21、The moon's permanently shadowed areas, nearly 384,000 kilometers away from home, are the closest water source outside the earth. The craters have been dark since billions of years ago. But now with student-developed technologies, more about them can be discovered.
Through the competitive Breakthrough, Innovative and Came-changing(BIG) Idea Challenge and the Space Grant project, NASA has awarded nearly $1 million to eight university teams. They will build sample lunar payloads and demonstrate innovative ways to study the moon's darkest areas.
“It's an exciting time for NASA and students across the country,” said Drew J. Hope, Program Manager of Game Changing Development program. “Thanks to our partnership with the Office of STEM Engagement, this is the most money NASA has awarded in a student challenge directly connected to Artemis.”
The chosen teams will work out ways to gather data in and around the craters, generate wireless power for future infrastructure, and enable autonomous mobility even in the most extreme environments, The research results could benefit NASA's Artemis program and be used to study the moon ahead of a human landing in 2024 or help establish a sustained presence by 2028. Each team will receive different amounts of grants, based on the concept and budget they propose. They will develop and test the technologies in simulated environments with the awards during the following 10 months, showing they are prepared for a possible lunar mission as early as 2023. Then in November 2020, a panel of NASA and industry experts will examine the team's research and development results at a face-to-face design review.
“One of the most exciting things about this challenge is that several of the concepts, if proven to be viable as a result of these awards, could eventually be integrated and operated together on the surface of the moon, “according to Chad Rowe, Acting Manager of Space Grant Project. “These students are part of the Artemis generation and they are helping fulfill NASA's mission needs today, while developing relevant hands-on experience that will prepare them for aerospace careers after graduation.”
【1】What can we know from Paragraph 1?
A.The moon can't serve as a water source for us.
B.Some students are working in NASA.
C.The moon is the only water source outside the earth.
D.We can explore more about the moon.
【2】Why did NASA award those eight university teams?
A.Because they stood out in a challenge and a project.
B.Because they demonstrated technologies to study the moon.
C.Because they explored the mystery of space.
D.Because they challenged NASA's Artemis program.
【3】What will the chosen teams work out according to Paragraph 4?
A.The way to create WIFI on the moon for future use.
B.The way to ensure autonomous mobility can be used in space.
C.The way to examine the research and results face-to-face.
D.The way to collect information and statistics of the moon.
【4】According to Chad Rowe, what benefit can the students get from the project?
A.They can land on the moon.
B.They can get money while doing the job.
C.They can gain experience for their future careers.

22、Researchers in China and the United States have developed a new cataract(白内障)treatment with cells that has restored vision in babies in a trial and may eventually be used in adults.
The treatment-by doctors and staff members at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and Sichuan and Sun Yat-sen universities in China-was published in March 9 edition of the scientific journal Nature.
A cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens(晶体)of an eye. Typical cataract operation involves the removal of the cloudy lens and the insertion of an artificial one. The new operation has been tested in animals and during a small, human trial. It resulted in fewer complications(并发症)than the current harmful operation, and in regrown lenses with superior visual function in all 12 of the baby cataract patients who received the procedure.
A congenital cataract-lens clouding that occurs at birth or shortly after- is important cause of blindness in children. In the new research, K and Zhang, head of ophthalmic genetics at US San Diego’s Shiley Eye Institute, and his colleagues relied on the regrown potential of endogenous(同源的)stem cells.
According to Zhang, endogenous stem cells are different from other stem cells that are typically grown in a laboratory, transplanted into a patient, and can have risks of immune(免疫的)rejection, infection or cancers. Zhang told CBS News, “We invented a new operation to make a very small opening at the side of a cataractous lens bag, remove the cataract inside, allow the opening to heal, and promote potential lens stem cells to regrow an entirely new lens with vision.”
The human trial involved 12 babies under the age of 2 who were treated with the new method, while 25 babies received the standard operation care. The latter group experienced a higher incidence of post-operation danger, early- onset eye high blood pressure and increased lens clouding. The scientists reported fewer complications and faster healing among the 12 babies who has the new procedure.
【1】What is the text mainly about?
A. A new cataract treatment with stem cells.
B. The concept of the cataract.
C. Bad effects of post-operation in the cataract.
D. The reasons why the cataract comes into being.
【2】Which of the following best describe the new cataract treatment according to the passage?
A. Convenient. B. Comfortable.
C. Safe. D. Cheap.
【3】What can we learn about the new cataract treatment?
A. It may be used widely. B. It has more risks.
C. It has been put into practice widely. D. It can only restore vision in babies.
【4】What does the underlined word “congenital” in the fourth paragraph mean?
A. Strange. B. Born.
C. Serious. D. Dangerous.
23、In the last few weeks, donations have been mailed to community organizations in and near Red ford Township by the sender who only identifies as “Anonymous – 1679,” according to My Fox Detroit.
So far, envelopes, each filled with $ 1,000 cash, have been sent to the local library, an animal welfare non-profit, a civic and leadership training group, a credit union and the Red ford Good fellows, a group that helps needy families get holiday meals and gifts for their children.
There is one clue about the identity of the giver. According to the Observer & Eccentric, the Community Choice Credit Union in Red ford received the first envelope, which also included a riddle: “Know the clue, Know the who, Anonymous - 1679.”
Spread around one community, the donations could make a serious impact.
The credit union told the paper that the donation will go to their foundation, which gives up to $ 100,000 in college scholarships to Michigan high school graduates each year.
