  • 21、Many people think of guys as being carefree when it comes to their appearance. But in fact, a lot of guys spend plenty of time in front of the mirror.【1】

Body image is a person’s opinions and feelings about his or her own body and physical appearance. 【2】You appreciate your body for its abilities and accept its imperfections.

So,what can you do to develop a positive body image? Here are some ideas:

Recognize your strengths. Different body types are good for different things. What does your body do well? Maybe your speed, strength, or coordination (协调) makes you better than others at a certain sport. That may be basketball, table tennis, mountain biking, dancing, or even running. Or perhaps you have skills, like drawing, singing, playing a musical instrument, writing, or acting.【3】

Exercise regularly. Exercise can help you look good and feel good about yourself. Good physiques (体形) don’t just happen. 【4】You can keep healthy by simply exercising 20 minutes to one hour three times a week. Taking exercise can also lift your spirits.

Respect your body! Practising good habits- regular showering; taking care of your teeth, hair, and skin; wearing clean clothes, and so on-can help you build a positive body image.

  • 22、Until now the usual way we identify dogs is with micro-chipping. In some countries it’s even the law. But a company from South Korea has developed an app that can identify dogs a little less invasively. On this phone, I’ve got the new app, PetNow, which is now using the dog’s nose print to identify a dog, just like you can use a fingerprint with a human to make identification. A dog’s nose print is very similar as well.

“Now show me your nose, buddy.” It takes me a few seconds to take pictures of the dog’s nose. “Oh yes, I made it, okay! Then who is the dog? Is it Emma, Lenard, Karl, or Ethan?”

The app analyses the data in the cloud and tells me that this is Emma, and not only that, it’s showing me that Emma’s been reported as missing. And it’s telling me where she was reported missing, and I can share my location with the owner, so they can be reunited.

Unlike a micro-chip, which could be cut out of a stolen dog, you can’t really remove a dog’s nose, not without spoiling the dog. And by using the phone’s camera to scan, anyone in theory can check a stray dog without any specialist equipment.

Recently, I’ve spoken to PetNow to find out why they’d settled on nose prints for dog recognition. There may be paws or ears, but some dogs really hate showing up, sharing their paws or their ears. Nose is actually exposed all the time. And after a dog become six months old the nose print stays there their entire life, so we believe that it is the best part for identification.

PetNow hopes its app will become mandatory in South Korea to help reduce the number of dogs that are abandoned by pet owners. To do that they will need the backing of government and a huge marketing push, so that everybody including people who don’t own a dog must install the app and know how to use it.

【1】Which can be inferred from the passage?

    A.Dogs’ prints are very similar.

B.Micro-chipping a dog is out of date.

C.The app can map out a lost dog’s original place.

    D.The app requires specialist equipment.

【2】Why did PetNow settle on nose prints for dog recognition?

    A.Because a micro-chip can be cut out.

B.Because some dogs hate showing up.

C.Because their nose print never changes.

D.Because their nose is easy to be photographed.

【3】Which of the word best explains the underlined word “mandatory” in the last paragraph?

    A.safe.

    B.required.

    C.professional.

    D.easy.

【4】What’s the best title of the passage?

    A.Taking Pictures for Dog’s Nose.

B.Nose Print Technology on the Way.

    C.PetNow Saves Abandoned Dogs.

D.PetNow Identifies Dogs with Nose Print.

  • 23、An African proverb says that a single hand cannot tie a bundle. Everyone needs companions to help them sail through the rough seas of life. Even the strongest and richest person still needs friends. Our money and strength would have no value if we had no friends to share with us. The best friendship is a give-and-take relationship. We need the support of our family, friends and the community. In turn we also give support to the society, our friends and our family.

The word “friend” has many meanings. It could be the bus driver who takes you to and from work every day. It could be a parent, a colleague, a wife or husband, a brother or sister, or even the unknown person who helped you just once when you could not find your way. Real friends share not only our happiness but our sorrows as well. This may explain why we have the expression “a friend in need is a friend indeed”.

Friendship is like the sunshine that keeps us warm. It is like the refreshing raindrops on the fields that give the farmers hope of a good planting season. Without friends our life would be like a desert where our only friend would be loneliness and sadness. The most fortunate person is the one who has friends from all levels in the society. A driver might find friends not only among his colleagues but among farmers, bankers, traders, students, politicians or teachers. We should never forget our old friends when we make new ones. We should treasure each of our friends whether poor or rich, beautiful or not. Each friend is unique in his or her own way. And all together, they enrich life and make it very colourful.

