六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   A survey (调查) in the United Kingdom asked people about life after lockdown (封城). The market research and data analytics (分析学) company You Gov asked 4,343 people about life after the lockdown ends. The company said they were surprised by the people's answers. Only nine percent of Britons want life to return to "normal" (正常状态) after the coronavirus (冠状病毒) outbreak is over. This means 91 percent want life to be different to how it was before the pandemic (大流行病) started. Over half of people (54%) said they hoped to change the way they live their lives. Lead researcher Professor Tom MacMillan said: "This data shows there is a real want for change, and for the nation to learn from this crisis (危机)."

Most of the people in the survey said they noticed big changes because of the lockdown. Just over half (51%) have noticed cleaner air outdoors, and 27 percent have seen more wildlife in the past month. This may encourage people to use cars less when the lockdown ends. Maybe more people will work from home. Many people (42%) said they value food more, and 38 percent said they are now cooking by themselves and not buying ready-made meals. Another change could be a stronger sense of community. Over 40 percent of people said they now talk to people who live near them. Professor (教授) MacMillan said, "People are trying new things and noticing differences at home, in their work and in communities."

4What changes may take place after the pandemic ends according to the survey?

People use cars less. People talk to their neighbours more.

More people work from home. More people cook by themselves at home.

    A.①②③ B.①③④ C.②③④ D.①②③④

  • 22、Do you plan to go to Hong Kong Disneyland with your family this summer? If your dad smokes, you may have to ask him to be careful because Hong Kong bans(禁止) smoking in most public places.

  • 23、   What exactly is persuasion? Persuasion is a process that enables you to change others' attitudes, opinions, or behaviors. When you are watching TV, there are so many advertisements to persuade you to buy their products. When your naughty son does not like to write his homework, you will punish him, which is also a persuasion.

Persuasion is a very important skill nowadays. It is fulfilling everywhere, every time. In many ways, persuasion combines art and science. It's an art in that it requires the ability to establish trust and strong communication skills. It's a science in that it centers on the disciplined collection and analysis of information and solidly researched principles (原则) of human behavior. Persuasion is everywhere, but the effect is very different.

When we persuade, first we should be believable. If someone is an expert in a certain field, his or her speech will be convincing when he or she expresses opinions about this field. It is interesting that if someone's aim is not to affect your opinions, and he or she has no benefit from your decision, this person seems to be more trustful. What's more, we need to be attractive. If we like someone, we will be affected by him or her on some unimportant topics. Even if this person tells us he or she wants to affect, maybe we will also be affected.

The methods of persuasion are necessary too. First you should think wise for choosing your topic. A good topic is a big impact to catch your audience. Then when you have done selecting topics, now it's time to brainstorm how you will have a deep conversation with your audience to give them more ideas about your topics. And think about who your listener is and what they want to know. How will you catch their attention to become more interested in your subject? Next, understanding your audience can help you deliver the right information that is valuable to them. To get your audience, try to add some personal experience in your topics. The way you talk to them expresses your feelings and knowledge, and it really works.

Everyone is trying to persuade someone and being persuaded. So next time you listen to a speech, watch an advertisement, think of persuasion.

1In Paragraph 2, the writer thinks persuasion is an art because ________.

A.they both need skills to achieve B.they both have the same topic

C.they both make the audience laugh D.they both deliver the right information

    2Paragraph 3 is mainly about ________.

A.the meaning of persuasion B.the characteristics of persuaders

C.the importance of persuasion D.the methods of persuaders

3Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

A.Are Advertisements Worth Trusting? B.Persuasion -The Effects are Different

C.Are Good Topics Important for Persuasion? D.Persuasion -An Important Social Skill

Have you ever experienced the feeling of falling as you start to fall asleep? Sometimes you may wake up to this feeling. If so, don’t worry. Many people have felt the same thing.

In fact, these muscle twitches(肌肉抽搐)in the arms, legs or other parts of the body are called hypnic jerks(入嚼抽动)or sleep starts. And they are very c【1】 . Up to 70 percent of people experience them sometimes, Huffington Post reported. But what causes it?

There are some theories(理念). Some scientists believe that the feeling of falling comes from the body relaxing itself, especially if the person is anxious or unable to get comfortable. A【2】 you’re going to sleep, your muscles become relaxed. But your brain s【3】 awake. It misunderstands the relaxing of your muscles as a sign that you’re falling. The brain then jerks the body awake as if it’s trying to protect you.

Other scientists believe that different phases of sleep might cause the hypnic jerks. When we sleep, we experience two phases non-rapid eye movement (NREM,非快速眼动睡眠期) and rapid eye movement (REM,快速眼动睡眠期). During REM, our heart rate, breathing and nervous s【4】 can fact irregularly. If the body experiences flashes(一瞬间)of REM while entering sleep, these irregularities could cause twitches.

If you don’t want to experience hypnic jerks, scientists have some suggestions. When you become r【5】 relaxed, you can learn how to reconnect slowly by moving your fingers and toes a little bit. Then start to move your head and open your eyes, while being aware of yourself as you get out of the relaxed state.

But experts agree that hypnic jerks, though sometimes scary, are homeless. If it wakes you up, simply roll over and go back to sleep,. But keep in mind: a caffeinated(含咖啡因的) drink, e【6】 evening activities or stress may make hypnic jerks happen more often.