Tail Waggers 1990 in nearby Livonia helps owners provide for their pets, offering low-cost vaccinations, a pet food pantry and assistance for pets with serious health problems. Their donation will go toward their new animal clinic, they told Fox.
Cindy Doyle, secretary for the Redford Goodfellows, said that their $1,000 donation will likely cover food, clothes and presents for 10 families; last year the organization served 225 families total.
“That money will go a long way to brighten the Christmas of several children this year,” the Redford Township Police posted on Facebook, on behalf of their department and the Goodfellows. “To that generous person... Thank You!”
Anonymous 1679 has given more than money — he or she has also directed attention to some of the organizations helping the community, and may even inspire others to give. Potential donors should keep in mind that while receiving mysterious cash in the mail may be exciting, the U.S. Postal Service recommends sending money orders rather than currency in case mail is lost or stolen.

C. Sending cash will be forbidden by the U.S. Postal Service.
D. The act of Anonymous 1679 is of great significance.
24、Children's fiction typically refers to any type of fictional work of writing that is written specifically for children. 【1】 The most common types include those told in poem form, stories for very young children, and works meant for older children. They can include older and traditional stories, such as nursery rhymes and fairy tales, as well as more modem stories that have been written more recently. Many works of children's fiction use songs and rhythms. 【2】
Though some children's fiction is intended for children of all ages, many works are specifically written for younger or older children. Picture books, for example, are often written for very young children, including toddlers(学步的小孩)and those just beginning to develop language. 【3】 They are frequently written in poem form as well, and can feature word choices that are intended to help young children begin to develop language. They have a very small vocabulary, frequently repeating words to allow children to hear them many times.
Children's fiction that is written for older children, on the other hand, may deal with more complex ideas that older children can understand. 【4】 This allows children who are learning to read to practice with words that are repeated and familiar, while still exposing them to a wide range of words. These works of children’s fiction often still have pictures, though there may be more words than pictures. 【5】 They help children move from picture books toward children's literature and young adult books.
A.These books are often quite short in length.
B.They are typically meant as a bridge for children.
C.Kids aren5t the only ones reading children’s fiction.
D.There are many different types of children's fiction.
E.Books for young readers often deal with very interesting topics.
F.This allows such works to be more easily read aloud to young children.
G.These works may also repeat words, but often have a larger vocabulary.
25、Often, we know what makes us happy... but, despite this, often we don’t put the theory into action. Why do I (the person who tells you that taking breaks _________ stress and makes you more efficient) sit at my computer eating my lunch? I know this is unhelpful for me, so what on earth is going on? It all started at a time of huge pressure when I was training, and I began eating my lunch at my desk to _________ time. I did it over and over again until it became _________ to my brain.
My brain will choose this route by default (默认情况下), because it is the most learned behaviour. Something in my office _________ (probably my stomach rumbling (发咕咕声) will send a signal to my brain that it’s lunchtime, and I will pick up my sandwich and eat it with very little _________. It is a no-brainer to my brain; it’s just what it does.
Habits don’t _________ new learning from the brain; they are stored as a sequence of activities in the brain. The brain adds a routine of behaviours together so they all happen _________ in sequence when activated by a signal (that rumbling stomach) to get us to a reward (my lunch), which _________ strengthens that learned behaviour. Your brain uses habits to _________ effort and save energy, and will default to these behaviours when signalled. How can we build happiness habits into our lives?
Step 1: What is it that you want to do
Decide what you want to __________ as small daily habits. Next, think about how and when you will do this. __________, consider the habits that affect happiness negatively and that you want to break. Like me, do you want to __________ eating lunch at your desk and get outside instead?
Step 2: Be __________ about your why
What will you gain from this new happiness habit? Why is it important to you? This helps you to want to make the effort to break your default habits.
Step 3: Be specific
Decide when specifically you will __________ your new habit and what you will do — for example, “I want to go for a walk to connect with nature at lunchtime.” Start as small as you can, because this is more likely to be achievable, repeatable and rewarding — three things we need to happen to shift from a(n) __________ new behaviour to a habit.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Long ago, there was a big apple tree. A little boy loved to come and play around it every day. He climbed to the top of the tree, ate the apples, and took a nap under the shadow. He loved the tree and the tree also enjoyed playing with him.
As time went by, the little boy grew up and he no longer played around the tree.
One day, the boy came back to the tree, appearing sad. “Come and play with me,” the tree asked the boy gently.
“I am no longer a kid; I won’t play around trees any more,” the boy replied. “I want toys. I need money to buy them.”
“Sorry, but I don’t have money. However, you can pick all my apples and sell them. Then, you will have money.” The boy was so excited that he picked all the apples on the tree and left happily. The boy didn’t come back after that.
The tree was upset.
One day, the boy returned and the tree was so joyful. “Come and play with me,” the tree said.
“I don’t have time to play. I have to work for my family. We need a house for shelter. Can you help me?” “Sorry, I don’t have a house. But you can cut off my branches to build your house.” So the boy cut all the branches of the tree and left with delight.
The tree was glad to see him happy but the boy didn’t appear since then. The tree was again lonely and sad.
One hot summer day, the boy returned and the tree was delighted. “Come and play with me!” the tree requested.
“I am sad and becoming old. I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat?”“Use my trunk to build the boat. You can sail and be happy.” So the boy cut the tree trunk to make a boat. He went sailing and did not show up for a long time.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Many years later, the boy finally returned.