【1】What is the main topic of the passage?

    A. How to sail through the sea of life.

    B. Friends and friendship.

    C. A friend in need is a friend indeed.

    D. Never forget old friends when making new ones.

【2】What is the correct understanding of friends according to the writer?

    A. Friends who share our happiness are not real friends.

    B. Friends will take us through rough seas.

    C. Friends never expect anything from others.

    D. Friends can be different people around us.

【3】An unknown person can be a friend as well when   .

    A. he helps you with what you need

    B. he is told how to find his way

    C. he becomes one of your family

    D. he is a driver taking you from and to work

【4】The underlined word “unique” in the last paragraph most probably means ”.

    A. special B. poor   C. rich D. valuable

  • 24、How to Organize Your Digital Files

Searching for a file on your computer is a whole lot easier than digging through a pile of papers, yet it’s far from being a perfect system. Lately, it’s been hit-or-miss for me. 【1】 I hope some of these tips will help you.

Use “resources”, “in progress”, “final”, and “scrap” folders for projects.

There are plenty of ways to title your subfolders for projects, but one of the most intuitive(使用简便的) is to have folders for stages of your project. 【2】

The “resources” folder is for things like images, documents, and other items that are needed to complete your project. 【3】“Final,” as you might imagine, is for the project files once the project has been approved and is done. “Scrap” is for anything you want to save from the project that doesn’t belong in the “final” folder.

    【4】

It’s near impossible to find a photo quickly when you have thousands of photos all named something like “20211108_0978234.jpg.” So for photos, I like to have a date structure and folders for key events or categories, such as: 2021 >01 (for the month)>2021-01 Mom and Dad 50 Anniversary LA. This way, you can either browse your photos by year and month or search for folders that include “Mom”, “Dad”, “Anniversary”, or “LA.”

    Use tags.

In addition to creating a folder structure that works for you, consider tagging files. 【5】 Say, for example, you want to see all of your photos for all of your holiday celebrations. You can set up a tag for “holidays.” And then to narrow down the results, you can search using the tag.

A.With tags, you can connect multiple files across folders.

B.For photos, use a date structure and keywords for your folders.

C.This way, you can always know which is the final project file to grab.

D.The standards will keep files organized and make them easier on the eye.

E.“In progress” is for the current working version or versions of the project.

F.To find files more efficiently, I’ve been rearranging my digital filing system.

G.Move your photos to a more specific folder or back them up on an external storage device.

  • 26、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

That day, I was going to skate a clean freestyle program for the first time in a year. I determined to land the axel (前外一周半跳) in competition.

“I can make it!” I thought as I skated to the center ice. When my music sounded, I started my program with a circular step and a bright smile, followed by a beautiful combination spin. Flying camel, sit spin, layback spin. Perfection. The jump! The axel!

I could do it when I practiced off-ice, but I’d only landed it on-ice approximately fourteen times in my entire life. So I was a little nervous. I’d leave it out if I could, but my Olympic dreams depended on it. My coach, Geena, put it early in my program so I could do it while my legs were not tired. Taking a deep breath, “I can succeed!” I thought.

I was on the right back outside edge of my skate blade (冰刀), ready to turn forward and launch into the axel. My nerves were back, working against me. “I can do this!” I thought. I stepped into takeoff and I did… a waltz jump (半周跳). It is a jump I’d been doing since I was pretty young. It is only one-half a rotation (旋转) instead of the one and one-half that I need for the axel.

I glimpsed Coach Geena’s questioning eyebrow as I glided past the door and imagined the disappointed looks on my parents’ faces. “It’s not over,” I reasoned to myself, glancing into the bleachers (露天座位). “I’d just replace the next jump with the axel.”

However, it didn’t work out the way I’d hoped. I fell, and I kept falling. Never one to give up, I replaced every jump in my program with the axel, but I didn’t land one. I spent so much time on the ice that it’s like I was making sure the ice was clean for the next skater. The two minutes, fifteen seconds of my program felt like an age. By the time I was done, my dress was soaked through and I was seven seconds behind my music, so I finished skating to silence.

    注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

    2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。

As I skated toward the exit, I felt everyone was looking at me with pity.
