26、Simple Health Habits Worth Adopting Into Your Life
We get it that it’s hard to break bad habits. But when it comes to building healthy habits, small decisions add up over time.
Use stairs. If you have stairs at your home or office, take them every chance you get. 【1】 For a strong cardio (有氧) workout, you can walk up and down the stairs repeatedly. Start with a limited number of repetitions and then increase them as you feel stronger.
Drink one extra glass of water a day. It’s nothing new that there are health benefits to drinking more water. 【2】 If plain water isn’t your favorite, you can add flavor to your water to help up your intake.
Correct your posture. When you were a kid, have your parents ever yelled at you for having bad posture? Well, the bad news is that they were right. 【3】 Not only that, but good posture prevents backache. You can try to leave yourself a note to sit up straight until it becomes an unconscious habit. Walking with your shoulders back and head held high can also make you feel good about yourself.
【4】 Solid sleep doesn’t just give you more energy, it can also help with healthy eating goals. If you have difficulty falling asleep, try to head to bed thirty minutes earlier than your usual time. Wind down with a book. You’ll be falling asleep in no time.
Remember that building new healthy habits can take some time and it’s OK to treat yourself to avoid feeling deprived (剥夺). Stay focused on your goal. 【5】
A.Don’t stop there, though.
B.Change your bad sleep habits.
C.Go to bed half an hour earlier.
D.Having good posture can reduce stress.
E.If you slip along the way, just start again.
F.But we ignored their warning to correct bad posture.
G.It helps keep your temperature normal and gets rid of wastes.

28、I didn’t sleep well for several days, worrying about the wildfires in several parts of Chongqing. Chongqing had witnessed several forest wildfires this summer due to the worst heat wave and drought since 1961, when such statistics were first recorded.
Like most people from Chongqing, I felt I must do something to help stop the fires spreading. Although forest firefighting forces from three provinces arrived to help, the local government called for volunteers and disaster relief materials for different fire scenes around the city.
Thousands of people from all walks of life quickly responded to the call. Many delivered various materials needed for fire rescue work, such as bottled water, food, fire extinguishers, helmets, lights, chainsaws and medical supplies. Hundreds of people with related skills and experience signed up as volunteers.
Facing challenging weather and mountainous terrain, young men felled trees and helped put the fires out. Women organized supplies, while motorcyclists transported firefighters and materials on newly formed unpaved mountain paths that were used as fire barriers.
I cannot ride a motorcycle, and do not have any medical skills. I decided to do everything I could for the hard-working volunteers, which included taking them cold fruit tea. When I arrived at an assembly (集合) point at the foot of Jinyun Mountain at noon, hundreds of volunteers wearing yellow vests and helmets, with towels soaked in cold water on their necks, were waiting for orders.
I met one of my friends, who had been working day and night to cut down trees to make fire barriers. He was told to go home to take a rest the next morning, but he returned to the assembly point in the afternoon after having a brief lunch. “I cannot sit at home and watch the fire approaching our man-made barrier,” he said.

29、When Alexander Tsao was climbing the walls at a gym near his home in Redmond, Washington, he noticed that the ropes were frequently replaced with new ones. Tsao wondered what happened to the old ropes. He asked the gym owners and found out they had to be thrown away regularly due to safety rules. He was surprised to find that so many ropes were sent to landfills.
“This discovery made me want to find a solution to the environmental issue of climbing rope waste,” Tsao tells. He thought of possible ways to recycle the ropes. Then he decided to turn them into leashes for dogs and donate the profits to local animal rescue groups.
Once he set his plan, Tsao contacted all the climbing gyms in Washington State, telling his idea of recycling old climbing ropes. Some were doubtful at first, but after Tsao’s explanation they agreed to donate. Then Tsao and his volunteers would regularly go to gyms to collect used ropes.
There were months of testing and designing his products and preparing documents to become a nonprofit organization called Rocks 2 Dogs. “When I started my nonprofit business, people hadn’t fully caught on to what I was doing. They seldom paid attention to it. But eventually by using social media to promote my product and making connections in my community, I was able to gain attention for Rocks 2 Dogs,” Tsao says. “Now, I receive many positive responses. I am grateful that people are so supportive of my business.”
“We have made and sold over a thousand leashes, which add up to over 10,000 feet of rope saved from landfills,” says Tsao. To date, the organization has raised more than $35,000. Much of the money has been donated to animal shelters. Tsao was interviewed by three local newspapers. The Washington Post featured him in a story. All that attention increased orders. Since then, he has had clients from 41 states. This fall, he plans to attend McGill University. He says, “I hope to continue Rocks 2 Dogs with the help and support of my family, friends, and the greater community.”

32、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Grandma called me in from the yard. “Would you please go to the store for me? I’m ready to bake rolls, and there isn’t enough yeast(酵母). Take a quarter from my little change purse.”
I found Grandma’s purse and put the quarter in my pocket. I was soon in the little general store that served our farming community.
“Mr.Jenkins,”I said,“Grandma needs some yeast.”
Mr.Jenkins set three cakes of yeast on the counter(柜台). His eyes twinkled(眨眼), and he smiled at me. “And what do you need?”
Í knew what he meant. I was always allowed to pick a cent’s candy when I came to the store with Grandma. But Grandma wasn’t here, and she hadn’t said anything about spending a penny.
“How much change do I have from a quarter?” I asked.
“Four cents,” Mr. Jenkins replied. “The yeast is seven cents a cake.”
I thought that over quickly. I would have four cents back. I was sure Grandma wouldn’t care if l spent one cent, and if she were here, she might even say I could have them all. The longer I looked at the candy, the more certain I became that I needed one cent’s worth as a reward for coming to the store alone.
As Mr.Jenkins handed me the candy and three cents, a voice inside me said this was not a really honest thing to do. That wasn’t my money, and I hadn’t asked if I might spend it.However, I put the cents in my pocket and started home, running past Uncle Roy, who was heading in the direction of my home.
“Thank you,” Grandma said when I laid the yeast on the table. “Did you put the change back in my purse?”
“Yes, Grandma,” I replied, hurrying out to the passage(走廊), I hadn’t really lied to Grandma.I argued with myself. I did put back all the change I had.
