robotic servers is a no-brainer. Don't be surprised if you see one rolling up to your table soon.

A.Robots are playing an important role in almost everywhere nowadays.

B.Some founders are lending a hand-a robotic hand-in the form of server robots.

C.Perhaps you're wondering about issues such as the cost and safety factors.

D.Workers are afraid of being replaced by robots in the future.

E.Now robots are finding a home in the food service industry.

F.Server robots come in several different varieties

  • 22、At thirteen, I was diagnosed(诊断)with a kind of attention disorder. It made school difficult for me. When everyone else in the class was focusing on tasks, I could not.

In my first literature class, Mrs. Smith asked us to read a story and then write on it, all within 45 minutes. I raised my hand right away and said, “Mrs. Smith, you see, the doctor said I have attention problems. I might not be able to do it.”

She glanced down at me through her glasses, “you are not different from your classmates, young man.”

I tried but I didn’t finish the reading when the bell rang. I had to take it home.

In the quietness of my bedroom, the story suddenly all became clear to me. It was about a blind person, Louis Braille. He lived in a time when the blind couldn’t get much education. But Louis didn’t give up. Instead, he invented a reading system of raised dots(点), which opened up a whole new world of knowledge to the blind.

Wasn’t I the “blind” in my class, being made to learn like the “sighted” students? My thoughts spilled out(溢出) and my pen started to dance. I completed the task within 40 minutes. Indeed, I was not different from others; I just needed a quieter place. If Louis could find his way out of his problems, why should I ever give up?

I didn’t expect anything when I handed in my paper to Mrs. Smith, so it was quite a surprise when it came back to me the next day--- with an “A” on it. At the bottom of the paper were these words: “See what you can do when you keep trying?”

【1】The author didn’t finish the reading in class because________.

A.He was new to the class

    B.He was tired of literature

    C.He had an attention disorder

D.He wanted to take the task home

【2】What do we know about Louis Braille from the passage?

    A.He had good sight

B.He learned a lot from school

    C.He gave up reading

    D.He made a great invention

【3】What was Mrs. Smith’s attitude to the author at the end of the story?

    A.Angry

    B.Impatient

    C.Encouraging

    D.Sympathetic(同情的)

【4】What is the main idea of the passage?

A.One can find his way out of difficulties with efforts.

B.teacher can open up a new world to students.

C.Everyone needs a hand when faced with challenges.

D.The disabled should be treated with respect.

  • 23、One of the most important ways to learn and master the English language is to read, read, and read. It is said that a good reader is also a good writer and a good speaker. However, in today’s world, reading is something that most children dislike doing.

There are simply so many distractions (分心的事物) that books, magazines, and newspapers are often ignored and they are in favor of video games and movies. And while video games and movies also play a role in helping the child learn the English language, they still can’t quite compare to reading.

And as a result, kids are learning less and less. Take a look at an elementary level text book. You’ll notice that the books for elementary students are filled with pictures and colours. Those pictures and colours in the elementary level text books aren’t there just for the sake (缘由) of design. Colours and pictures make us more engaged in the act of learning grammar. They catch our attention and help us retain (保留) more of what we read. This is especially true for little children who enjoy fun English.

Children are quite easily distracted. When you ask them to sit down and read quietly, their minds will often wander and it won’t take long before you find them doodling (涂鸦) and not doing what you told them to do. But if a book is colourful enough to catch a kid’s attention, then you’ll have a better chance at getting the kid to sit down long enough to learn English.

The same principle holds true for interactivity (互动). Like colours and pictures, interactive reading materials like English songs for kids also get the child engaged in what he or she is learning. Interactive reading materials get the child to focus since using them is almost like playing.

    【1】Why do children dislike reading?

    A.They prefer newspapers.

    B.They prefer films.

    C.They prefer magazines.

    D.They prefer books.

【2】Children will be interested in books that are .

    A.full of pictures

    B.explained clearly

    C.written clearly

    D.not very hard

【3】Colorful books can help the children .

    A.do what they prefer

    B.have a good time

C.fix their attention for a longer time

    D.sit still and quietly

  • 24、Post-00s is a documentary about growing up. It covers almost every aspect of millennials’ experiences on their path toward adolescence ---their struggles with schoolwork, their relationship with peers, their confusion if a younger brother or sister is born into the family, and their growing desire to keep a distance from their parents. But this five-episode series was different from any other TV program with a similar theme.

Post-00s was filmed over a period of 10 years, during which the show’s makers followed a group of kids from when they were infants through to when they became teenagers. In other words, the show’s“characters”grow older for real, and their stories are all real.

“Coming-of-age”stories, as they’re known, have a special appeal. They satisfy our curiosity of looking at someone else’s life, and we become more and more attached to the characters as if we truly know them. And while we enjoy the truthfulness of the stories because nothing is set in advance, we also can’t help but feel the cruelty of reality. After all, there’s no re-writing of the script and there’s no turning back--- this is real life.

This realness can also be seen in Boyhood, a 2014 film that won the Silver Bear award for best director at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival. During a period of 12 years, the film follows the life of Mason Jr. --- played by US actor Ellar Coltrane --- from when he was 6 to when he finished high school.

One of Boyhood’s appeals comes from its “ordinariness”. Mason Jr isn’t some child genius... He is a quietly spoken, fairly typical American boy, growing up in the Texas suburbs. He likes riding his bike and playing video games.

While coming-of-age stories may look ordinary on the outside, they often allow us to look underneath the surface and see something extraordinary – the power of life itself.

1In the documentary, we see post-00’s growing experience EXCEPT __________.

    A. how they escape from their studies

    B. how they get along with people of their age

    C. how they help feel about their younger brothers or sisters

    D. how much they long to be independent of their parents

2Post-00 is different from other TV programs with a similar theme in that _____________.

    A. it focuses on millennials’ life experience on their path towards adolescence

    B. the stories of its main characters are real

    C. It was filmed over a period of 10 years

    D. It has five episodes

3Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?

    A. Life is one big story   B. Actors are ordinary characters

    C. Documentary is real life   D. Post-00s are coming!
